Good hair days are on the horizon! If you want to know how I gave myself an at-home Drybar blowout in 25 minutes I suggest you continue reading, but be warned... Some serious enabling may take place in this post.
In case you haven’t been stalking their Instagram like me, you may not know that Drybar is launching a new styling tool which is both a hybrid of their existing tools, yet at the same time, unlike else anything they currently offer. This all-in-one is appropriately named the Double Shot Blow-Dry Brush and we were lucky enough to be among some of the first beauty lovers to take this baby for a spin!
If you are a blow-drying pro, kiss your tedious, dual-handed blow-drying technique buh-baiii! My “old school” blow-dry routine makes me feel like those miserable humans you see in infomercials: grabbing a piece of hair, then my brush, then my blow-dryer, drying my hair, setting everything down, switching my blow-dryer off to grab another piece of hair, then it falls on the ground right onto my toe... struggle city! I also get a lot of pain in my arms from the laborious and repetitive motion – that's a story for another day. I was weary about whether this tool would live up to my expectations, but after just one use I am happy to say this is definitely a gamechanger for my blowout routine!
This blow-dryer brush is exactly what is sounds like – a blow-dryer and styling brush wrapped into one! Because you don’t have to hold a separate brush and your blow-dryer, this combo gives you a free hand so you’re able to tightly grab and guide each section of hair as you go. I sectioned my wet hair into about eight sections and tightly wound them with styling clips, then went in with the Double Shot, working my way up from my roots. Pro tip: Once you have a section of hair and you position the Double Shot at your roots, hold it there for at least 10-20 seconds and let that air flow. This technique will give allow your wet roots time to dry so you aren’t going over each strand dozens of times. Going slow is what helped my hair from getting frizzy so patience is a virtue! Another pro tip: Use DRYBAR Jump Start Quick Dry Blowout Serum to reduce styling time and protect your strands from heat.
One more photo from a different angle in the spoiler:
I will let the photos speak for themselves – I am obsessed with these results and don’t want to live without this tool in my beauty arsenal. I will say that my 20 years of experience blow-drying my hair has helped me immensely, but my technique was getting rusty. As a rookie to using this tool, I impressed myself with these results and am 1000000% purchasing the Double Shot once it’s available. With more practice I am hoping to master my technique so I can achieve that just-walked-out-of-Drybar blowout lewk all on my own. Will keep you all updated on my progress on this thread 🙂
Full disclosure – we're still figuring out the exact day this will be available. The product page will go up this Tuesday, 11/19, and you can sign up for email notifications to be notified once it’s in stock. Of course, we will also update this thread once we have the date finalized.
In case you have thicker hair, my teammates also tried this tool and will jump in with their thoughts and tips. @GeorginaBT has thick, shoulder-length hair she likes to wear stick straight. @AlexBT has thick hair that’s wavy/curly. @BrendaBT has very thick, wavy hair.
Would you be up to trying the Double Shot? What’s the most life-changing styling tool you’ve ever used? Leave a reply and let us know!
OH EM GEE - I just tried the Drybar Double Shot blow dry brush this morning and wow! I am not kidding when I say that I had a new found confidence walking to work this morning.
First, I'll set up a couple things:
Here's what I loved about this:
Here are my Before pics. Before: pre-shower. This is 5 days no wash.
Before: post-shower.
Here are my During photos. Yes, I'm multi-tasking with my eye masks. Considering a full face sheet mask for next time.During 1
During 2
During 3
Afters!After 1
After 2
To say I was happy with this test is an understatement! I might have to buy it for myself for the holidays.
@CarolBT @Your hair looks amazing after using the product
@CarolBT Your hair looks amazing!! But also giiiiirl how does it look like that 5 days sans washing?? I wish I could go that long 😭
hahaha @cianni GALLONS of dry shampoo 😉
Wow, your hair looks great! I love the sleek, smooth blowout on you. <333
Wow! This a is a great hair transformation @CarolBT !
@CarolBT Your hair looks great curly and straight! Did your hair tangle at all during the process?
Thanks @Ispend2much6! No, my hair didn't tangle at all. Which was a problem for me previously when I would use a round brush and a dryer separately. I will say that there were two times when my hair got caught, but I was able to easily remove the loose strands. And I think that's fully operator error and my own lack of blow dry skills, rather than the tool itself. I don't usually blow dry my hair, so I'm a bit out of practice. 🙂
Wow @CarolBT Your hair look amazing! Thanks for detailed review.
@CarolBT Oh wow, your hair looks fantastic! I am so tempted by this.
@CarolBT Whoa! Thanks for the impressive review and pictures! You have officially sold me on this! I only hope my hair looks half as good as yours when I buy mine 😩
I love doing a round brush blow dry! I'm not the best at.it,.but thank goodness for high school cosmetology teaching me some of the basics! I watched.videos.od this being used on drybats instagram and it looks really cool and easy! I love.this look that you did @KatieBT, your hair always look gorgeous!
I really want this tool, I think it would make getting ready much quicker and with less effort!
Right now my favorite tool might be my blow dryer, I love that I can do a couple different styles using it (blow out, straight, or diffused) 🙂
This product looks awesome - I'm definitely not coordinated enough for a round brush and blow dryer, so I need something like this!
John Frieda has a similar one, but it took so long to dry my hair it wasn't worth it - how is the drying power on this one? I have fine hair, but a lot of it so it takes about 45 minutes to dry then straighten currently 🙂
@KatieBT So this is the product you were telling me about in the office! I have to pick one up 🙂
Best,
Rebecca
Love your results @KatieBT!
I too had a chance to give this a (double) shot, and honestly I didn't realize how much I liked it until I went back to my normal routine with my regular blow dryer two days later and found myself wishing I had it back! I typically blow-dry my hair simply as a means of just getting the job done so that I can style it either with a flat iron or a curling iron - similar to what @silliluci said below. Plus I just never really mastered the art of the perfectly smooth at-home blowout on my thick, frizz-prone hair, nor do I have the patience to try when I already know I'm going to end up styling it with another tool afterwards anyway. For me, the Double Shot didn't exactly deliver no-flat-iron-needed sleek perfection, but my hair was definitely much smoother and bouncier than my usual quick blow-dry. Most of all I loved the fact that I didn't need to juggle multiple tools at the same time, and I was shocked at how easily the barrel brush glided through my hair without getting tangled. Was it faster than my regular blow-dry? Probably not - but then again my "usual" is pretty rough and haphazard, so the Double Shot was definitely an improvement! I think if I had a little more practice, this could be a game-changer for me…
This is definitely an exciting launch! i wonder if it'll keep the volume in my hair throughout the day. Maybe i can stop crimping it in the morning
