Re: New CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK THREAD

Here is my pic of my lip stain! Ok, it's not quite a stain-- it's a blend of Buxom lip pencil in Brooklyn and Sephora lip gloss. I realised after I posted that I had returned my Tarte lip stain because it was drying, eventhough it claims to be moisturizing. I love Tarte, but that product, I don't! Anyway, this combo gives the llok of a lip stain without the fuss!!stain.JPG

Re: New CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK THREAD

@mermadelove- You look so nice with your lipstain and the awesome shadow!  I am in total awe, I can't pull off blue shadow to save myself, I always look sickly!

Re: New CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK THREAD

@mermadelove:  Love your lipstain (and your eyeshadow--my favorite color)!  Glad to see you posting pics again! 🙂

@sarithor:  Looking forward to having you back doing the challenges and posting your pics!  They are always inspiring! 🙂

Re: New CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK THREAD

I am looking forward to this weeks 2 different colors together challenge!  I sort of failed last week, I used that Smashbox lipstain that I got but was disappointed because the balm is nearly gone and I have to hunt around for some Lip Smackers to put over it to keep my lips from drying out. I have some Benetint but it isn't a good look for me, it makes me look totally unnatural with overly red lips. I still haven't found a lipstain I like or don't think is a poor value because the balm is so skimpy. I have a drugstore lipstain someplace but I can't find it.

Tomorrow I think I will try brown and peach shadow together!  I only wear neutrals together normally, and haven't worn this peach yet, so we will see....

Re: New CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK THREAD

@tenngal & prettyinpa: thanks for the compliments, ladies!  I think tomorrow I will try and do pink and blue together. I have a blue that perfectly matches my scrubs, and a light sheer shimmery pink will go well with that I think!

Those are great NaturalBeauty! And some very daring!  My niece & nephew are coming to the shore today and 2moro (I'm on vacation in OC,NJ) and maybe one of them can teach me a way to get pictures online with my phone without a chord or anything.

Good Job!!!

Re: New CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK THREAD

I'm really excited about these challenges.  Since next week is lipstain week, I'll share some things I've learned:

1. CoverGirl: don't bother, neither the color nor the supply last very long.  I had to go through many apply/let dry/reapply do-loops to get any color to my lips at all.  FWIW, I'm so fair-skinned that I always buy the lightest shade of foundation in any line. The marker container is a good idea but the plush pen tip got mashed down and I couldn't get it fixed.  Either spend more on the good stuff from Sephora or see #5 below.

2. Benefit: the grandmamma of them all.  I found the applicator difficult and ended up decanting into a rollerball and was much pleased.  Lovely color and a sweet, gentle rose scent.  However, the scent of rose on my lips seemed a little strange.  I suppose I'm conditioned to lippies that smell of mint or fruit.  Watery texture takes a bit getting used to, but with practice (and the new delivery system) easy to use and very effective.  If you're new to this product, don't give up on the first try.  It doesn't take long to master putting it on your cheeks--it was the lips I had trouble with.  Buildable cover.

3. Lorac: A bit darker than Benefit, smells fruity. In a rollerball container (inspired my idea for #2). The texture is watery like Benetint.  The same sort of tint, just more intense.  If you're annoyed having to build up the intensity of Benefit, try Lorac.  It's more highly pigmented.

4. Tarte: I got the dual-ended lipgloss with stain at one end and plumper on the other, and I really like it.  If you're new to lipstains, this might be the easiest to apply, because it is more of a gel texture than watery, and it is applied with a doe foot like most other glosses.  Buildable color.  Watch out for the plumper--it's REALLY intense and some may find it irritating (but Carmex at night fixes that problem.)

5. Red food coloring from the grocery store (look near cake baking supplies): What???  You're kidding, right? No.  This was a wild tear I got on.  I was annoyed with my CoverGirl stain, and got to thinking about the strongest stains I'd known.  The ones that didn't come out.  And then the proverbial lightbulb over my head went on.  How many times had I heard my mother remind us NOT to drink the red Kool-Aid in the living room (with light beige carpet--what was she thinking)???  The refrain of my childhood, 'you're not taking that in the living room, are you?'  So I started experimenting with red foods--sugar free cherry Kool-Aid, Jello, canned beets, and finally the red food coloring.  A bit tricky in the application--try using a q-tip--but very effective and cheap, cheap, cheap.  One caution: brush your teeth VERY thoroughly before applying.  If it gets in your mouth at all it will stain any stickiness on your teeth pink.  Turns out that those little plaque-revealing tablets the dentists used on us as kids are made from the same stuff.  (And remember how the little boys got teased when they returned to class from the dentist? "Are you wearing lipstick???")

Benefit sells a lip version -1 side benetint and 1 side clear lip gloss.  http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P127208&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5333

Re: New CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK THREAD

@maggy: Hehehe, food coloring!! I did it with the green for Halloween once, and it does stay pretty long!!! But I have to disagree with you on the Tarte one: I hated the smell of mine, and it didn't stay long at all (30 min tops!)
