Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

i love to splurge on my dog's beauty products, i think it would be so cool if Sephora sold high end dog shampoo, conditioners, sprays , hair bows and other accessories,  i would definitely upgrade to Rouge status in about 6 months. Smiley Very Happy

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

as a dog owner who enjoys buying high end products for him , i don't have that attitude, i respect the fact not every business can't be dog friendly for hygienic reasons, offering the products online is always an option.

PetSmart and Petco are pet friendly and i do shop there occassionally, but i shop at Sephora more often and browse Sephora's website more often, so for consumers like myself, it would be nice if Sephora carried a high end pet product line  it would increase my business and the business of other like me.

as mentioned before a lot of companies are jumping on dog products because it's a billion dollar market, if restaurants and high end hotels are allowing dogs into their establishments, surely Sephora can add a few products on a shelf in their store.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

You would be in the minority of dog owners they spend a lot on their dogs in that thinking.

The reason hotels and restaurants are becoming dog friendly is retired baby boomers.  They'll eat or stay somewhere else if they can't take pooch with them and they represent a LOT of the disposable income in this economy.  I know, my father has gone around the bend with the dog and will pitch fits over dog-friendliness.  It's no coincidence that the dog-friendly trend started in places where people have second and summer homes.  Retirees aren't Sephora's target demographic though and it's highly unlikely the gains would outweigh the costs.  Now a hotel on the Maine coast on the other hand ... bundles of cash from going pet friendly since they'll get picked over the place down the street that isn't pet friendly even if there's a significant cost difference.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

making the products online exclusive would still be an option so there would never be any confusion as to whether or not dogs are allowed in the store.  i suspect the only reason Sephora doesn't carry high end dog products is because their competitors haven't done it.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

Wait, I'm confused.

Your reasoning is 'When I am browsing in Sephora, I want to buy my dog a beauty product at the same time as I buy for me because I think it would be both convenient and fun, and saves me from having to order online from the doggie company.'

If Sephora were to grant your wish but make it online only as you keep suggesting, then what would be the difference?  You're ordering online - what's the difference between ordering online from Sephora or ordering online from the dog shop?

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

i'd earn points.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

The economics of the last two situations are very different to a retail store.  Shelf space in bricks-and-mortar retail stores is actually expensive real estate, so it has to be profitable.  So it comes down to 'What is going to be more profitable on this small piece of shelf in this high-end human makeup store?  Some $15 bottles of dog shampoo, or a popular $50 eyeshadow palette that is half the size of the dog stuff (so therefore can sell $100 worth of product in the same space as the $15 dog shampoo)?'  Now that is a no brainer.

Also, you bring your dog into the hotel or restaurant with you, you pay for the privilege.  That's the deal and that's the profit.  It's money for nothing.  And if there's no dogs, it doesn't affect their bottom line at all.  But selling dog stuff at Sephora isn't that same situation.  They have to buy the stock, give it expensive shelf space and take much more risk than the hotel or restaurant.  Totally different model.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

good insight, well said.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

That's part of what I was trying to say last night... high end pet product places inevitably become places where pets are ok.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

Right? Someone with a little dog in their LV purse will be like oh well she's so small and quiet and well behaved I just need to get X for her and it could become a slippery slope.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

And... oh, shes's so cute, nobody will mind if she wanders around this display. Nobody could ever mind her.

There's a fundamental disconnect between these groups of people and the rest of us, who are labeled as dog-haters or intolerant just because we don't want your animal (no, it's not a human baby) around items for sale.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

I love my dogs like they are people, but unless we are going to the dog store they stay at home.

I really think the only way it would work is if they were separated, like banana republic And athletica, or something. Sephora and Sephoruff (that's bad, I know!) separate websitcoupons you have one account and tabs at the top. I feel like the market for this is probably minuscule compared to Sephora/Ulta's market.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

Sephoruff is brilliant!

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

there is no slippery slope, no dogs allowed is an easy rule to enforce, i don't believe there is one employee at Sephora that is willing to lose their job for a cute little dog.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

Exactly. Regardless of Sephora becoming pet friendly or not, It's not that big of a market and is very localized, so why would you risk losing clients of your main market to try something that is so specific?
And Sephora is a store that sells worldwide, as much as dogs are treated like family member worldwide, the practice of spending that much in dog products it's done by an absolute minority of the public Sephora  targets. It would be wiser to invest in in branches like organic cosmetics first as it is an at least twice bigger of a market.
You can tell the public would't respond well to that just by reading the reactions of people here.
As I said, pet friendly or not, if you do a research with women asking if they would like to buy their dog products in the same place they buy their high-end cosmetics I'm betting the immediate answer of most would be no, as much as I love my dogs as I love my own children!

Thank goodness we have finally solved the problem of what belongs on the main page of Beauty Talk and what is off topic to our community's discussions.

Don't forget about cats, I'm getting sick of my furry girls eyeing my makeup! Smiley Very Happy

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

My cat is already thrilled with Sephora - he loves that they sold me cat-oriented skincare.  I use the Perricone Cold Plasma line, which has a slight - but distinct - fishy odor.  All I have to do is put this on at night without another treatment over top of it, and he's in kitty heaven.  I'll feel little kitty whiskers brushing my cheeks while he sniffs, sniffs, sniffs and purrs.....

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one ho noticed that >.<

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

OK, didn't want to get into this because it's a little bit gross but... who's job is it going to be to pick up the urine and feces left in the store?  It happens even with the best behaved animals.  If you think the customers are going to do it themselves, think again.  Most of the time they bolt.  I've seen it.  I once saw a woman at an art festival RUN when her great dane lifted his leg on a $2500 handmade quilt.  Run fast with doggie's little outfit flapping the breeze as they went.  Now imagine that's a makeup display...

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

again, never once did i suggest Sephora become pet friendly, just pet product friendly.

Re: Will Sephora ever carry high end products for dogs?

I love my dogs and I spend money on them. I'm like a crazy dog lady lol..  I know TIGI (Bed Head) and Paul Mitchell do sell animal products. IMO high end beauty items for animals belong in dog boutiques.  A place where it's about the animals. They do not belong in Sephora.  But Sephora could branch out with an animal line and sell to pet stores and online.... not sure it would be profitable but... In any case the two shouldn't mix for various reasons. When I shop for my dogs I go to pet stores no matter what I'm looking for (toys, food, grooming supplies, collars, etc).

I'll say this though... I do have access to where hair stylist buy their products and equipment and because they carry Paul Mitchell they carry the pet line as well but I've never seen anyone with their pet plus I don't think they'd be allowed.
