Home Remedies.

Hey I was curious what home remedies people use? I make my own body scrub. All it is is Epsom salt and some type of Oil. I'm currently using Grapeseed Oil cause it has a lot of Vitamin E and other great things. But you can use olive oil, rose oil, and any other can you can find. Sometimes I add some dry lavender as well. Real easy and real cheap. I also use Epsom salt to soak my feet in warm water.

Re: Home Remedies.

I like to make a homemade lip scrub. I just use a few tsps of olive oil and some brown sugar. You dip a toothbrush in the olive oil and proceed to dip the toothbrush in the brown sugar. Then you just scrub your lips and enjoy how smooth and sweet they are.

Re: Home Remedies.

I do my own Fruit Facials every Friday.

Re: Home Remedies.

I've made my own bath bombs! Mix 2 parts baking soda, 2 part citric acid powder, 1 part cornstarch, 1 part light oil (like almond) and add in essential oils or any other ingredients and set in molds overnight. Let air dry one day. I had a silicone icecube tray with heart shapes that worked very well. These will go off though, so don't leave them too long, use within 1 month.

Yogurt and honey masks are always great. You can add all kinds of ingredients depending on what you want. Mashed bananas, cocoa powder, grated cucumber, oatmeal, etc.

Tea is a great way to incorporate properties from dried ingredients. Camomile, mint and jasmine can all impart benefits.

Sugar scrubs are very easy to make and much cheaper than buying in the store. A batch should last 2-6 weeks depending on what you put in it. The basic is 4 parts sugar to 1 part light oil and then anything else you want to add.

Rice water toner is nice too. Just save the rice water when rinsing out rice to cook. Make sure it's organic ๐Ÿ™‚

For conditioning hair, mix egg yolks, olive oil, lemon juice and any appropriate essential oils. It's basically a modified mayo. Slowly blend oil into yolk whisking briskly.

Re: Home Remedies.

I frequently flatiron my naturally wavy, long, hair. So, I have concerns about frizz and splitends and dryness. I just cut my hair a month ago, my length hits my mid back. I found a new, amazingly knowlegeable hair stylist. She told me about the wonders of coconut oil. For years, I've been using coconut oil as a skin moisturizer on dry skin (I'm Filipino, its very commonly used in various Asian Cultures), it never occurred to me to use it as a deep hair conditioning treatment.

First, make sure to use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Regular coconut oil is processed in a way that removes a lot of essential nutrients. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil comes in a jar as a solid (about the size of mayonaisse). You can purchase this at any natural/organic market, or Asian grocery store. It melts when it comes into contact with your hand. Before using as a deep condtitioning treatment, make sure you have enough time to leave it on. The longer you leave it, the softer your hair will be. Also,  If you have issues with a dry scalp, you can use this on your scalp to give moisture (Then use shampoo to wash it all out). As a deep conditioning treatment spread all over your hair and scalp (unless you normally have an oily scalp) and leave it on for anywhere from 1 hour to overnight. Cover hair with a shower cap. After leaving it on for a long time, shampoo you hair to get it all off. Then go on and do your normal hair washing routine. You'll have super soft conditioned hair Woman Surprised I do this once a week

Also, if you find that your hair ends are dry or have split ends then take some Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and put a small amount on your ends. Avoid adding to your roots to avoid an oily mess. I use this the way I'd use a finishing pomade. It keeps my hair looking shiny and healthy. I've gotten compliments doing this Woman Happy

@jadorezrg I'm definitely going to try that!  Thanks for the tip!

Ahh... I wish I could do that!!! Tomatoes are my skins and well...stomach's enemy. I use to work at a pizza place in high school and I started noticing after awhile my skin was breaking out in hives so bad that they would crack and bleed.. So, I wasn't allowed to make pizza anymore and my skin got better. Then since I worked there all the time, I ate a lot of pizza (which you would be surprised that actually lost weight there and not gained, but I think its cause its soo hot in the kitchen and you run around like a chicken with its head cut off when its busy) and everytime I ate a piece of pizza I would get the worst heartburn, plus other gross symptoms that deal with me being in the bathroom frequently.

Then one day I had the WORST heart burn it had been going on for over 24 hours.. I couldn't take it anymore and I went to the doctors. He asked me about what I had been eating and I told all I had was some pizza... since I was there I also started telling him about the hives I get sometimes. Turns out I've been allergic to tomatoes!!! I told my mom and she replies " Oh, that makes since, when you were a baby and I fed you spaghetti, you would break out in hives around your mouth with the sauce got on you." But it never dawned on her I was allergic?? or to even bother to tell me haha. I never knew cause I don't like raw tomatoes.. and before I worked there, I really didn't eat spaghetti sauce or tomato sauce that often.

