Washing Makeup Brushes

Hi everyone!

Recently, I have been using my makeup brushes more than a sponge because I feel like like my base has a nicer finish with brushes.

Due to this, I have had to wash my makeup brushes more often. However, I noticed that washing them with face wash and water leads the glue to wash away and overall loosens it.

Any tips on how anyone washes it?

Thank you!

Re: Washing Makeup Brushes

In addition to what has been said, it's true, there are a ton of products out there for brush drying.  Yes, buying something that hangs them upside down is good; however what it really comes down to is how you wash them and where you lay them.  There are also other alternatives to using a more traditional brush soap.  I like Parian Spirit.  Cinema Secrets makes a good brush cleanser as well. These types of cleansers use food grade solvents to dissolve the product in your brushes.  All you have to do is pour some of the parian in a small jar and dip your makeup brush into the solution slightly before you hit the heel of the brush.  Then just take the brush and gently pass it over a paper towel.  Repeat until there is no more debris coming from the brush onto the towel.  Then just lay the brush flat. It dries within 30 seconds(depending on the density of the brush) and leaves your brushes smelling like fresh oranges(Parian Spirit and vanilla with Cinema Secrets).  Parian Spirit also makes brush wipes as well.  Just open a wipe and run your brush over the towel until there is no more debris and voila, all clean and smelling great.  If you want to try Parian Spirit here are some links(no, I do not work for this company).  Great stuff.  Some prefer Cinema Secrets brush cleaner; however, the vanilla scent is a bit too strong for me.  To each their own 🙂  Not sure if they sell Parian Spirit at Sephora.

With traditional brush soap and water, you want to make sure you hold the brush at a 45 degree angle and do your very best not to let any liquid get past the heel.  Once liquid goes past the heel, it doesn't matter if you have a contraption that hangs your brushes upside down, you've started the ticking time on the brush ferrule becoming  loose. If you choose the more traditional method(brush soap and water), just make sure you hold the brush angled downwards and use a towel to absorb and reshape.  Then just lay flat on a flat surface, no angled surfaces at all.

Re: Washing Makeup Brushes

@kizaaa , In addition to what's been said, make sure to wash only the brush head, like angle the brush to minimize water getting into the ferrule.  Getting a brush tree like@SportyGirly125 suggested really helps, and there are affordable options out there .

I also like to use a microfiber towel to remove as much moisture as possible.  Reduces the drying time for denser brushes and again, keeps the water away from the ferrule.

Re: Washing Makeup Brushes

@kizaaa there are lots of products made for cleaning makeup brushes.  I use Beautyblender solid cleaner.
