Hello there, ladies and gents!
Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask:
"What's on your plate?"
The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween!
For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet.
Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water.
For lunch today, I had:
-Brown rice
-Steamed egg
-Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper
-Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens)
Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have? 😄
@blackkitty2014 Thanks! What nice in-laws! I have a feeling no matter how old our kids get, we'll still want to take care of them in some way.
@Mellmars1185 Well, it had a whole bottle of wine in it, so...:) Definitely could taste that, but my husband actually liked it because it had a lot of meat in it. He doesn't like brothy soups, and this recipe called for 4 lbs of stew meat, a bottle of wine, and 2 cups of water. But, I just couldn't do that, so I subbed 1 lb. of meat for a few parsnips.
I'm really into making big batches of food so I don't have to cook as often. I like to cook, but I usually cook completely from scratch for health and allergy reasons for the whole family, so it takes alot of time, and I have other things to do, like clean. 🙄
@Ispend2much6 That sounds delicious! I love making stew. Especially this time of year. I sear the meat (with flour) before i throw into the pot/slow cooker and then deglaze the pan. I should try deglazing with red wine!
@Mellmars1185 You're a better cook than I because I'm too lazy to go through all of those steps.
My favorite beef stew recipe is Betty Rosbottom's Melt in Your Mouth Beef and Barley Soup. If I'm feeling fancy I broil the beef in the oven for a little bit to get it darkened, (easier than searing,) and roast the veggies in it in olive oil before putting everything together in a crockpot or dutch oven on the stove. But, most of the time I literally dump everything in the pot at one time! You can't really tell the difference.
This recipe's directions were to brown the meat, add and sautee the onion and garlic, and then mix 6 TB of flour into it, then add the liquids. I was surprised it didn't get lumpy.
Please let me know if you come across any great soup or stew recipes! I kind of get stuck making the same ones.
@Ispend2much6 I am not a better cook! I had a recipe yesrs ago and made it ao many times I memorized it. Now i kind of base my stew off that recipe and make small tweeks to it. Roasting the veggies would definitely add more flavour! I throw everything in also! I love a stew with a fresh bun and butter! If I find anymore good recipes I will let you know!
Could anyone please advise me on which of these woks would be the best to get? I'm not good at seasoning pans so I wondered how different the pre-seasoned one would be. Thanks!

I give up can't post the picture.
@Ispend2much6 in my opinion go with the pre-seasoned one, especially if you feel like you aren't good with seasoning the pans yourself. I can't wait to see what you get and all the tasty meals you're going to make.
@AMK721. Thanks I think you're right. Trying to season a casr iron pan was enough for me.
@Ispend2much6 I feel ya on that. I'm kicking myself for not asking for my grandmother's cast iron skillet.
Tonight I ordered a pizza. Working and coming home to cook is tiring. I need a break today!
Our son is going back to school tomorrow, and I asked him if he would take some lasagne back with him if I made it. He said, "Sure." 😆 It's my way of saying I'll miss him, and still be able to "mommy" him a little.
And I'm sending some almond cake for dessert.
This is an experimental, bare bones lasagne though- I'm not boiling the noodles beforehand. Hope I added enough sauce.
Taco Tuesday... Enough said? Somehow the actual taco did not get a picture so here you go..🌮.. Honestly it is a free for all in my house. Sometimes there are more toppings. The men in my house make a double decker. A double decker is a soft shell with sour cream or greek yogurt, wrapped around a hard shell. The benefit is when the hard shell breaks you still have a taco in tact. The downside is the extra calories. I tend to opt out.
@Mellmars1185 Sounds like our house- bigger is better. Wish I had a male metabolism.
It’s good idea to substitute Greek yogurt with sour cream @Mellmars1185 👍 😋 Yummy
@Ispend2much6 yum - sounds like he's in for a delicious dinner when he gets back!
@Kim888. I have to admit taste-wise the lasagne is ggod- I like using Rao's marinara for lasagne and this time one of the jars was the arrabriata version and it is SPICY!
And cake... is always good!
@blackkitty2014. So are you! We would do anything for our sons, right?
That's so sweet, @Ispend2much6! I'm sure that your son will really appreciate having them.
