Our Lips are Sealed: The Lipstick NO BUY

2016 let me realize how many lipsticks I have, how many point perks of lippies I have and I realize... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. This is a tough challenge, but who wants to go on a lipstick no buy? I'll probably open up a thread for other products as well. 

Let's encourage each other to spend practically and this is a small step in one direction. Maybe instead of that lipstick, you save that money and keep saving and then go on a seaside cottage retreat? (pulling strings here!) 🙂 

1. Items in this category include lipsticks, glosses and lip liners. I was going to consider lip balms, but I will categorize that as skin care. Scrubs are ok. Tinted lip balms are fine and are considered to be the BB/CC/DD/EE/FF/ZZ creams of lip products. 

2. You are limited to ONE PURCHASE. This is in place for that special LE. 

3. You can drop out once you have all the lipsticks for the year gone. Well you probably need to grab one lipstick right? (and hopefully you stick with that one for the rest of the year) 

4. TSBs do not count into the purchase category if you didn't buy anything for that lipstick you are trading for. 

5. Exchanges because the beauty product caused an allergic reaction and having to purchase a new item doesn't count. Safety first!

6. Using Ulta Points, Nordstrom Notes, etc. is ok as long as the amount matches the lipstick. I would prefer there be no use of those as the Ulta Points can be used on Skincare and Nordstrom Notes as clothes. YOU CANNOT spend just for the sake of using this rule. 

7. Sephora BI Point Perks are exempt, again with the rule above, YOU CANNOT SPEND JUST FOR THE SAKE OF USING THIS RULE.

8. Samples that are from GWPs, foil samples are fine.

9. I really hope this won't come up, but you shouldn't try to ask a lipstick as a gift! 😄 

10. Subscription boxes that contain lip products do not count into spend as I believe the items are at random. 

11. Sephora Favorites sets cannot have a majority lipstick pack. Must be 1%

I am doing the low-buy challenge (only repurchasing cleansers/moisturizers as needed), but I KNOW I need to do this specific challenge, since I own way more lipsticks than there are lips in my entire family 😕

That having been said, I just pray no gorgeous reds come along... They are my siren's call every time 😞

I think I might join in. I don't have a ton of lipsticks (think less than the number of days in any given month) but I have basically doubled my collection over the holiday season and I like to have a minimalist make-up collection. So good luck to all who join 🙂

Just one question...what about lip products included in sets (like the Sephora Favorites) or subscription boxes?

Lip products in Subscription boxes are ok. Sephora Favorites, if 99% are not lip products (that means the Give me Lip sets are not ok)

Okay... I hesitantly step into this challenge knowing I have lipstick sickness, a zillion lipsticks, and only one pair of lips.  

I think I can make it til November when I'll be going nuts in Japan and Korea.  Can I still play?

Wow.. One lipstick sounds immensely challenging for me, although I've already put myself on a NO BUY for nude lipsticks for various reasons. 😞 Kudos to those that face this challenge and succeed!

Ha, I feel like I could reasonably do this if it was 1 each month or 1 every other month, but whew one for the entire year I think I would just be setting myself up for failure.

Totally agree @snoflakefaerie. I have WAY too many lip products already. I panned about 16 or 17 lip items last year and my goal is to do the same this year but I know I bought many that I just had to have too. Also being in Canada some that have come out in the US haven't made their way to us yet (or at least in my local stores yet). If I could say I wasn't going to buy more than 6 in a year I think I could do that but only 1, I would fail this month just because I know I would find one I would have to have.

I wish I could say that I would sign up for this. I have way more lipstick than I could wear. Lipstick, especially LE, is my kryptonite. 

I took my 4 year old son to a birthday party today. We were wrapping the child's present and my son said that we should bring a gift for his mommy as well. He suggested buying her a lipstick. A bit of me cringed but mostly I thought he was sweet to suggest it and choice of present deserved a high five, lol. My sweetie...
