Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

Which do you prefer?   Or do you use something else?   Looking to perfect my foundation!

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

Definitely depends on the foundation for me. Most of the time beauty blender wins, but certain foundations, like fenty, gotta use a brush.

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

I use a BB with the Marc Jacobs Beauty Marvelous Mousse. This foundation goes on pretty full coverage for me but I only need a little bit on my sponge to pat on my face. I am 37 and I often get cakey concealer or foundation underneath the eyes. By not putting so much product on my face and I feel can apply the foundation to a smoother finish with the B.B. I do always buff out my foundation and face afterwards.

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

Hmm, I'm officially on the hunt for a new foundation (Genius Gel just discontinued) and it would be nice to keep things in the MJ fam so I might give this a spin. Thanks @Qteepiec

Mini BB for concealer; fingers and/or a PRO #55 brush for foundation (depending on the formula).

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

I use my fingers for all my foundations (I’ve actually never used a full sized beauty blender, only the mini that came with my Play box). My fingers do well with my thicker and thinner formulas and I feel like I waste minimal product and have more control.

RE: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

To be honest, I enjoy using both. I’ll use my brush for the initial coverage, and then if there are streaks I’ll just blend it out with the beauty blender

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

Hi @JoyV!  I echo what others have said.  It depends on the foundation and the type of coverage you're looking for.  I've found that I prefer using my fingers for most foundations, but some don't look good that way.  Instead a foundation brush works best for those or sometimes a stipling brush.  I think more liquid foundations probably work best with a damp sponge.  Another thing to consider is your skin type.  I have sensitive oily skin with noticeable pores on my nose/cheek area and find that using a sponge doesn't work for my skin.  I'm better off using my fingers and/or a brush.

As an example, I use IT CC Cream and found that with my fingers this looks terrible so does using a sponge.  But it looks great with a dense foundation brush.

I suggest playing around with all 3 techniques to see what works best for you.  I hope you find this helpful!

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

I mist a flat top kabuki brush with witch hazel and stipple to apply liquid or stick foundation, then tap it in with the beauty blender to finish. Great technique for building coverage in certain areas but maintaining evenness.

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

I think it depends on your foundation. I have a blender that I used with my previous foundation , but I use a brush more for my current foundation. It doesnt get streaky and I just use light circular motions and it looks good. When I use my blender for I seems to need more product and get less coverage.

RE: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

Depends on the foundation. I’ve always preferred sponges, than evolved to the Beauty Blender. And most foundations do really well with it, particularly thicker full coverage foundation and creamy-gel consistencies. But some foundations (I.e watery ones with high pigment loads) get like 90% sucked in and that’s like a huge waste of foundation, of which my second favourite way of application is my fingers. You can really work and warm up the foundation into the skin with little to no waste. My least favourite is brushes because I have dry skin and it just aggravates dry patches = cakey. With brushes, I feel like the foundation just sits on top of my skin.

Re: RE: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

Interesting, I've found the opposite: thicker foundations do worse with the beauty blender.  In general, I prefer the beauty blender to a brush, because a brush will leave brush marks whereas the beauty blender truly blends everything in flawlessly.  But if the foundation is thick enough, then I've found that: (1) If I try to use a beauty blender on it, the foundation just stays in a clump and doesn't spread out properly, and (2) It doesn't show brush marks the way a thinner foundation would.  But I still think beauty blenders leave the most flawless finish, so sometimes I'll use a brush to spread the foundation but then still use a beauty blender at the very end to pick up any excess.

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

I use this brush, Sephora Pro Airbrush #53 and it is absolutely awesome! Quick and looks better than when using a BB.

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

It depends on the foundation. I use my fingers for the NARS All Day Luminous foundation and Bobbi Brown Skin foundation stick. Bare Minerals Bare Pro is best applied with a flat top brush.

Re: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

I use the smashbox foundation and my beauty blender Bc the brushes always leave lines when I use them 😕

RE: Foundation Brush or BeautyBlender?

I use either my Artis Oval 7 or the foundation brush head for my Clarisonic. Both give such amazing applications. I only use my BB for concealer and pressing in my setting powder.

Both! A good makeup brush can help with initial application and smoothness while the beautyblender at the end takes off any excess product and blends concealer.
