What's on your plate?

Hello there, ladies and gents!

Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask:

"What's on your plate?"

The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween!

For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet.

Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water.

For lunch today, I had:

-Brown rice

-Steamed egg

-Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper

-Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens)

Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have? Smiley Very Happy

Re: What's on your plate?

@DiVWA did you use a regular spiralizer or one of those smaller handheld tools?

Re: What's on your plate?

@wheeeee, I used a counter-top type but store it in its original box and keep it in a pantry out of sight. The brand I use is Paderno and I bought its Basic model in 2012. I see on Amazon that they still have this model, which is a 3-blade one. Besides the Paderno spiralizer brand coming up when I do a search on Amazon for it, apparently another company's model (Palermo) comes up too, but from reading the Q&As, that model is possibly a cheaper plastic and has cleverly branded its name to be quite similar to the Paderno one; but that model is a 5-blade one and has many reviews so judge which you prefer based on features and reviews.

I recently checked out of library a book called "Inspiralized" that I think is helpful in using this gadget better. It not only has recipes, but a table that tells you what type of blade to use on various veggies and how long to cook those veggies after they've been spiralized. The broccoli noodle dish I made above was based on a recipe in the book.

Re: What's on your plate?

@DiVWA

That is too funny about the Palermo!

I also have a Paderno from Amazon and it works quite well.  I mostly do zoodles and when they have the big fat ones at the store I spiralized them.

I know Ali's website.  It is great!

I also go to the library twice a month and have been on the Waitlist since February for Ali's book. I was spot #11.  I just checked and it looks like I am NEXT! Yipeeeee!

Photos of my 'Inspiralized' creations coming soon....Stay tuned!

What were some of the better recipes and worst?  I know she likes to spiralize everything.

Re: What's on your plate?

@wheeeee, I don't recall which recipes I copied from the book but I made sure to copy her tables with all the veggies and cooking times. (A suggestion if you copy any recipes is to copy her page that describes which blade is which, and then cut out that blade description and make sure it shows somewhere on the recipe page you're copying.)

She does describe method of making buns from the noodles, which I want to try.

Sorry I can't recall which ones I copied. I filed them away so can't pull them out. Some of them seemed rather obvious, so I concentrated on ones that were more unique.

@DiVWA

Wow this looks soooo good. I have to buy one of thos veggie spirilizars! Yum!

Re: What's on your plate?

Tonight will be a crock pot Italian sausage stew switch a veggie base, spaghetti sauce, and leeks for the broth (plus everything else). Sounds weird, but it's amazing!  And I'm trying to add both leeks and okra this time around, should be very interesting Smiley Happy

If you get a knock on the door tonight, don't worry, it's just me with an empty bowl! Smiley Tongue

Re: What's on your plate?

It makes a very large amount, so I've ghost no problems with that!

Re: What's on your plate?

argh i'm sooooo hungry and Italian sausage stew sounds AMAAAAAAZING!!!!  I actually came here to post that I did Cantonese-style steamed spare ribs yesterday, just like lylysa posted a few weeks ago!  yummmmmmmm.  It's been forever since I actually cooked something like that!

Re: What's on your plate?

Lol the best compliment is someone getting seconds!  And those ribs sound positively mouth watering!

Re: What's on your plate?

They are! And because you cook them at a lower heat, the meat gets tender and stays juicy!

Re: What's on your plate?

Oooo, good to hear they turned out yummy!

Re: What's on your plate?

Yessssss....hey everyone, dinner tonight at MoreGun's place!!!!! haha!

Re: What's on your plate?

LOL that's great!  I'm gonna invite a few friends, hope she doesn mind!  hahaha

Re: What's on your plate?

Just tested the broth, still needs a few hours, but the leeks are definitely better in the soup than onion, there's a bolder savory flavor with a touch of sweet onion Smiley Happy the good quality paprika adds to this new flavor dimension wonderfulweb while the veggie base removes the need for salt entirely Smiley Very Happy

Re: What's on your plate?

Wonderful flavor, I swear my phone only decide that its autocorrect is drunk on this webpage O.o

Re: What's on your plate?

The autocorrect on my iPad is made of whisky. It does that every other sentence so I gave up and only post on BT with laptop.

Re: What's on your plate?

Go home, iPad, you're drunk!

Re: What's on your plate?

Your phone is drunk on good food smells!!!

Re: What's on your plate?

my mom was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago.  the form that she has makes it hard for her to remember the names of thing and she looses her words.  After dinner she says to me "I want those bar things".

I run through every bar type item I can think of.  She is getting frustrated at me because I dont know what she is talking about.  Finally she says, "you know those things that weren't done."  Here I realize she is talking about some chocolate chip bars I made a few weeks ago.

I followed the recipe which was wrong and I didn't have enough flour in them so they were like under baked chocolate chip cookies in the middle.  So, being the good daughter I am, I just took these out off the oven.  Just need them to cool a bit.

Re: What's on your plate?

Errrmahgawdddd!!!

That looks delicious....recipe post???? Pretty please?

Re: What's on your plate?

They are super easy -

1/2 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

1 to 1 1/4 cup flour, sifted

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/8 tsp baking soda

1/2 to 3/4 cup chocolate chips

melt butter and let it cool to room temperature.  Add sugar, egg and vanilla - mix well.  Add dry ingredients gradually, blending well.  Pour into greased 9x9 pan, spread well.  Sprinkle with chocolate chips.  Bake for 20-25 minutes until set.

Notes - I sift all the dry ingredients into a bowl, then add it into the wet.  If you use 1 cup cup of flour, they will be more gooey in the center.  1 1/4 they are closer to a chocolate chip cookie.  You can start with 1 and work you way up.  It took me about 4 tries to get them to the right texture.  it is important to measure, then sift.  I love to warm up a chunk in the microwave and serve with vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmmmmm 😍😍😍😍
