thinning hair

So I have been dealing with extremely thinning hair for the last few years, I probably have 1/3 of the hair I used to have. I know why I'm going through this (stress alopecia and polysystic ovary syndrome) but my doctor tells me that if I care for my hair properly I can help curb the loss. That hasn't happened so far and I was wondering if anyone has any product recommendations? I've got fine straight hair that I wash about every other day, any longer and it starts to fall, and I've tried Nioxin, Redkin and Alterna but they haven't really done much aside from make my hair feel like a rats nest. I'd really appreciate the help, thanks 🙂

I would def try Olaplex #3 once a week. It is not a conditioner, but it will repair damage areas, so you will loose less hair to breakage. Also the night before you wash your hair try rubbing organic castor oil on your scalp. It takes a few weeks, so don't give up on it too early.

Re: thinning hair

I like the Schwarzkopf Bonacure Time Restore Shampoo. It's really rich and super gentle on fragile hair, doesn't dry hair out, and is supposed to stimulate the roots. Also agree with @preeeee on the vitamins - but make sure they have biotin - which helps with hair growth/support. Nature's Bounty makes a pretty good hair/skin/nails supplement that you can get for less than $15.

Final note - be careful in putting your hair up, or in pulling it back. If you put your hair up too tightly, it can cause additional breakage and fallout.

Re: thinning hair

I noticed my hair doing the same thing and started taking vitamins, Vitafusion gummies for women and I noticed a difference.

Re: thinning hair

Hi @SteffiNicole I can explain a bit about Nioxin and a brand called Bosley. I have 20+ years in the hair industry. They DO work.

Re: thinning hair

@SteffiNicole Okay, sorry it took a while. Redken and Alterna won't help you with what you're going through. While they both have shampoos/systems for thin hair, they are not for thinning hair. They temporarily plump existing hair to give it a fuller effect until the next wash. So, lets shelf those.

Nioxin aims at making the scalp the healthiest enviorment possible by removing/blocking DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) in an effort to let your hair follicles strengthen and grow. It's a 3 part system and is only effective when all 3 steps are used. It is successful in about 60% of people who try it.

Bosley on the other hand is also a 3 part system. Once you start Bosley treatment it is important you understand that you cant stop. Success is about 80%. Bosley uses Minoxodil in all steps of their products. Minoxodil is the only ingredient in the world proven to regrow hair. There are downsides however; as mentioned above, if you stop using it all results achieved will be lost meaning the hair grown will shed and fall out. It becomes dependent on Minoxodil. Most people are fine with that.

Hope this helps.

@eueu03

Bosley is available at Ulta among other retailers. Alternatively, you can also get Rogaine (another brand with Minoxidil) at most any pharmacy, WalMart, etc.
