Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

Good hair days are on the horizon! If you want to know how I gave myself an at-home Drybar blowout in 25 minutes I suggest you continue reading, but be warned... Some serious enabling may take place in this post.

In case you haven’t been stalking their Instagram like me, you may not know that Drybar is launching a new styling tool which is both a hybrid of their existing tools, yet at the same time, unlike else anything they currently offer. This all-in-one is appropriately named the Double Shot Blow-Dry Brush and we were lucky enough to be among some of the first beauty lovers to take this baby for a spin!

If you are a blow-drying pro, kiss your tedious, dual-handed blow-drying technique buh-baiii! My “old school” blow-dry routine makes me feel like those miserable humans you see in infomercials: grabbing a piece of hair, then my brush, then my blow-dryer, drying my hair, setting everything down, switching my blow-dryer off to grab another piece of hair, then it falls on the ground right onto my toe... struggle city! I also get a lot of pain in my arms from the laborious and repetitive motion – that's a story for another day. I was weary about whether this tool would live up to my expectations, but after just one use I am happy to say this is definitely a gamechanger for my blowout routine!

This blow-dryer brush is exactly what is sounds like – a blow-dryer and styling brush wrapped into one! Because you don’t have to hold a separate brush and your blow-dryer, this combo gives you a free hand so you’re able to tightly grab and guide each section of hair as you go. I sectioned my wet hair into about eight sections and tightly wound them with styling clips, then went in with the Double Shot, working my way up from my roots. Pro tip: Once you have a section of hair and you position the Double Shot at your roots, hold it there for at least 10-20 seconds and let that air flow. This technique will give allow your wet roots time to dry so you aren’t going over each strand dozens of times. Going slow is what helped my hair from getting frizzy so patience is a virtue! Another pro tip: Use DRYBAR Jump Start Quick Dry Blowout Serum to reduce styling time and protect your strands from heat.

I will let the photos speak for themselves – I am obsessed with these results and don’t want to live without this tool in my beauty arsenal. I will say that my 20 years of experience blow-drying my hair has helped me immensely, but my technique was getting rusty. As a rookie to using this tool, I impressed myself with these results and am 1000000% purchasing the Double Shot once it’s available. With more practice I am hoping to master my technique so I can achieve that just-walked-out-of-Drybar blowout lewk all on my own. Will keep you all updated on my progress on this thread 🙂

Full disclosure – we're still figuring out the exact day this will be available. The product page will go up this Tuesday, 11/19, and you can sign up for email notifications to be notified once it’s in stock. Of course, we will also update this thread once we have the date finalized.

In case you have thicker hair, my teammates also tried this tool and will jump in with their thoughts and tips. @GeorginaBT has thick, shoulder-length hair she likes to wear stick straight. @AlexBT has thick hair that’s wavy/curly. @BrendaBT has very thick, wavy hair.

Would you be up to trying the Double Shot? What’s the most life-changing styling tool you’ve ever used? Leave a reply and let us know!

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@gonerogue  pretty sure mine is John Frieda, I use the Shu Uemura paddle brush prior so I don’t notice much fallout. It works good enough, I just don’t have anything to compare it to and lately my hair has been looking a bit frizzier than when I first started using it. That and the filter keeps falling off while I’m using it which is super annoying🙄

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT I would definitely be up for trying a product like this.  My concern with these always comes down to the wattage, though.  I think the typical hairdryer is 1875 watts, and I've found these hot air brushes to often be lower than that which just doesn't work for my hair.

I also wonder about the bristles - I prefer them to be firm to help straighten my naturally wavy hair.

I would just love it if there was a hot air brush with 1875 watts, and if the brush was of the right quality (there could even be changeable brush heads for those that want/need different textures).  Maybe some company out there will read this...!

As for my most life-changing hair tool, it's gotta be my flat iron!  🙂

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@greeneyedgirl107 this has both nylon and tufted bristles - I would say it's like a paddle brush and a ceramic brush combined so great control as you go. I was surprised that my hair didn't tangle and was glad to see that the bristles also did a great job at gripping my hair - especially at my ends which are especially fine at the tips.

As far as the wattage, I am not sure the exact wattage but I wouldn't want it to be as powerful as a standard blow-dryer or my hair would probably go flying - sounds like a one-way trip to Frizz City 😄

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT Thanks for the info about the bristles!  Very helpful 🙂

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT Looks beautiful!

How long did it take you to do your hair with it?

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

Thank you @Cyncynn ! It took me 25 minutes to do my whole head of wet hair.

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT Thanks ❤️

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT @Your hair turned out great with the product.

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@SportyGirly125 thank you so much! I was very pleasantly surprised with my final results 🙂

RE: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT This looks very promising. My hair is super long, thick and has a bit of wave to it. I’ll be anxious to read @BrendaBT thoughts since she too has thick hair. Your hair BTW looks fantastic! My currentstyling tool is a GHD flat iron that I’ve had for forever. It’s traveledall around with me and has taken some nasty falls. Still works! I’d love to try the DRYBAR double shot. I’ve been trying new DRYBAR products since Alli Webb’s Masterclass at Sephoria.

Re: RE: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@bem564 You just described my hair! My hair is also long, super, duper thick, and has a wave to it and on top of it all I have soooo much hair for days! I loved this drybar tool, I usually struggle to blow-dry my hair while holding a round brush and a hair dryer but this tool made it so easy to use. I had to take smaller strands of hair because my hair is so thick and it took me around 45 minutes to finish which is really good timing for myself considering that I usually take a little over an hour with a blow dryer. 🙂

RE: Re: RE: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@BrendaBT Thank you for the update!! We have matching hair types! I was wondering how long it would take. 45 minutes is not bad. My hair takes the loooooongest to blow dry. I’m so interested in this release! Thank you!!

Re: RE: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@bem564 Brenda will definitely pop in with her tips and opinions! I love drybar tools and so many of their products - I wish I saw Alli's masterclass! I would love to get a how-to on achieving the perfect blowout! If you do try this let me know what you think!

And I love GDH as well! I had one of their flatirons for about 8 years and it eventually died on me and I think it's because I dropped it all the time 😞

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

Your hair looks amazing! @KatieBT
