from blond to black (or really dark!)

Hi everyone,

I'm considering going from blond (medium/light) to a very dark brown or (as suggested by my hubby) black. I have fair skin and deep blue almost gray eyes. my natural color is dark blond/light brown ish color. Going this dark makes me nervous I've been blond most of my life besides a few attempts at red (faded so  fast) and some medium brown. The problem I have is my color tends to fade sooo quickly with anything much darker then my natural. Any tips on keeping it darker longer? i cant afford to dye it very often. Twice a year tops (kids and mortgage takes precedence. lol) My hair is also very fine and straight. I plan to avoid using hot tools on it as much as I can. Tips for your favorite shampoos and products to keep it looking good? Any home mask recipes or anything like that? Also any tips on getting some more volume in my fine flat hair would be great haha (it gets very oily quickly my skin and hair both, witch makes going in between washes very difficult)

Definitely use a color treated shampoo. My favorite is Pureology, but there are many that are good. Has the color you have put in your hair in the past been semi-permanent? Cold washing your hair is great for color retention, also. The black dye will probably not fade lol. And just keep in mind that to go from black back to blonde is quite a journey, to put it lightly. I am sure it will look beautiful with your complexion and eye color! As far as the fine hair goes, when you curl your hair you should put some root powder, or powdered dry shampoo in your hair. I used to buy some at the drugstore and it was made by the same brand that makes that 'Big Sexy Hair' product. That stuff sprinkled on your roots and teased will for sure give you volume.

Thank you for the tips 🙂 for the hair color i think it was a demi color perhaps? i do want to make sure it lasts so i assumed i should ask for permanent this time around?
