What's on your plate?

Hello there, ladies and gents!

Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask:

"What's on your plate?"

The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween!

For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet.

Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water.

For lunch today, I had:

-Brown rice

-Steamed egg

-Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper

-Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens)

Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have? 😄

Re: What's on your plate?

I love Annie’s! It’s one of the better tasting boxed Mac and Cheese options out there. Bon appétit @Mellmars1185!

Re: What's on your plate?

@JoSometimes Thank you! I add a dash of kosher salt on top. I feel like it is gourmet 😋

Re: What's on your plate?

Enjoy your no fuss and relaxing dinner 🍲 💛 @Mellmars1185

Re: What's on your plate?

@Mellmars1185 awww, they're so cute!

Re: What's on your plate?

A good day for you @Mellmars1185 !

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6 For sure! I am used to cooking for others needs and wants (which i don't mind). But sometimes it is nice to fill my cup 😊

Re: What's on your plate?

I've been spending parts of my weekend testing out recipes for a dinner party next month. Mushroom risotto was on the menu for today. I added some sriracha to my bowl because I love sriracha. 😋

To keep with the mushroom theme, I made myself a Blume Reishi Hot Cacao, iced, with almond milk, and following @heartsmyface's recommendation, added a splash of maraschino cherry juice for a little something extra. Jury's still out on whether the mushroom risotto will make the dinner party menu, but I'll keep making myself these Blume drinks.

Re: What's on your plate?

@itsfi If you need a "professional" taste tester to help out, I'm more than happy to offer my services 😄

Re: What's on your plate?

Come on over @Samtian! 😃 You’re welcome anytime!

Re: What's on your plate?

Ooh Risotto is so good @itsfi. Yummy Sriracha 🌶  too!

Oooh If it didn't make the cut for dinner, what are you thinking of taking it's place?

Re: What's on your plate?

@CynthieLu, thank you! 😃 Thai curry. Lol. But then there’s the whole spice level to factor in, as I’m thinking about it now. 😱 It’s looking more like risotto is going to be the winner. That would be fine by me, just need to add a little more seasoning / herbs to it.

Re: What's on your plate?

Ooh both those dishes are so tasty, but yes Thai has a whole bunch more spices and spice level than a good palette friendly risotto. I bet you thou, it'll will be scrumptious, which ever you choose @itsfi guaranteed!

Re: What's on your plate?

@itsfi Ohh sounds tasty. It sounds like a lot of thought and love is going into your dinner party! 🍽

Re: What's on your plate?

Thank you @Mellmars1185! 😊 I have a couple folks with allergies and dietary restrictions to keep in mind. Need to come up with a vegan friendly “main” - I’m thinking grilled tofu but I’ll have to try it out and see how it pairs with the mushroom risotto. And how to season / marinate it.

Re: What's on your plate?

@itsfi  I love mushroom risotto; it was the only type I ever made I loved it that much.  I've never grilled tofu, but mushroom risotto makes me think of Italian food, so I wonder how Italian vinaigrette would work as a marinade, or incorporating balsamic glaze somehow.

I think I may have to try that with chicken breasts.

Re: What's on your plate?

An Italian theme is what I’m going for so those are wonderful ideas @Ispend2much6! Thank you. I’m leaning towards a balsamic glaze. I planned on salmon and beef tips as my other protein options for folks. A balsamic glaze sounds like it would work for and help tie together all three! 😍😍😍

Re: What's on your plate?

Not sure I've ever posted in this thread before, but I made one of my favorite stupidly easy meals tonight and thought I'd share!

I'm not big on cooking...well, I hate the cleanup after cooking more than anything, so I try and avoid it when I can, and when I do cook, I like to keep it as simple as possible. This one's quick and easy, and can be endlessly customized as you see fit!

I love pasta, in a borderline obsessive way lol, but anything more involved than a jar of sauce and a box of pasta wasn't something I did very often, until I stumbled on a "faux-fredo" recipe. The basic sauce is

1 can evaporated milk

8oz cheese (I generally use a shredded Italian blend, but you could try just about anything you like here)

It's a bit bland on its own, so season generously to taste (I do sauteed garlic, salt, pepper, basil, but again, anything you like!)

Stir the evaporated milk and cheese together over low heat until cheese has melted, season to taste. Can add some pasta water or milk to thin if you've been heavy handed with the cheese and it won't all melt. This is plenty for a 16oz box of pasta plus anything else you might want to add!

It's not quite as rich as a true Alfredo, but it's also not as fussy to make as Alfredo, and for someone like me (single and likes to make a big batch for leftovers so I can avoid cooking for a few more days, ha!), a big plus is that it doesn't break when you microwave it like Alfredo does, and it's just as yummy on days 2-4 as it is on day one 😆

I always add some meat and veggies to make it a one pot meal...my favorite combo is hot Italian sausage, onions, bell peppers, and asparagus all sauteed up together, then mix in some fresh cherry tomatoes and top with a bit of shredded parmesan.

Re: What's on your plate?

Pasta, cheese, veggies. This ticks all my boxes @RGbrown Pasta can be so many things and suit so many flavours. I could see a little smoked paprika on top of this being real nice 👌

Re: What's on your plate?

Mmmmm, this looks delicious @RGbrown! Love how quick and easy it is too! Jotting down the recipe.

Re: What's on your plate?

@RGbrown Great meal idea. Does the condensed milk taste sweet? I love sautéed veggies in my pasta as well.

Re: What's on your plate?

@Mellmars1185

Nah, not sweet at all, this is evaporated milk, not sweetened condensed milk (the cans do look similar and are right next to each other though, so don't grab the wrong one...that would be, hmmm, interesting 😂)!
