Chemo is playing havoc with my hair!

I'm desperate to find something to help save my hair! I'm on two different types of chemo for severe RA. This is stuff that I will be on for the rest of my life, so I'm trying to find things to help me hold on to my hair. I have long curly hair. The chemo makes it dry, brittle, and every time I wash it, so much comes off in my hands. So I only wash it 2 to 3 times a week for fear of it either falling out or breaking off. I've been trying some dry shampoos in between washings, but not so wonderful. I've tried everything Walgreens has to offer in the way of argon oil shampoos. Does anyone else go through this? Does anyone have any advice on how to stop my hair from  breaking off and such? I love my long curls and this disease has taken enough from me already, I'm doing my best to find things that will help me fight back and keep my curls. Any advice is welcome

Re: Chemo is playing havoc with my hair!

@Anonymous hi again, I spoke to our hair specialists and here's more advice: "I would also recommend Briogeo. They are one of our Clean Brands, so filled with naturally derived, clean ingredients. They just launched Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Shampoo & Conditioner and it’s one of my new faves. Smells amazing and is replenishing, hydrating, and encourages shine with matcha (antioxidants), apple (hair health), and kale (rich in omega fatty acids). They also have a co-wash in the same line which would be great for her because it gently cleanses without stripping hair of natural oils. Great for dry and brittle hair."

@Anonymous thank you so much for sharing. Two brands to explore at Sephora are Alterna (anti aging & repleneshing) and Keranique (growth & retention). Let me ask the hair specialists here for other recos and sending lots of love your way.

Re: Chemo is playing havoc with my hair!

@Anonymous, the only way I know of that can prevent hair loss is to use cold caps. Basically you wear a really cold cap over your head that lowers the temperature of your scalp, almost like, freezing it, so that the hair follicles are less affected. I don't know anyone who used the cold cap so I can't speak to it personally, but from what I've read, it's worked for some people. It doesn't prevent hair loss entirely but they report that their hair thinning was not noticeable to others. It can also be difficult to wear the cap because it's so cold, not to mention it's rather expensive. However, if you have health insurance, you may be able to get the cap covered in lieu of a wig. If you do a google search, you can find more information. Stay strong ❤️
