New to skin care

Hi, i am in my teenage years and have been breaking out a lot recently and i’m in desperate need of help to make a skincare routine. My family has very dry skin where i have combination type skin, i am hoping that some one can help me start my skincare journey.😊

Re: New to skin care

I also have combination skin very different from my mom’s dry skin. When i was a teen i got two helpful products recommended.

One was a light moisturizer with some SPF (olay daily moisturizer for sensitive skin). Unfortunately i don’t know a similar sephora product, but it’s at every drug store. Alternatively look into separate SPF that won’t break you out like Glossier Invisible Shield Water-Gel Transparent Face Sunscreen SPF 35 1 oz / 30 mL for something non greasy or Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 for something mattifying. For a moisturizer that also won’t cause breakouts maybe Youth To The People Superfood Air-Whip Lightweight Face Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid 2 oz / 59 mL or belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb Hydrating Moisturizer With Squalane .84 oz / 25 mL .

Second was exfoliating face wash. When younger i went much heavier on physical exfoliants. Overall in my experience salicylic acid is the easiest chemical ingredient to find that works and probably won’t burn. CLINIQUE Exfoliating Face Scrub 3.4 oz/ 100 mL  is a good one with both scrubbing and salicylic acid and bonus menthol that makes my skin feel great. Id say don’t use this more than every other day. Use a more gentle cleanser in between.

Re: New to skin care

Hey girl, I got you in this one! There are a couple of options for you in all types of ranges for price! One really good bundle to grab is the Skinfix acne away kit! Those products are a life saver and good trial size for $35! I also love Dermlogicas acne clearing skin wash cleanser for $42! Last but not least, just putting any salicylic acid serum (like the Ordinary!) works well into routines! Hope it helps! 🌷

The INKEY List Back to Basics: Goodbye Acne Skincare Set

Hi @ClarBarVecc The Inkey List and The Ordinary are very stand up brands that don't cost an arm and a leg. They each have sets that contain an entire acne fighting routine, though The Ordinary's one might not be available through Sephora, I can't seem to be able to tag it.

There's alot of great advice here, I hope you can find something that works for you and your skin 💜

Re: New to skin care

@ClarBarVecc what's your current routine?

Start with a gentle liquid cleanser like First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser .

BHA is excellent for breakouts.  I only rec Paula's Choice.  Sephora sells the popular 2%...I'm unable to tag it.  It also comes in 1, 4 and 9%.  For a spot treatment,  I recommend Clean & Clear Persa-gel.  Target makes a knock off.  Clay masks are good for oily areas.  I love innisfree Volcanic AHA Pore Clearing Clay Mask 3.38 oz/ 100 mL .  Oil blotting sheets are good, too.  Target makes nice ones.

Start there.   Differin is available OTC, although I think the Rx is a better bet due to the stronger concentration.

If you are still having difficulty, ask an MD if you are a candidate for Retin-A.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Re: New to skin care

hii I think we have the same skin type. I recommend going in with micellar water first to remove any impurities. Then use a cleanser, I recommend The INKEY List SuperSolutions 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser Acne Solution 5 oz / 150 mL . Then use a toner and then a serum. You can add an exfoliant into your skincare routine 1-2 times a week if you have bad texture. Then finish it with moisturizer and for morning skincare add an spf after moisturizer.
