Subtle Highlighters for Tan/NC42 Skin?

Hey lovelies, I've never really used a highlighter except for my Hourglass Ambient powder on my cheekbones. I don't personally like the coloured/mirror/rainbow/in your face highlighter, but I am liking the 'I just had a facial and this glow is just how my sexy skin looks' look.

Any recommendations on brands and types to try? My cheeks especially as winter has kicked in is on the drier side so shall I look for powder or creme or it doesn't really matter? I'm just looking for a single shade, no palettes as I know I'll never get close to using it. Drugstore and Sephora recommendation welcome.

I'm tagging @darlyndar because I know we have similar skin-tones but all recommendations welcome!

If you want a cream one, try RMS beauty. It just gives your skin a nice glow and it's not sticky, or Glossier Haloscope. Powder-wise, Hourglass has Strobe powders which are still very natural looking. Essence Pure Nude highlight is very natural as well. Hope this helps!

@Aaliaa Perfect choice with the Hourglass! I have a huge crush on everything Hourglass. Their bronzer and lighting powder are my Holy Grails! I think the Too Faced Highlighter would be everything you want. It’s cream to powder so it won’t settle into dry skin and  it also has a very subtle glow. Next time you’re in store, try it out! And girl...with our skin tone, you would OWN this!!! ❤️❤️❤️B862FEBE-32B5-4CCC-A00B-0DC9295BEE0A.jpeg

Thanks @darlyndar! This looks like the colour I'm looking for, thanks for attaching a photo and everything! Do you use the Hourglass ambient powders as highlighters too?

I'm like you, I am living for the Hourglass Bronzer in Radiant Light Bronze. I got it during the VIB Rouge sale, and wear it most days. Its subtle enough that I even use it when I'm not wearing foundation to add some colour and as my crease colour.

Re: Subtle Highlighters for Tan/NC42 Skin?

@Aaliaa I don’t use it as a highlighter. I actually use the lighting powder in radiant light under my eyes! I conceal and set, then I apply it over that. It just makes my undereyes look so healthy and gives a gorgeous glow. Have you tried the strobing powder? That would also be an amazing highlighter. I use that when I’m not wearing any makeup at all. That and the bronzer just like you do. It’s the most beautiful finish.

Oh I love the idea of using it after setting my concealer! I'm going to try that tomorrow. Thanks @darlyndar

Re: Subtle Highlighters for Tan/NC42 Skin?

@Aaliaa LIFE CHANGING!!! Please let me know how you like it. I think you’ll be hooked!

Re: Subtle Highlighters for Tan/NC42 Skin?

Finally went in and tried out the highlighter and its exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the recommendation @darlyndar!! With the ambient lighting powder under my eyes I'm all set for my holiday glow!!

Edit: Do you have a specific technique/brush you use with this highlighter given its consistency?
