Suggestions for dry scalp and split ends

I have tried EVERYTHING from apple cider washes to castor oil masks, my dry scalp is so persistent. I have fine natural wavy/straight hair which I normally don't really style but dry with blow-drier after washing my hair every other day (I JUST started using the blow-drier like a month ago). To top my dry scalp condition I suffer from split ends which prevents my hair from growing as long as I would love to have it because I have to trim it every 2 months. If I don't trim it the ends look super dry and badly split. Does anybody have any suggestions? I currently use drugstore shampoo which I know (shame on me) but I really don't know what works for my hair and I don't want to spend so much money on a shampoo that might not even work for me. As a matter of fact the shampoo I use is not too bad on my hair but I don't know if that is the reason why I have dry scalp and split ends. Please help!

Re: Suggestions for dry scalp and split ends

Hi Stefaneezee.  I have dry hair as well.  It sounds like you are washing your hair too much. You mentioned you wash it every other day. That will definitely cause a dry scalp. If your scalp and hair are dry, you don't need to wash your hair everyday. I would try only washing it twice a week. I know, it sounds gross, but trust me, it will really help. If you have to shower everyday, get a shower cap and cover your hair so it doesn't get wet.  And, I would stop blow drying. The split ends are caused by heat damage. If your aim is to grow out your hair, the best and most healthy way to do that is to get rid of the heat, especially if you have dry hair.  I was getting lots of split ends as well and wanted to grow my hair out. I finally decided to go all natural and embrace my 2b waves.  I am glad I did, my split ends are doing MUCH better.  I use shampoos that don't have sulfates and I use a daily oil called "Love Oil" that is light but moisturizing. You will also want to get a silk pillow case.  Cotton is absorbent so when you sleep on a cotton pillow case it is soaking out the moisture in you hair and skin.  Or you can get a silk sleeping cap. That is what I have, to protect my waves.  Hope this helps!

RE: Suggestions for dry scalp and split ends

Moroccan Oil is something that I've found works best for dry hair! I'm a hairstylist myself and I use the brand with all my clients! and even though I love to experiment with different products, I always end up going back to Moroccan Oil. They make a great damage repair and moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and the dry shampoo comes in lighter and darker tones too!
