BIC book club!

Some of us here have expressed an interest in a book club, myself, @mermadelove, @LCResz, @ZombieMetroAnt, @Mcakes. If you'd be interested in joining, reply below. My initial thought was to mail the books around but if it means that some people can't participate, then I'm all for dropping that requirement. I'd love this to be a place where we nominate our favorite book and others can read it and comment. Something fun for the new year!  ETA: the booklist:

Re: BIC book club!

That's one of my favorites from The Awkward Yeti! @ZombieMetroAnt

Re: BIC book club!

They had me at “YETI” @lmi82 😂😂😂

Re: BIC book club!

Lol @ZombieMetroAnt I am a sucker for murder mystery 🤡 Does it come in horror?

Re: BIC book club!

OH!  Smiley Surprised Not at all @fatimamummy...I love a good murder mystery!!

I just stay away from books that constructs a story based on fear with the intention to scare people (kinda like, Stephen King - "me no likey" Smiley Indifferent).

Re: BIC book club!

@ZombieMetroAnt Those books aren’t my cup of tea either.

Re: BIC book club!

Oh I’ve got a great Stephen King book suggestion that is more of a fairy tale than a horror story: The Eyes of the Dragon. It’s a fantasy novel that loosely ties into the Dark Tower universe. Lots of King’s Works are more psychological and fantasy driven than straight up horror. The movie adaptations amp up all the wrong details, I guess because translating the interior monologues of the characters is pretty tough to do on film.

Re: BIC book club!

@LCResz I read "The Eyes of the Dragon!"  I would never read some of his "horror" but you are right that this is fantasy/fairy tale.  Appeals to a good range of people.  I read he wrote if for his daughter, who didn't like his "scary" stuff 🙂

Re: BIC book club!

@LCResz It sounds interesting and would be my first Stephen king book that I may read all the way to the end 😄

Re: BIC book club!

Ooh that’s a good one @LCResz! That was the one he wrote so his kids could read something of his. I’ve always thought it would have made a good movie.

Re: BIC book club!

It’s one of my all-time favorites of his, along with The Stand and The Dead Zone @Beadshopgirl. His last few novels have felt very derivative of his early, better novels, but who am I kidding, I’ll fangirl him for as long as he keeps writing!

Re: BIC book club!

I’ve read it so many times @LCResz

Re: BIC book club!

You, @ZombieMetroAnt, don't read horror? We can all agree on how to select books, I've never done this before, so help is needed, for sure.

Re: BIC book club!

Can you believe it @prettyinpa?  it's all a facade!  i'm just a big chicken!  Smiley LOL

RE: BIC book club!

That’s a great idea! I tried joining a local book club thru meetup but scheduling is such a pain, and everyone is never free at one time, logistics, etc. Count me in! just curious, How will book titles be selected?

Re: RE: BIC book club!

@PalomaFoster- I'm not sure how to choose books, help me out here! I've only been in 1 book club and it fell apart when some of the ladies went to AA and the others couldn't drink at club and they got crabby.

Re: RE: BIC book club!

@prettyinpa

I think we should maybe take titles from different sources and then have a poll.

I think maybe take some recent popular titles from current events, some recent new york times best sellers and a few random suggestions from maybe a list we can share on google docs? We take one title from each 3 groups or if a title gets multiple mentions in our google sheet, we put it in the poll by default.

We vote on the narrowed down books, and alas we have our book. This I think seems like we might get a good variety of titles and keep things interesting. What do you think?

Oh lord! How wine and books and people mix is beyond me!  Alcohol and reading seem like things I would rather enjoy at completely different times and places with different people and I can only handle 2/3 at one time. lol. By myself I like wine and a raunchy book, cool. If I’m at a club with friends and drunk I don’t even know what a book is!!

Re: RE: BIC book club!

@prettyinpa  Yes, I've noticed that in person book clubs are often code for 'wine club!" MOst alcohol triggers massive migraines for me so I usually abstain!

I Love these genres for fiction in no particular order:

Historicals

Fantasy

Paranormal

Steam Punk

SciFi

Romance

Mystery

Any of these in crazy combination and am open to others, but I do not do true horror. The world is scary enough without adding that in my opinion. All I have to do for horror is watch the news!!

For Non fiction I like:

Science ( particularly cosmology and quantum physics)

Metaphysical/Esoteric Studies

Spirituality

I don't have a problem rereading books I love. I particularly love series books becuase I hate it when a good story ends!!!

Re: RE: BIC book club!

Oooh, it looks like we have similar book tastes, @mermadelove! I also love YA books. 🙂

Re: RE: BIC book club!

@lmi82  Oh good! I'm not the only weirdo then! LOL! ❤️

Re: BIC book club!

This is such a wonderful idea, I would love to join the book club @prettyinpa
