Curly hair products

Hello everyone, I would appreciate recommendations for any hair products that hold curly hair. My hair type is 3b and I’ve tried many products. My hair is thick so many products don’t hold my curls thigh and my hair tends to be very frizzy as well. Any tips would be appreciated as well!! Thank you

Re: Curly hair products

I have thick dry hair as well, although my curl pattern isn’t that tight. Some things I’ve bought at Sephora I really like are

Mizani 25 Miracle Nourishing Hair Oil   when I put this in my hair fresh out of the shower my hair is less frizzy and dry for days. It doesn’t give a lot of hold but my hair almost always looks good when I use this first.

for hold, I prefer ‘curl creams’, and that depends on how luxe you want to go. Oribe has a very nice curl cream, and the Christophe Robin curl butter is so thick and nourishing. But I also really like the Botanika curl cream, it’s sold at target. Essentially you need to do two steps, one oil for conditioning then a cream or gelée for hold.

Of course having well-moisturized and conditioned hair is important too. I like mizani’s moisture fusion line a lot. Make sure you have a shampoo that is really rich and isn’t drying out your hair, and leave your conditioner on for 5 minutes or more every time you wash.

Re: Curly hair products

Hi, @brianna7240  - Couple of things I would recommend. If you have a lot of long hair, talk to your stylist about going through with a thinning shears, or about adding some light layers. Long, dense hair will weigh the curl down, which will make it less pronounced; the thinning or layering will lighten it up, so the curls aren't weighed down.

I'd also recommend adding some masks and curl-enhancing products. Curly hair tends to be dry, so masks will help with moisture. The amika Soulfood Nourishing Hair Mask 16 oz/ 500 mL is an excellent mask for dry hair. You could also try the Aussie 3-Minute Curls (deep) conditioner. You can get that for about $5 at Target, Walgreens, or Wal-Mart. For curl-enhancing products, I've had good luck with Verb Curl Conditioner and John Freida Frizz-Ease Dream Curls Conditioner (available at Target, Amazon, Walgreens, et al).

For the frizz - I'd recommend Moroccanoil Moroccanoil Treatment Hair Oil  . For a lower-priced version, you could also try the One n Only Argan Oil at Sally Beauty. When my hair is really frizzy, I even add John Freida Frizz-Ease Extra Strength. Final rec for the frizz - John Freida Secret Weapon. Just rub a small amount in your palms, and apply throughout your hair. When my hair is really frizzy, I add this, put my hair in a bun, and the heat from my head/hair helps it to penetrate and really de-frizz.

As far as drying your hair is concerned, if you need to use a hair dryer, I'd recommend using a diffuser. I actually find mine does better with just drying the roots, and letting the rest air-dry.

For reference - I have a lot of frizz-prone 2c/3a hair with an uneven pattern. What I am recommending has helped me enhance and even out the curl pattern in my hair.
