Mothership VI Eyeshadow Palette - Midnight Sun
@veronika23 your posts have been super helpful! I was able to swatch the Pat Mcgrath in store, and while I really like the feeling of these - the silver is definitely, definitely patchy. I'm still not completely sold and my kit remains unopened...and it sounds like you are having an easier/better time with the MAC pigments!
Thanks 🙂 Yes so far it seems the MAC pigments are easier to use with the liquid... but being loose pigment it gets messy... Still debating if it was worth the money... my other pigments haven't even shipped yet 😕
I think it all depends on what you want out of a metallic finish... Is it something you will use a lot? Will you use it for different applications? Will you use the pigments or creams by themselves... If you only want to have something metallic once in a while you might be better off with ND shadow or a loose pigment from MAC...
@veronika23 I quickly realised if PM has used Mehron liquid in 005, then maybe the pigment too from the brand for 004. I looked up swatches of Mehron metallic pigment in gold and I think they could be dead on dupes just like the 004 glitters with Lit costmetics. What do you think?
Mehron is under $10 with 1oz of product 😄
@Anewxathese do look close! Closer than what I saw when I quickly looks this morning. I bought mine from Camera Ready cosmetics. They have 20% off right now with code BLKFRI20. They are in the US so the liquid wouldn't ship here but the pigments do and shipping was like 5.99!!!! YES! I didn't get the gold from them so I wouldn't be able to compare that one... Hoping to find a store in my city that will sell the liquid... usually a costume or theatre makeup supply type store.
Oh thanks for the reminder on the code!
studiofx dot ca ships from Vancouver @veronika23 @Anewxa and they carry Mehron. I have ordered Ben Nye from them before and everything was packed well and came quickly enough 😃 The metallic powders are 15 dollars and so is the liquid for 133 ml
Thanks @jesscheems couldn't remember the name of the shop I saw them at in Canada. 🙂 They didn't have everything I wanted so I bought from Camera Ready.
No probsss!!! 😄 ❤️
By some shocking surprise, I got a shipping notice around 4:30, and the mailman dropped it off about 20 minutes ago (I guess when same day works, it actually is fast)
here are my swatches of the everything kit. The very first swipe in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th photos is the original Gold001, which is the same as the gold in this kit. After that, all swatches are powder, cream, then powder layered over cream
Thank you for these swatches. I am really loving the gold now!
So glad you got your order!
Lovely swatches. I'm so glad I bought the everything kit.
Very helpful swatches ! Silver cream shade looks very nice and not very silvery silver.
@fatimamummy the silver (on me) is more white than grey which I'm totally ok with since that makes it a silver I'd actually wear 😂
Thank you @Mochapj!! Beautiful photos! Now im torn on whether to get silver or gold. Im so mad I didnt get the entire kit.
Anyone who got the 005 in gold and also owns one of the 004 kits, Can you swatch gold pigment from both these kits after mixing in Mehron liquid from 005?
I am trying to get a better sense of gold shade in 005 before pulling the trigger. Please and Thank you 🙂
Off the top of my head @fatimamummy I think gold in 004 looks closer to the creme 005, but I can also check tomorrow.
I can try and do that tomorrow. I can tell you that the 004 pigment is deeper old gold brass compared to 005 which is way more yellow.
I think you are right based on the swatches so far. 005 looks like a more vivid yellow gold.
Excuse the mess...
I’ll probably post a longer post later but just wanted to give a few quick thoughts.
The sequins thing is kinda getting annoying lol. I had some everywhere including inside my pigments and creams... anyway
Ok so I pulled a few things from my collection to compare the metallic... I was also checking a few things out online and found that Mehron the company that makes the liquid makes metallic pigments. They are a loose pigment and cheaper in price. I did order a few (not here yet) but I’m curious to see how they compare. MAC also makes metallics but they can only be bought at a pro store or online.
So I have a MAC silver pigment that is pretty old but MAC still makes it. Not sure if it’s the exact same color as the one I have but it’s still silver. I also have a Natasha Denona shadow called 04M Chromatic. So I'll use those to compare.
Pat’s silver pigment is very gritty to the touch… it’s kinda patchy when swatched. The cream is super soft and it’s a deeper gunmetal type silver. I know someone mentioned that already. It does change the look of the silver pigment when mixed together. I find that the pigment + cream has the same metallic finish as the ND shadow.
Top-Bottom:PM silver pigment, ND chromatic, MAC Silver pigment
Top-Bottom: PM silver pigment, PM silver cream, PM silver pigment + cream
Top-Bottom: PM silver pigment + Mehron liquid, MAC silver pigment + Mehron, ND Chromatic + Mehron
If you want a no hassle high metallic silver you might be better off with Natasha Denona’s 04M Chromatic. If you like pigments and want a metallic liquid effect MAC silver pigment with either MAC fix + or the Mehron liquid can do the trick as well. For any loose pigments I suggest getting a little tool to scoop it out. I have MAC spatula and works well.
The other colors seem to swatch better. I compared the copper pigment to Suparpill's pumpkin spice eye shadow.. LE color released last year coming back in Dec. It's deeper and redder.
Top-Bottom: PM copper pigment, Sugarpill pumpkin spice
Top-Bottom: PM copper pigment + Mehron, Sugarpill Pumpkin Spice + Mehron
So I found in this case that the Mehron liquid helped the PM pigment but not so much the Sugarpill eye shadow. I don’t have it swatched in the pic but I also tried the sugarpill with MAC fix+. It’s a bit more metallic but not that much.
Overall I do like the kit.. and the Mehron really helps get that metallic punch. I’m not so much a fan of the silver pigment. I think I prefer ND’s eye shadow or MAC pigment. I’m also liking the creams a bit more than expected. They are very soft and seem to blend well using your finger.
