Straight to Curls, and how to manage them.

Hi,

For all my life, I have had straight hair. Recently, I've been into curling my hair, and I want to know how to comb through my hair, and yet keep the structure of my curls in tact. I've been just using my fingers to put half my hair up, and half of it down. I want to know how to do this with what kind of brush to make sure my curls stay intact.

Instead of using a brush, try using a wide-toothed comb or pick.  Here's an example showing the Sephora Collection Wide Tooth Comb - http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P35088&categoryId=C10451&shouldPaginate=true.  It looks like this: 

This is one that Sephora carries, but there are other styles, for instance, that have a handle to hold onto to make it a little easier to comb through your hair.  I got mine at Ulta.
