January No Buy

I'm in for the win. Who's with me?

I am! (or will try) Smiley Wink

Re: January No Buy

I would, but I've already purchased quite a bit of stuff this month. Granted, a lot of it is stuff I need (like a new sports bra), and it's my treat for making the president's honor list last semester. And I still need to buy some want/need hybrids too.

I'm on a no-buy for junk food though, because I buy too much of it and I fell into the "overweight" category recently. It's only by a couple of pounds, but I know how fast those "couple of pounds" multiply so I want to stop it from spreading into an epidemic.

Re: January No Buy

How funny- one of my New Year's resolutions is to budget better.  To kick off the New Year, I am trying (and I emphasize the word try because it will be very hard for me) to not shop for myself the entire month of January.  I have made it 5 days and have even been to stores and not bought anything for myself yet.

The only problem is that I am in Sephora all the time and there are so many new amazing products out that I do not want to miss out on.  I am just hoping they don't sell out before this month is over.  February 1st will be my Sephora shopping day (unless I break down...)  There are also some lip liners on sale for $3 and one of the colors I love (Sienna- a great red lip liner).  They are being discontinued, so I may break down and get one or two before they are gone.

All in all, if I can keep spending to a minimum, I will feel successful.  I am also including not splurging on $4 cup of coffee or lunches when they are not necessary.  This means making coffee in the morning and bringing it on the go, and taking lunches and snacks with me to work or when I am out and about.

I'll check back at the end of the month and see how I did...would love to hear your experiences too!

xoxo

Jill

Re: January No Buy

I would say that I'm in...but I already know that I'm going to fold within the next few days! There's a maxi dress that I have been eyeing, and I know I'm going to indulge. Not to mention the fact that I'm running super low on concealer. Maybe I can make it up by doing both purchases in one day and then going spend-free for a single day in February.

Jill I'm in a similar boat! Purchasing a latte every morning has become a morning ritual for me, but with all of the fancy coffee creamers on the market these days replicating drink favorites is relatively easy. I do want to start cooking more in 2012 too, I'm good cook but more often than not I find it so much easier to just purchase my lunches. I have a really cute lunch set that has enough containers for snacks and a main entree, so I really don't have an excuse.

Whimsically yours,
Janine

Re: January No Buy

I am definitely with you!  I went a little overboard with holiday sales, so no more for me til February.  Thanks for posting this!

Re: January No Buy

I'll be your cheering section. My birthday is today and I have already been soo bad. Plus I got a bunch of birthday money and I haven't gotten my Sephora Birthday present yet, so some of the birthday money is going for an online order. Maybe I can do partially January and the first week of February to make up for this month's lost time. Does that count?Smiley Very Happy

Re: January No Buy

@prettyinpa: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Smiley Very Happy Smiley Very Happy Hope you do something nice for yourself!

Re: January No Buy

Happy birthday prettyinpa! I'm with you on the no buy since I was just told that I didn't make VIB since I purchased my last little bit I needed to make in Jan 3rd. I thought it was a year from when you signed up, not a calendar year. I mean I just signed up during the VIB friends and family event in November, and I had spent $326 in 2 months, but made that last purchase jan 3rd. I went to a store and they informed me it is a calendar year not my year. So I'm deflated and plan to save up for a little while.

Oh my gosh, Happy Birthday! When you get your bday present can you tell us if it is different than last year, or is it still philosophy?

Oh ya, I'm on the no buy as well.

~~We are all beautiful~~

Re: January No Buy

@berniebeauty: They change it every year -- this year it's a mini lip treatment set (I think of 2) from Fresh.

Re: January No Buy

Happy Belated Birthday, PrettyinPA!!! I hope you had a great day Smiley Very Happy

I would say I'm in...but I'd be lying. I am running out of a lot of things and don't think I'd make it to February. Also my immediate family was pretty broke Nov-Dec and decided to celebrate Christmas a month late, so I have a few gifts to get! I will be cheering with the birthday girl though! Smiley Wink

Re: January No Buy

Thanks to all of you for the birthday cheer, it feels great to have so many good wishes!

I had a great day shopping and I went to the National Aquarium in Baltimore- it was really beautiful and educational as well.

And what if you're a man ??

Re: January No Buy

@antoine- They are giving an Anthony Logistics Birthday gift for men, it looks like a Glycolic Face Wash. (The picture in the birthday email is small, but I think that's what the label says).

Re: January No Buy

@antoine: As prettyinpa stated, they always have a separate gift for men. However, my own had the picture of the Fresh balms on it, so that's all the information I had.

Re: January No Buy

i think i'll have to join the january no-buy (even though the $8 left on my sephora gift card is freaking me out! lol)

i really have enough products to last forever and at the rate i'm using them, i will NEVER finish. (time to get back on the 10-pan and rotation... hmm)

i just put together a nice shopping basket on the bobbibrown website (plus they have a great gwp!) and then my bf looked at me and said do you really have $100 to spend on makeup right now? I groaned, cause obviously he's right... i'm having such a tough time with my student loan payments + i'm saving up for a DSLR. ahhhh

Have a Happy Birthday and a wonderful year!Smiley Happy

Re: January No Buy

A no buy in January ?  Sounds like a plan.  Already cleaned out some old makeup that is probably hazardous to apply (ancient).
