I keep eyeing eye palettes looking for pink/grey shimmery looks not knowing if I really *need* them so today was about trying what I already have as part of my buying choices to create an icy pink look. I am also learning new eye tricks for shadow and liner on aging hooded eyes so continue to play with technique and figure out what works:
BASE: Iconic London Underglow Blurring Primer .9 oz / 27 mL + Westman Atelier Vital Skin Full Coverage Multi-Use Foundation Stick Atelier 0.5 + Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Brightening Concealer With Hyaluronic Acid Atelier L2
BLUSH: Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick Petal
EYESHADOW: Jones Road Eyeshadow in Cream + tarte Tartelette™ In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette 12 x 0.053 oz/ 1.5 g (learning to do crease just ABOVE my eye hood and not in it as my always hooded eyes get even more hooded) + Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze pink and white shades.
EYELINER: I started with Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner (learning to direct the tail of the outer eyeliner directly up instead of outwards and connecting it to the space 3/4 into eye). Didn't work so used the second darkest chocolate shade in the Tarte Palette to create my shape and then went over it with #Make Up For Ever Eye Pencil in dark brown. I'm still struggling with this one! Blending, applying, and correcting with my SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Eyeliner Brush #22 helps.
BROWS: Anastasia Beverly Hills Mini Brow Wiz® Ultra-Slim Precision Brow Pencil in Taupe.
HIGHLIGHTER: Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Face Architect Highlighter Champagne Glow + tarte glow tape™ highlighter pearl glow on upper cheekbones
LIPS: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner Icon Baby + Kosas Wet Lip Oil Plumping Peptide Lip Treatment Gloss Unbuttoned + Kosas Wet Lip Oil Plumping Peptide Lip Treatment Gloss Unhooked .
VERDICT: Yep, I'll need a different palette to get truly silvery, icy, pink tones - any recommendations are welcome - I'm currently considering NATASHA DENONA My Mini Dream Eyeshadow Palette if anyone has feedback. I'd love to know what your favorite dark brown eyeliner pencils are as well. Also, I think I am officially too old for this barrette but the part of me that wants to be Margot Tenenbaum just won't let go.
One of the looks I did with the Urban Decay Moondust Space Cowboy Glitter Eyeshadow Quad . It's super sparkly, I really like it so far. I would say the main difference between these and the Mario or the PT sparkles is that they are more opaque and the particles are larger so maybe not the most flattering on. It might also be that I applied too much. Two of the shades in the quad are a regular shimmer while the other two are just as sparkly (or more than) the original Space Cowboy. The camera has a hard time capturing the true shimmer value.
One of my first all day wears of the PATRICK TA Major Dimension Eye Illusion Eyeshadow Duo . I forgot to take a picture at the beginning of the day but this is after 7 hours. I didn't use a primer and didn't get much fallout on application or during the day. Excuse the weird angle, I was trying to capture the shimmer with my kitchen lighting. In person it is very glimmery, similar to the Mario palette but with a higher concentration of pearl and a better formula.
Today's look with the my other PATRICK TA Major Dimension Eye Illusion Eyeshadow Duo . I don't love the peach to pink shift on myself but I liked using the palette.
thanks @lmaster ! I've been mainly into neutrals lately as you can probably tell.
Beautiful looks! These shadows are so stunning on you! I love your outfits too. Beautiful pairing of makeup, you look lovely ☺️ @makeitup305
@makeitup305 your smile is radiant and your eyes are sparkling, lovely
@makeitup305 thank you so much for your overview of how the shadows compare. I think the Urban Decay looks so great with the lip color you wore with it but hear you on the size of the shimmer particles. I've been really curious about the Patrick Ta as well so it's great to get your take. Your eyeliner in looks 1 and 3 looks gorgeous by the way. What did you use?
@PDXXXX I think 1 was Victoria Beckham Cocoa and 3 was SEPHORA COLLECTION 12 Hour Contour Pencil Eyeliner 13 Tiramisu I think.
I've heard so many mixed reviews of Pat Ta's eyeshadow duo's, thank you for sharing your experience with them @makeitup305 🙏💕
@CynthieLu @PDXXXX I think people's main gripe with the PT shades is the price. I'm used to overspending on makeup so I'm used to it I guess lol It's pretty much the same as buying two Urban Decay 24/7 Moondust Glittery Eyeshadow or two of the Addiction Tokyo shades I like. The finish reminds me the most of PMG's baked Astral shades so to some people that might be worth it. It's not a "need" but I think they perform well. I love sparkly topper shades so I wanted them to compare to other products I have. I need to have a swatch party to really compare.
@makeitup305 I have the PATRICK TA Major Dimension III Matte Eyeshadow Palette and will say for me it's the best neutral palette I've ever found, one where I can wear every shade and worth the cost. I'm just not finding I like any of the colors in his other Palettes with a more sparkly finish enough to justify the cost. Urban Decay used to be my go-to for matte eye shadow singles or eyeliner I've just been so bummed some of my favorite shades have been discontinued: I really should check out the more shimmery options in their line. I'm still on the hunt for a good shimmer palette but in the meantime, I've been just using a lot of powder highlighters and things like Bobby Brown's shimmer brick to change the finish of my mattes. So far my favorite non-matte shadows are in the Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palettes - I wish they'd expand their shade selections a bit though...I only have one given they're not so cheap but the finishes and blendability are so good!
@PDXXXX for sparkley singles I like the Addiction Tokyo ones. They're $20 but their sparkle is really great and they've got tons of shades in sparkle/topper formulas as well as a bunch of others in different finishes. I recently purchesed Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palette 710 Over Brun and it's fantastic. I recommend that one if you want something a little warmer than Stora Dolls without going orange.
