Growing out a short spiked cut...

Okay, because of COVID, I am involuntarily growing out what WAS a very cool NYC spike-out haircut (shorter on sides, longer on top, spiked).  I USED to use a huge array of waxes/etc to keep the spikes up.  Now, it's growing out.  I am trying to slick it down and back in order to keep my hair off of my face.  So far, I've found that salt sprays and VERB Sea Texture Cream seem to work...sort of.  I actually had to buy a hairbrush for the first time in 20 years also.  Here's the issue:  My hair is ULTRA fine and stick straight.  No matter what product I apply, once it dries and I brush it back, there are always some hairs that are flying around in the breeze.  I do have some cool cloth hairbands but they're kind of hot to wear in the summer.  Also, I am considered an essential worker and have to go into my office a few days a week, and I am getting really self conscious about my hair and my growout.  Yes, they just opened up Phase II in NYC but my hairdresser literally left the country for a few months...sigh.  So...yeah.  Best smoother to keep my  hair where I put it without making a hair helmet out of spray, which won't last anyway?  Again, hair is superfine, prone to oily, stick straight, and not colored.  I wash it every day because otherwise it sticks up all over the place and gets greasy.  No shampoo for me, I just use Doc Bronners.  Thanks!
