Overused Words/Phrases

Are there any phrases and/or words that you think are overused and are starting to bug the heck out of you? The one that is getting on my nerves the most is "curated". For example, "this makeup line was curated by our beauty editor." I just feel it's so over the top and pompous. Also, the word "sweet" instead of "cool". I actually heard a woman who had to be at least 75 years old using it. I laughed so hard I almost fell over.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

My friend says that too! I want to correct her so many times:X

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

I am so sick of hearing fashion or design people calling everything a "marriage" or a "juxtaposition." They go together. We get it.

Also, saying everything is "the new" whatever.

And basically every unnecessary abbreviation. Like, really, you have to say resto? Restaurant is too complicated for you?

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Like,  that's so annoy!

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Or "totes adorbs".  That makes me want to throat punch the person who said it.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

I used to say that to my husband to annoy him. hehe Smiley Very Happy

Except, I say totes mcgoats adorbs

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

You've got a legit point.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

When people use the term "totally rad" or "amazeballs" multiple times in the same conversation. I just involuntarily cringe.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

"Amazeballs" makes me cringe no matter how many times it's been used!

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Just gonna leave this here

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

I'm more bothered by misuse of apostrophe's than any phrase's.  <----  Like this (cringing).  Confusing plural and possessive is more annoying.  Not trying to be the grammar police, but I just couldn't think of any phrases that bother me that much Smiley Happy

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

omg ye's. (see what I did there?) Smiley Tongue

Seriously, it's the worst.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Or its the worse hehe, I'm annoying myself now Smiley Happy

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

The same people who use extra apostrophes tend to ignore commas.  I just want to take the "comma" from the top and move it to the bottom where it's needed.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

"I could care less"

Ok, then care less? Or did you mean could not care less? I heard this in a movie recently too and I was surprised by the mistake...unless it was to make the character look stupid.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Sounds like it worked lol

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

I am guessing it was intentional.  The writer was trying to make the character look dumb.  Works in real life too.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

I hate it when people talk, like, bad or whatever.  (Three for the price of one there!)

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Good one.  It's bad enough when young people do it, but I dislike when older, educated people speak this way.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

It's actually painful to listen to a sentence like that!

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

YOLO

Bro

Bae

Haters gonna hate (although I have been guilty of saying this in the past ...)

Ping me

People who actually say "LOL," "WTF," "OMG" or other abbreviations

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Girls actually do say OMG.  I couldn't believe it when I heard it.

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

I felt the same way!

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Yes to all of these!

Re: Overused Words/Phrases
