Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

Good hair days are on the horizon! If you want to know how I gave myself an at-home Drybar blowout in 25 minutes I suggest you continue reading, but be warned... Some serious enabling may take place in this post.

In case you haven’t been stalking their Instagram like me, you may not know that Drybar is launching a new styling tool which is both a hybrid of their existing tools, yet at the same time, unlike else anything they currently offer. This all-in-one is appropriately named the Double Shot Blow-Dry Brush and we were lucky enough to be among some of the first beauty lovers to take this baby for a spin!

If you are a blow-drying pro, kiss your tedious, dual-handed blow-drying technique buh-baiii! My “old school” blow-dry routine makes me feel like those miserable humans you see in infomercials: grabbing a piece of hair, then my brush, then my blow-dryer, drying my hair, setting everything down, switching my blow-dryer off to grab another piece of hair, then it falls on the ground right onto my toe... struggle city! I also get a lot of pain in my arms from the laborious and repetitive motion – that's a story for another day. I was weary about whether this tool would live up to my expectations, but after just one use I am happy to say this is definitely a gamechanger for my blowout routine!

This blow-dryer brush is exactly what is sounds like – a blow-dryer and styling brush wrapped into one! Because you don’t have to hold a separate brush and your blow-dryer, this combo gives you a free hand so you’re able to tightly grab and guide each section of hair as you go. I sectioned my wet hair into about eight sections and tightly wound them with styling clips, then went in with the Double Shot, working my way up from my roots. Pro tip: Once you have a section of hair and you position the Double Shot at your roots, hold it there for at least 10-20 seconds and let that air flow. This technique will give allow your wet roots time to dry so you aren’t going over each strand dozens of times. Going slow is what helped my hair from getting frizzy so patience is a virtue! Another pro tip: Use DRYBAR Jump Start Quick Dry Blowout Serum to reduce styling time and protect your strands from heat.

I will let the photos speak for themselves – I am obsessed with these results and don’t want to live without this tool in my beauty arsenal. I will say that my 20 years of experience blow-drying my hair has helped me immensely, but my technique was getting rusty. As a rookie to using this tool, I impressed myself with these results and am 1000000% purchasing the Double Shot once it’s available. With more practice I am hoping to master my technique so I can achieve that just-walked-out-of-Drybar blowout lewk all on my own. Will keep you all updated on my progress on this thread 🙂

Full disclosure – we're still figuring out the exact day this will be available. The product page will go up this Tuesday, 11/19, and you can sign up for email notifications to be notified once it’s in stock. Of course, we will also update this thread once we have the date finalized.

In case you have thicker hair, my teammates also tried this tool and will jump in with their thoughts and tips. @GeorginaBT has thick, shoulder-length hair she likes to wear stick straight. @AlexBT has thick hair that’s wavy/curly. @BrendaBT has very thick, wavy hair.

Would you be up to trying the Double Shot? What’s the most life-changing styling tool you’ve ever used? Leave a reply and let us know!

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

I had a similar styling tool years ago, and now I'm wondering why I ever stopped using it!

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

you look beautiful @KatieBT ! Knowing how curly your hair is, that DryBar Brush did an awesome job!

Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

Looks beautiful and glossy! @KatieBT I'm terrible at blow drying and constantly looking for a tool that will help. I usually rough dry then style with a wand/tong but it's time consuming and not great for my hair. I will definitely be checking it out!

Hair looks great @KatieBT  💁‍♀️💁‍♀️

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT  Your hair look amazing! I have a similar tool from John Frieda that I bought many years ago but haven’t used it for a long time.I don’t remember it performing this well though. I guess I need to try that again so I can decide if I need to stalk Drybar.

Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT Have you ever used the Revlon One‑Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer? Is this product different? Thanks!

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

It does look just like the Revlon dryer. I own 2 of them, and have recommended it to many people; quite a few have bought it after seeing how it changed the way my hair looks, which is better than it ever has, with so much less effort than before. I can let my hair dry naturally, sleep with it wet overnight, wake up with it looking like a giant frizz-ball, spritz it with a bit of heat protectant, and in less than 10 minutes, it looks like I've had a blowout. On mornings I don't wash, it takes about 2 minutes to touch up and have it looking sleek and smooth. It has saved my hair from the flat iron, and saved a lot of time and damage from drying with a regular dryer. In the summer, when I dried my hair, it used to be a losing battle, because during the process, I would getting so hot from having the dryer on, my hair would frizz up again from the humidity. No more!

After seeing all the great reviews on YouTube, I picked one up. It works really well! And it's affordable so that's a win! I just wish it was a little quieter. That's really my only (small) complaint.

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT  This sounds amazing, and I love how your hair looks. I would love to try this out, and I feel like it will give me the volume I want, and narrow down my styling time.

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT This sounds amazing and your hair looks incredible! I am horrible at using a blowdryer and brush at the same time, this sounds like it would be infinitely easier. 🙂

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT I am all about ease.  My hair is an endless source of stress.  I will be signing up for notification and stalking this one.  My current routine is a complete pain.  Any idea of what the cost will be?

Your hair looks amazing.  I also really like the handle on this one.

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

Hi! The Double Shot retails for $150! We are so excited about this new tool!

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT  Your hair looks gorgeous! I really think I’d like to try this. I struggle with my hair so much...lack of body, fine, etc. Maybe this will be my miracle tool? 🙂 I am also not particularly talented at hair styling (have never been able to adequately master the blowout look), so I’m excited for this one!

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT  Your hair looks gorgeous and so full of body!  I’m so very tempted by this one!   Blowouts are such a hassle so maybe this is the answer!

RE: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT your hair looks amazing! 💜 did you find that the brush would be okay for Curly hair? Brushes tend to get stuck in mine When my hair has its natural curl to it.

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT Umm, WOW.  I want your hair!!!

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT This is exactly what I’m up for, looks very intriguing! I currently use a styler similar to this and absolutely love it for some of the reasons you mentioned, most of all-EASY styling. I will be looking out for this launch👍🏼😄

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@KatieBT  Very intriguing! 😲 Anything that helps me get a good blow out is something I’d be willing to try. I see all of you (mods) have thick hair so I wonder how this will work for someone with thin hair such as myself. Also, would you say it gets crazy hot when you put it close to your scalp? I’ve got a high pain tolerance but l prefer a product that doesn’t make my scalp feel like it’s on fire when I’m blow drying my hair. Let me know! 😉

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@gonerogue I have thin hair too, these tools work best for me but I’m used to ceramic bases. Mine is falling apart and I’ve been in the market for a new one, just haven’t started the search. I’m also curious how it works with thinned hair.

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@eshoe  Looks like we may have to try it out and see how it works for us? 😇😉

I have the AMIKA - Blowout Babe Thermal Brush and I love it but it has the tendency of pulling out too much hair the more I use it so I have to give it a break every once in a while and go back to my Dyson. I hope this one doesn’t have the same issue 😞

Re: Drybar Double Shot AKA The Hair Styling Gamechanger

@gonerogue   I have the Amika also, and my hair does get tangled in it easily.  It looks like the bristles on the Dry Bar are silicone; is that correct @KatieBT ?  If they are made of silicone and spaced a fair distance apart like they are, that might solve my issue.
