advice for beginners makeup

Any advice on what I should start out with tips on things I should and shouldn’t do. Product recommendations truly I know nothing about makeup and it’s embarrassing I’m 19. I want to learn how to do an every day kind of look any advice would be helpful I have combination skin and my face is a little red with a couple pimples. Any advice is helpful thank you.

RE: advice for beginners makeup

Hey girl as a beginner it might seem hard and it takes time to figure out what you like. Always remember to prep the skin with a moisturizer before. Hope this helps if you have any questions please reach out and ask. Recommendations : - For cleanser the Fresh soy cleanser is always amazing for all skin types. -Makeup Forever Ultra HD liquid foundation for a more natural look as it is medium coverage( and you get that no makeup not makeup look ) and great for all skin types. For a cheaper alternative try the Sephora collection foundation. -Laura Mercier translucent powder and you can pick up the small version of that. -Sephora collection blush and highlighter. -They’re Real mascara from Benefit for a natural lengthening look or Better then Sex mascara for a more voluminous false lash look. - Fenty lip gloss in glass slipper or fenty glow

Re: advice for beginners makeup

@meghan75 Glossier would be a great brand to start off with.  They're all about the no-makeup makeup look, so very subtle looks.  The products are all relatively inexpensive and they work really really well.  I wear makeup every day and I have a couple Glossier staples.  Good luck!

Glossier:

1.  Boy Brow - great for fast application, just swipe it on for a mess free enhancement of your brows; it doesn't stick to your skin like some other brow products, so you can really just quickly swipe it on

2.  Cloud paint - no fuss blush; a little goes a long way, so just dot a little on your cheeks and pat it in with your fingers

3.  Generation G lip stick - it's a matte lip, with a blotted look; the color is buildable though, so you can keep applying if you want the color to be a little bolder

4.  Protip eyeliner - really easy to use liquid eyeliner

RE: advice for beginners makeup

Meghan I am 38 and just now am starting out with skincare/makeup/hair, so please don’t ever feel silly or bad that your starting out at 19. I can use all the advice that I can get myself. I read the replies your post got and I’m taking that advice myself. Just start with neutrals and work from there. Good Luck to you! I wish I knew more and could give you my own advice but the wonderful ladies on here are awesome!

Re: advice for beginners makeup

Hi Meghan,

I hope you're doing well during this confinement time. This is probably the best time to try different things as we are stuck at home 🙂

I do know that biotherm  #aqua-source Aura Concentrate for a youth sensitive skin and juicebeauty. Ive used them both in my teens and 20's and absolutely loved them and helped my skin. For the acne Proactive is a very good way to get rid of them, it is safe to use it compared to other acne products out there.#Aquasource Aura Concentrate

for your daily natural makeup you don't need much make up but always remember to wear a spa sunscreen of 20-30 SPF.  A good product is a bb or cc tinted cream I love th one from Andalou but most companies make them.

Makeup

Face: no fondation as might irritate the acne. The BB or CC tinted cream will do the job to cover partially and protect your skin from the sun to prevent sun damage such as dark sports that will appear overtime.

Cheeks: Light pink or peach tone blush

eyes: mascara, eyeliner, and you can try a palette for the summer.

lips: a natural lip goss or a tinted clear lip stain... I love the one from Cristian Dior

I hope you like my advice and don't hesitate to ask me anything else.

Vanessa 🙂

Re: advice for beginners makeup

@meghan75  It's not embarrassing, so you shush. 😉

Start with simple, everyday looks, neutral colors etc. There are plenty of tutorials out there that might help you to learn about techniques & such. You will learn as you go, so don't worry. Just have fun exploring. 😉

Re: advice for beginners makeup

@meghan75 I was about your age when I started to really understand makeup on my own. Nothing to be embarrassed about! When I was first starting out, I was afraid to do too much, and I think that’s good advice for beginners. Less is more. You don’t have the skills yet to do really extreme or out there looks. You’ll get there if that’s what you’d like to do eventually, but until you are comfortable with tools, formulas, and techniques, stick with basic and go from there as you get better. Stay away from colors that are dark or harsh, once you nail looks with natural colors that are more forgiving you can play around all you want.

Here are some types of products I started out with, of course you don’t need to go with these, but since I can show you them directly from Sephora it might be more helpful. These are easy to use and wear, and will help build your confidence in using and wearing different products.

NATASHA DENONA - Mini Glam Eyeshadow Palette (or any 4-5 pan palette with neutral/natural colors)

CLINIQUE High Impact Volumizing Mascara Black (fave mascara still)

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil Perversion (tons of shade options and easy to use, it’s the liner I started with - eyeliner is a great way to introduce a pop of color in to a look if you aren’t comfortable using more colorful eyeshadows yet)

NARS - Blush (or any medium-firm pressed blush, stay away from loose, cream, or high pigment formulas as they are harder to use)

FRESH - Sugar Lip Balm Sunscreen SPF 15 (pick up a few shades of a tinted lip balm, they are more forgiving to use and easier to apply, and it will get you used to wearing color on your lips)

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Hot Chocolit (same idea as the tinted lip balm, lip glosses with some sparkle and sheer color are easier to wear)

bareMinerals Original Loose Talc-Free Powder Mineral Foundation SPF 15 Fair Ivory 02

BAREMINERALS - COMPLEXION RESCUE™ Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (I was super uncomfortable wearing foundation when I first started out, and I found both of these to be easy to use and forgiving - check out the “starter sets” they have that include a primer and brush)

That should get you started! As you begin to feel comfortable with basic, everyday looks and actually wearing make up, you can start exploring fuller coverage lip products, adding bronzer/highlight, expanding your eyeshadow collection, etc.

Re: advice for beginners makeup

@meghan75 I'd start with some everyday makeup video tutorials on YouTube. Try to find someone whose skin and features are similar to yours. Lisa Eldridge is an MUA so she uses lots of different models.

And don't be embarrassed about not knowing anything about makeup. I know women much older than you who do not wear any makeup 🙂