I guess its the acid in the tomatoes. I've had other problems where I used a natural face wash, not knowing it had tomatoes in it, and I broke out with acne really bad. That took me 3 weeks to figure out.

I'm also allergic to Strawberries. I knew about that since I was little, but what I didn't know is that people who are allergic to Strawberries or have an intolerance to them,  are more likely to be allergic or have an intolerance to tomatoes as well... fun fact! haha.

Re: Home Remedies.

Great ideas, ladies! Does anybody have any ideas for a home made makeup setting spray?

Re: Home Remedies.

I make my own toner. I buy a bottle of witch hazel from target (its sold in the first aid section of any drugstore) then I place 10-15 drops of tea tree oil into 8 oz of witch hazel (basically fill a bottle half-way) and I place it in a spritz bottle. You have to shake it up before each use. That's how simple tea tree oil toner is to make. I have combo acne prone skin. I've been looking for natural remedies and this was a simple one. Witch hazel is found in many toners, its an antiseptic and great for acne because it doesn't dry out skin the way alcohol does (it helps control oil levels in skin and kills bacteria in pores). It also minimizes the appearance of pores. Fair warning though some people may find the smell of witch hazel to be overwhelming. So tea tree oil will tone down the smell of it giving it a eucalyptus sorta smell. Also, adding a few drops of peppermint oil to it will make it smell minty. Peppermint oil is also great at treating acne because it helps to reduce inflamation of the skin. With any essential oil, be careful not too add too much because the small drops are potent.

The tea tree oil is a great spot treatment for acne also. Just dab onto your pimple, works the same as putting benzoyl peroxide on a pimple, it just takes a bit longer for the tea tree oil to get rid of it. Plus there's so many other uses for it. If you have dandruff, you can add a few drops to your shampoo (then shake the bottle up before using) and that'll help treat the scalp. Paul Mitchell makes a tea tree oil shampoo that treats irritated scalps. You can easily make your own at home for at least half the cost!

@jadorezrg -- I'm totally going to try your DIY toner!

Re: Home Remedies.

I have soooo many home remedies I use. I'll try to list some of them down below:

1. I make an at home facial lotion using 1 tbs natural honey, 1 tbs natural yogurt, and 1 tps extra virgin olive oil. Heat up the oil and the honey in the microwave for a few seconds, until it gets a little runny and mix it well. After it has cooled a little, mix in the yogurt and smoothe it over your face. Leave it on for 15-30 minutes. Rinse it off of your face and use a facial moistuzier. I like to use this method once or twice a week, occasionally 3 if my face if very dry.

2. I use honey with a tiny bit of lemon on the darker pigmentation around my mouth and leave it on for about 20 minutes, it instantley lightens it!

3. Every other/once a week I heat up 1/2 of olive oil for about 20 sec, and then apply it to my hair (everywhere but the roots!). I leave it in a shower cap for 30 minutes, and then rinse it out in the shower. This makes my hair super soft and shiny.

4. I don't know if this counts, but in the morning to get rid of my bags underneath my eyes, I place a spoon in the freezer for about 2 minutes, and let them sit on my eyes for about 8 minutes.

5. I also like to heat up some natural and organic honey in the microwave and apply it to my face for about 15-30 minutes, and then rinse it off. This makes my skin super soft and glowey!

These are only a couple of my homemade remedies. Email me if you want more :)!

One more tip:

Mix a little bit of your face wash with some brown sugar. This makes a great at home, simple and cleansing exfoliante!

Re: Home Remedies.

I've recently been making an amazing scrub with brown sugar, honey, and lemon scented olive oil.  It's got enough grit to smooth my skin, and leaves it moisturized and beautiful.

Re: Home Remedies.

For #1, instead of facial lotion, I mean face mask.

So sorry about the mistake!

Re: Home Remedies.

you can buy willow bark or tea tree from the store and make your own spot acne treatment.

also, don't forget to exfoliate your lips! And since they need exfoliating more often than the rest of your face, you can also use a toothbrush after you brush your teeth to gently scrub away dead skin. ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Home Remedies.

I've been doing a lemon juice & sugar facial scrub twice a week.  It's great because the lemon kills the germs and the sugar exfoliates.  Plus it smells and tastes great.  All for less than $1.
