Summer Cheek Challenge 2025: A Song & A Slay

Sun's out, whether you're outside with easy breezy beach vibes, camp vibes, OOO vibes, staycation status..... Or all of the above, we're going to blush, bronze and highlight through it allllllllll.  So whether you're shopping your stash, tipping your temples into draping, or justifying your 10000000th blush, please join in. 

 

This time, I want YOUR SWATCH SONG. 
THAT'S right.  I want your songs of summer and your blush look.  And, I know you're gonna slay it.

But, danielledanielle that doesn't make any sense.  These are two separate things, like whyyyyy?  

Well, I'm at this point, you haven't figured out that I'm open for all interpretation, but okay okayyyy

For each challenge, I want a song that just gives you that summer vibe.  Bonus if you can give me a playlist and post to either BIC Playlist and/or 🎶✨Song of the Day and Music Thread!✨🎶 
Red and Ready\RED-dy (June 16-22): Juneteenth Week
(Read up on Juneteenth and why this is typically it's more of an independence day than independence day 😑)
But, embrace that red blush trend and give me a song that gets you RED-dy for the summer.  It can be a muted red as well, I.e., something with green tint/tone to it.

Staycation Radiostation (June 23-29): the vibe is, I'm home, and home is the best club.  What are we wearing, what are we listening to?

Highlight on the Horizon Hotlist (Jun 30-Jul 5): What is the song you'd connect with sunset blush?  Give me your tunes and your favorite blush + highlight combo. 

Bronzed Up Beats (July 6-12) Sun and fun, what's your favorite uptempo song and what's your current bronzer situation? Powder, creme, liquid...all the above?  Bonus if we're also using bronzer for contour.  (I'm not saying these are interchangeable.  But, yes, you can contour with bronzer, and for some undertones/overtones it works out much better 🙋🏽‍♀️💚🩶)

Camp Crescendo (July 13-19): Bonfire and a bop... What's the look for a day of glamping/camping? If you don't camp/glamp and glam, feel free to drop the skincare/SPF routine.

Top Tier Top 5 (July 20-26)
What are your favorites for cheek combos?  USE THEM this week.  This is my "use your pretty things" year and this is the week I'm doing it.  You trying to pan? GO.  You have a drawer of blushing spilling out? Go wild!  Give me your top five songs and top five cheek products.

Hotlight on the Horizon- 

It's catchy, it picks up at the right times.. Not to mention, if I'm locked out of heaven, I imagine I'd be staring at the horizon 

As for the blush, last year Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Trophy Wife was living it up, so I tried to challenge myself, too.

A lovely friend gifted me Valentino V-Lighter Illuminating Face Primer and Highlighter with Hyaluronic Acid Ambra which I've been meaning to play with.  It's very similar in texture and finish to DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster ! 🙌🏽

Been living and loving it with Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder Flushed - Matte Color for Cheek & Lip Creme B... for the last three days

@danielledanielle I swear sometimes I just get bad luck, for two weeks I had  double ear infections and my left ear drum burst 😫 I've never had issues with my ears,  it was the worst consistent pain.  I'm just now getting the hearing back normally without the popping

First, my inspo going into this look: Debbie Harry of Blondie with coral and peachy tones in a gold suit:

Why Debbie? First, she's a platinum blonde like me so...easy pick as coloring twins. But also because she's known for strong blush looks. And, of course, songs like "Heart of Glass" or "The Tide is High" read 'hot summer nights' to me (and I associate sunset blush with hot summer nights and dancing in general, beachside or not).

My other challenge here was that I'm used to doing dewy looks for sunset blush and I wanted to do something far more matte using powders only and no cream or liquid blushes to branch out of my comfort zone. Here's the result:

I used @danielledanielle 's cue and contoured with bronzer rather than contour using Gucci Sun-Kissed Glow Powder Bronzer 01 .

And then I kind of went kitchen sink with my coral and cream blushes using HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Color Fuse Talc-Free Blush Powder With Fermented Arnica Pomelo Peach , Gucci Luminous Matte Powder Blush in Radient Pink and Bright Coral and then blending my contour with Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Blurring Natural Glow Powder Blush 61 Desire .

I also draped the Gucci Luminous Matte Powder Blush 04 Bright Coral up into the crease of my eyelid. Other than that, I used Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Face Architect Highlighter Champagne Glow for my inner eyes. I also blended it with #Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder from a bit lower on the apples of my cheeks to above my outer cheek bones.

This was, of course, a cheek challenge but ultimately the lips were the most fun for me. I lined with MAKEUP BY MARIO Ultra Suede® Sculpting Lip Pencil Dmitry. Topped with Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Fenty Glow . And then brought in some NARS Precision Lip Liner Mariachi and blended it in from the edges. The result reminds me of the maraschino cherry I would definitely have in my drink if I were out for a night with this blush.

I'd like to try it again with fewer blushes as it got a bit muddled but I've been going more matte so this was super fun 🙂

@PDXXXX  Yes for inspo based on Debbie Harry. Her cheek looks were gorgeous.  I enjoy the music that came out of CBGB!  Debbie, Patti Smith and Talking Heads especially.  You did a bang up job on the use of these blushes 😍 .  Gorgeous!

Ooh, I love this @PDXXXX .  I get that muddled complaint in practice but it doesn't come off that way.  You likely can do it with another combo, but  I was definitely on IG when I heard a MUA layers and when you're done, you are wearing 17 blushes.  I also feel like bespoke things just hold better because you are layering them into each other. 

R/T IG...think it was Aditya and yes, I associate your forever with Debbie.
