Ride the WAVE with me

Hey all,

My hair was a beautiful 3B my teen and college years. After issues with hormones and kids I have only wave left. It is frustrating not knowing how to style your hair anymore. My hair is now 2B, 2C would be an excellent day.

I plan to have a no-buy for makeup for one year (started Nov 2018) and focus on finding the right hair products. I want to take the process gradually and give things time.

I started using Devacurl in Spring 2018. I had low-poo, one condition, and arc angel gel. My hair looked and felt like straw and was not getting any curl back so I stopped using all three products.

In October I chopped off a lot of hair for donation and hoped to get some bounce back. The stylist (Deva certified) recommended no-poo, one condition, coconut styling cream, and b-leave in gel. The routine was okay but I wanted more out of my hair.

Over the past week I changed my styling product to arc angel gel. I know, I know, the stylist and others have already said it was too heavy for my hair. I just wanted to experiment and find what product caused my hair to turn to straw in the spring. Arc angel seems to be in the clear. But since it isn't helping with any curl, I will pass it on to my 3C/4A mom.

I plan to resume the last routine and see how it goes or if it still seems lackluster. My one condition is almost out but I have a one condition delight. I want to see how my hair reacts to this.

I also have samples of Decadence. I believe it will likely be too heavy but it is time to find what works and what doesn't.

So here begins my hair journey. Hoping to either learn to ride the waves or return to curl.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

Aww thank you @Titian06! Praying to the curl gods for a good hair day when we do our annual pictures for the boys' birthday.

RE: Ride the WAVE with me

We’ve hit the sweet spot length-wise, so I scheduled a cut in two weeks 😁 Embracing the summer humidity and fuzz instead of fighting it! Moroccanoil S&C, Davines curl cream, Ouidad gel, 10 minutes of plopping and air-drying the rest of the way.

Gorgeous, @tastelikewater!

Re: RE: Ride the WAVE with me

Your waves look so nice @tastelikewater and I agree that this length looks great on you!

Re: RE: Ride the WAVE with me

Your hair looks good, @tastelikewater !  The waves are so pretty.  The length is great!  In fact, it's the same length as mine.  I was thinking late last week it might be time for an appointment.  Like you, it's finally at the right length.

Re: RE: Ride the WAVE with me

Your hair looks so pretty @tastelikewater. The photos are so flattering.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

I just got my haircut today. I do not have damage but I do have a lot of hair which was overwhelming o my petite frame. I got a root touch up and Olaplex 1 and a separate Olaplex 2 treatment. My stylist referred to it as a preventative measure. I received a 3 ounce bottle of Olaplex 3 as a take home gift from my salon.
Since the DevaCurl controversy, my salon is no longer using DevaCurl products. My salon now is using AG Hair products. She showed me once again the method that was taught to them by AG Hair and I have to admit that I like the results better . If you look at the curls , they are bouncy and not much product was used to achieve the results.
Sorry about the the Nudestix photo. I am not sure how to delete it.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

Your hair looks fantastic, @Loretta55! I'll look up the AG products. My hair never got along with DevaCurl products.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

Thank you very much @curlychiquita.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

@Loretta55 Your hair looks great!  And what is the AG method?  Is it a set of products or a styling method?

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

My salon now will not use DevaCurl products unless they are requested @greeneyedgirl107. AG Hair is a product line of hair products. They are sold at Ulta. AG Hair provided education to the stylists at my salon but it is going to require a lot of practice to get my hair to look as good as what it did in the photo.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

@Loretta55 Best of luck to you!  🙂

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

I just hope that I find the patience to do the technique properly @greeneyedgirl107 . You have to work with small sections of hair and like you I have a lot of hair.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

@Loretta55 It really is astounding how much work curly hair can take just to have it look good in its natural state!

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

Looking gorgeous @Loretta55 ! And so long!

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

Thank you very much @tastelikewater.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

@Loretta55   Your hair is beautiful!  I'm playing around with the products I have trying to make my curls less frizzy.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

Thank you very much @Ispend2much6. Hopefully the professional Olaplex treatments will help with the frizz.

Re: Ride the WAVE with me

Very nice @Loretta55! Are you using the AG products at home too?
