in between hair help-- I'm getting a cut Sat but my in between hair is making me crazy!

My stylist and I have been trying to grow my hair out a little (not a lot...I'm a short haired gal and happy to be!)..I'm going to the salon on Sat, but (especially as a hair-obsessed product junkie!) I would love your tips for styling short hair (somewhat fine, a lot of it, sort of thick just due to the extra weight with the growth); it's somewhat assymetrical and the longest layers reach the middle of my neck.

Any great tips to hold me over?

A good hat will do wonders. or a scarf. When my bangs are growing out I use little barrettes or bobby pins. Since I am answering this question on a Sunday, I hope you had a great haircut!
