Hi there, yes but it has definitely evolved and going to the right hairstylist really makes a huge difference when it comes to how the end result looks.  You definitely don't want to look like your hair was just dipped in hair color.  It really should just be a soft gradience of color from dark to light.

Yes. 

My daughter gets ombre balayage where our hairdresser does gradient blonde toward the bottom of her hair and I've seen it with other fun colors (her school requires "natural" hair color so she can't get too crazy).
