Happy Galentine's Day!!!
Congrats my Bossettes and Bosses-in-training! Wow, so much has happened, on the boards and in the real world!
I don't know where else to say this, so I figured I'd share with the BICers who are the most involved and the kindest in this pocket of the cyberverse. My father has suffered from end stage renal disease for almost 17 years, and has been on dialysis for nearly 5 years. After my mom passed almost 2 years ago, my dad made it his mission to spend some time back in his native country, Ecuador, reconnecting with his family there. Some relatives offered to get tested to donate a kidney, so my dad traveled back at the beginning of January to see what could be done. One of his nephews looked to be to a match, which was such amazing news that I hightailed it down to Ecuador to help make all the arrangements. Then it didn't happen, after some long discussions about long term possible outcomes, and honestly I cannot blame anybody for feeling like this was too much to handle in reality. But then other family members suddenly offered to get tested, so we stayed to get all of that done and in the process got to spend time with the family I'd only ever known via What's App.
Well, fast forward another week (we were planning on staying through the weekend) when we get a message from my dad's FL doctor to say my dad had finally been approved to be on the recipient list here in the US! So, although we hated to leave so abruptly, the travel arrangements were made, and here we are back at the beginning, getting everything in order so my dad can stop getting dialysis three times a week. I feel like there's so much more to the story, but the point is, you do what you have to do when you have to do it, because no effort is ever a waste if the intentions are good.
Now that everything is sorta back to normal (lots of more doctors' visits but at least my sis and I can handle things locally), I am so grateful to have this community with which to share my highs and lows! My hubby missed me, my students missed me, my friends missed me, and I missed everyone back a million fold I think. While I was elated to be with my dad and family, I was so far from home, and I was so busy all the time with doctors, labs, and hearts-to-hearts with everyone, that to be home and finally get to just relax and have a little me time again, well, these are luxuries I won't take for granted ever again!
My PSA: please please please, if you've ever thought about being a living donor, I can't tell you how much it means not only to the person who may receive your gift of life, it means the world to the family members who want their loved ones to keep on having a fighting chance. Thanks for reading, now let's keep the party going!!!
Thinking of you, your dad, and your whole family! So glad you are receiving hopeful and positive news! @LCResz
Thanks @sister13! Your thoughts are very much appreciated! XOXO
@LCResz Oh, sweetheart, thank you so much for sharing your story! That is a lot of weight for one person and one family to carry! I am glad to hear there may be hope on the horizon for your dad and I am sending you all hugs, love and prayers! I am happy you find some comfort here with us. Love you, girl! ❤️
@Tamara76 Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers, they mean a lot to my family and me. My dad had another great doctor's appointment yesterday, so all fingers and toes remain crossed. I love ya too, BIC keeps me from spending all my time reading about surgery 😷
@LCResz I only got to have any memories of my paternal grandfather due to the generosity of organ donors (he received a complete heart transplant a few months before I turned 4). I got 24 additional years of memories with him due to that person's generosity after death.
As soon as I started driving I signed up to be an organ donor. Once I heard about living donation I signed up for that. I haven't been matched to anyone yet, but as an adoptee I keep thinking "Well, that would be an awkward way of meeting a biological family member...but it would be for a good cause."
Best of luck for your father. I will keep you and him in my thoughts.
@ChristineR07 I am so happy to hear you have so many cherished memories thanks to the generosity of another family. We're all connected eventually in this world, sometimes in ways we can't even imagine yet. Thank you for your kinds thoughts and words, they mean a lot yo my family and me. 🌞
Please know that we are thinking of you and your Dad!
Wow! you have all been through so much!
I'm wishing you all the very best outcome!
@tsavorite Thanks from my family and me! You don't even realize all that's going on until you get out of the moment and have some time to reflect. This new hope and the fact that his sister will be here to help him has made my dad happier than I've seen him in two years, so all I can feel is grateful 😀
That you have gratitude for the bright spots in all this is such a great thing!
Gratitude is such a gift! Hugs to you! 🙂
@LCResz I couldn't imagine going through that.. I'm glad your dad is on the list & I hope he gets matched soon! Sending good thoughts your way! ❤️
@ohheyitscindyk Thank you for your good thoughts! The last three weeks feel like somebody hit a pause button and now everything is speeding up to return to normal speed. BIC helps restore the normal level of crazy in my life! Love y'all!
