Friendly Beauty Talk Reminder

Hello all! I just wanted to follow up and give a quick reminder for our Beauty Talk guidelines and requests with our posts and private messages.

Respect for all is one of our top Sephora values that is practiced in our stores, offices and througout Beauty Talk. It extends towards respect for other users, our community experts, moderators and Sephora Pro's and is a value we take pride in and take very seriously.

Everyone is free to disagree but please play nice and respect the opinions and thoughts of those around you to prevent any futher or future hostility and to keep Beauty Talk the fun and welcoming community that we aim for.

Should you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to myself or any other moderators  (Keely, Janine, Melissa or Mia) and we will do our best to assist you!

For futher reference you can review the guidelines for Beauty Talk at the link below:

Welcome to Sephora’s BeautyTalk

Welcome to BeautyTalk! Here, you can ask for advice, chat about your beauty experiences, and exchange ideas, tips, information, and techniques with fellow Sephora addicts.

To participate in the BeautyTalk community, all you need to do is be a registered user of Sephora.com. It’s totally free and easy, we promise.

When interacting on BeautyTalk, please follow our User Guidelines, Sephora Terms of Use, and the Sephora Privacy Policy, all of which are available here for reference. (Basically, it just says to play nice.) A heads up: We can modify them at anytime without notice, so be sure you keep up-to-date.

What is BeautyTalk and how does it work?

BeautyTalk is an online community. It is a place for discussion, asking questions, and sharing experiences. Users can post questions and answers to problems they have been encountering, search for advice, and even talk about their favorite subject with others that share the same interests.

A little forums history: Because online communities feature questions, answers and feedback provided by their own users, they are unique knowledge hotspots that have the potential to reach hundreds and thousands of people at any given time.

While anyone can search the Beauty Talk for information, only registered users can post new questions, answers, or comments. Additionally, members can track discussions and even receive notifications whenever new posts are made.

Keep the following common-sense rules when participating in Beauty Talk discussions.

Be nice. Sephora’s Beauty Talk involves participants with a wide range of beliefs and ideas about the subjects they’re discussing. We encourage an open dialogue, but require that participants remain courteous and respectful at all times. Please avoid any language that is abusive, intimidating, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable. This also includes having a tone that is consistently critical, derogatory, or otherwise negative. If we see any of the above, we will exercise our right to edit or remove any post that violates these guidelines. We can also limit or suspend the access of any participant who violates these guidelines.

Have good netiquette. When posting messages, please remember that the people who read them sometimes can’t tell what you meant to say or how you intended to say it. Avoid “screaming” your thoughts in ALL CAPITAL letters. And remember that people that may not know you will read your comments. If you think your comments could be misinterpreted, they probably will be. If you think someone has misunderstood you, or has challenged your position, address it calmly in a non-threatening manner. Your moderator will be able to help, but it’s always best for the participants to work it out. Keep the peace!

**Additionally, while we do not set formal limits on how much you can post, voluminous posting—whether in terms of number of posts or their length—can majorly interfere with other conversations. There's room here for many points of view, so don't feel like you need to have the last word. **

What is my role in the online community?

Everyone is essential in an online community. Without you, there wouldn’t be a community. By visiting often (and participating) you not only add to the user-created knowledge base, but you also encourage others to do the same. (Trendsetter!) If you come with your toughest beauty issues, you’ll probably be able to find someone else that has the same problem or can point you in the right direction. Then if you’re able to find a solution that works for you, you can add your own insights and experience. Chances are that you may have an answer that someone else has been seeking. Everyone wins.

Remember that online communities should be fun, friendly, informative, and appropriate for everyone.

Privacy. BeautyTalk is a public forum widely accessible on the Internet. Whenever participating in any online community, always remember that what you post is viewable by the general public. Please do not post any confidential or potentially embarrassing information about yourself or anyone else. Posting someone else's confidential information will result in the termination of your access to these services. Information that you should never post includes the following:

  • Your full name
  • Your telephone number
  • Your mailing address
  • Your credit card number(s)
  • Your social security number
  • Your Beauty Insider number
  • Order numbers
  • Other receipt information
  • Personal email address

As a registered BeautyTalk user, you get to decide what content you include in your Profile, and who gets to see it. Please familiarize yourself with these settings, located in the “My Profile” area.

Best and worst practices

WE LOVE

WE DON’T LOVE

Using a descriptive title for your posts.

Using vague subject titles like “HELP!”

Reading other responses before posting.

Repeating information already provided.

Asking for clarification when necessary.

Making assumptions.

Contributing to the discussion.

Excessively quoting previous messages.

Focusing on your areas of beauty expertise.

Offering advice on unfamiliar topics.

Being as concise as possible.

Overwhelming readers with information.

Trying to use correct spelling and grammar.

Worrying if your spelling isn’t perfect.

Staying on topic.

Getting off topic.

Remaining positive.

Disparaging (insult) products or people.

Trying to understand opposing viewpoints.

Arguing with other posters.

Being friendly!

Using foul language or off-color humor.

No solicitation. Please do not use these forums to submit or publish any marketing communication, or to advertise or solicit for any business or enterprise. Direct links to other commercial websites are inappropriate for our BeautyTalk conversations. Those postings will be removed, and can result in the suspension of your access to these services.

Private Messages. As a registered user of BeautyTalk, you have access to our Private Messenger tool, which allows you to communicate with other users outside of the public message boards. Adding other users to your Friends List will make it easier to communicate with them. Adding users to your Ignore List will prevent their Private Messages from getting to you. Please note: Private Messages are subject to the same Guidelines and Terms of Use as the public message boards.

If you see something inappropriate. The participants themselves do the best monitoring of a community. If you see any offensive, abusive, or otherwise inappropriate content (including posts, pictures and videos), please click on the “Report Abuse to a Moderator” link that is attached to the message. Sephora.com will not discuss one user’s actions or account with any other user. That means we won’t tell the user who filed the report, but it also means we cannot tell you what action we’ve taken.

If your access is suspended. Violation of these User Guidelines or Terms of Use may result in the suspension or termination of your access to these services. If your account is suspended, you will not be able to sign in, but will instead receive a message indicating your account status.

Copyright and Intellectual Property rights. By participating in the BeautyTalk, you give Sephora.com the perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free right and license to use this content in this service or in the marketing of this service. Participants do not have the right to copy or redistribute the content of this service outside of the message boards. More details are available in the Sephora.com Terms of Use.

Re: Friendly Beauty Talk Reminder

As a request from a number of users that have reached out to us, we ask that you please refrain from the 2 following topics listed above in our Beauty Talk Guidelines:

1.Excessively quoting previous messages.

2. Overwhelming readers with information.

Which have been coming across as a concern for many users (both new and veteran) in requesting assistance.

We love to hear new tips and advice so passing off users to a previous thread or discussion in many of your postings is not much help as each of us are different and do require our own specific assistance and tips based on our unique skintypes and requests.

Remember to keep your tips and suggestions short and sweet! The briefer the post with your recommendations and why, the better response and assistance you are actually giving. 🙂
