I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun. It's dress up for me, but make it adult.
This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya. 99% Zendaya.
The Fit- this can be your attire, or what has arisen from the Capsule Challenge, your makeup bag. Hair and fragrance "fits" count, too
The Fab - What you loved enough to be inspired by or loved the most about your look
The Face - the proooodduccctsss, so I can add to my loves list, y'all. Or a pic of your face
Note: posting your actual self is optional. Feel free to post pics or lists of what you included. This really is about seeing what others are doing and getting inspired to try or retry things.
Also feel free to cross post to existing threads (and browse)
Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025
What are you wearing in 2025??
@itsfi what?? Oh no, I've enabled you! I feel like as a trend they'll be much easier to pull off as it gets warmer with just matching tanks, tees, and sandals. I so want to see if you give in what they look like (or post a pic if you have one if you're on the fence)!
lol, yes, you have @PDXXXX! 😆 Barrel jeans are probably the one clothing item I'll allow myself on my no-spend / low buy, as I don't have anything like it in my closet. I'm eyeing an ankle length barrel pair - depending on whether it's a true ankle length on me, I can do a few shoe pairings. I have a few clothing pieces I can pair with it.
As I'm looking at the board, I'm sorta thinking the darker pair may go better with the various other pieces.
How did you pull that all so quickly @itsfi ?! I love how many outfits you thought of for a barrel look. I'm finding I really do like where mine fit right at the ankle in terms of low or high shoe options. I tried a pair that were more cropped as many are but didn't feel like I could pull them off. The color is suuuch a hard call. I feel like you could go either way with these outfit options. One thing I will say is going with rigid vs. non-rigid denim makes a difference as well if that helps inform your choice. I love how well you mapped this out!
@PDXXXX, I'm constantly saying to myself that I don't have anything to wear, or, that I don't have anything to wear with X. I could be standing in front of my closet or just out and about. I decided for spring/summer to pick out a few staples of mine and create a bunch of different looks on a white board with them. This way it's very hard for me to justify buying other pieces of clothing to go with any new <pair of jeans, dress, shoes, etc.> that I might pick up. When I thought about whether a pair of barrel jeans should be in my future, I told myself I needed to see which pieces (already in my closet) I would pair with them, both to justify making a purchase and also to keep me from picking up anything else. Ha! So I've sorta had the outfits put together, just waiting for a pair of barrel jeans that would be a good fit. I wear these mainly with other bottoms, including jeans and just decided to use them as a starting point. I'm trying to be better with not getting carried away with shopping.
You are the chicest homeless person, ever @PDXXXX
Random musings
@danielledanielle I am with you. After all of the wide-leg mania last year, I saw barrel jeans and was like - this is not going to last; we're going back to a straight or skinny vibe. The first ones I tried on were horseshoe shaped and I was thinking, "what idiot is going to wear these?" Yet here we are. I like look 5 too. Most likely this summer I'll be in a black tank and Nikes with these. Dunno though, we'll see what lands in my collection plate 😂
My phone died before I could add and edit, and perhaps that was for the best because I was a-ramblin' @PDXXXX 😶😂
I like the idea of black tank and Nikes, can I suggest a little skater girl action mixed with something classic?
YAASSS! @danielledanielle
Okay, 3 looks this week inspired by The Devil Wears Prada, inspired by who I would consider Anne Hathaway's peers in the film. I tried for a fourth, with another Miranda Priestly look (not a peer of Andy's), but it didn't happen this week. Another day.
Serena: A colleague of Andy's and colleague and friend of Emily.
The Fit:
More details on these beauties posted to Sephora Six - Fast & Furious Edition and Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025 Cliff Note's version: Tower 28 skin tint, Haus Labs concealer and Glossier Boy Brow have been staples in my collection since last year. Tower 28 gives a lovely flush of color while also blurring and setting. The Shu Uemura lash curler haaaad to be included in Serena's look because ...

Emily: Ahhh, Emily. Emily Blunt's Emily has a very unique look to her in the film. It's usually far more edgier (a different edgy than Jacqueline Follet) than I can confidently or comfortably pull off. The black and brown gingham dress she wears in the scene with Gisele Bundchen's Serena is one that would be most likely be something in my own closet, and her makeup here is one of her more understated looks which suits me better.

The Fab:
The Face:
Emily is the workaholic and she takes her job seriously! So, I figured she should have a mix of brands and some current "it" items, like the Fenty lip and Rare Beauty blush, which will make a future appearance on Spring Cheek Challenge 2025: Style Awakening - I'm still working on getting a better handle on working with it - it's cushiony, bouncy and velvety smooth. Fun, and fun to play with. More details on this group of makeup beauties at Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025
Lily: Tracie Thoms' Lily is one of Andy's friends outside of Runway Magazine. Andy is seen passing on to her products that Miranda receives from brands but doesn't want, including a Marc Jacobs bag.
The Fit
This is the look I have on now, about to head out the door to brunch. I have a feeling the shoes and the jacket are not quite the best for the weather. I'll brave it with the shoes and am grabbing a heavier coat to go over this jacket.

The Fab:
The Face:
A mix of oldies but goodies with some newness (MILK Hydro Grip Skin Tint) and more recent discoveries (Danessa Myricks Bronzite liner). More details in capsule challege.
I wouldn't even think of Lily for this, even tho Traci Thoms is fabulous. And I like how we're pretending Giselle isn't recognizable, but yeah, you keep finding fab fits in this casts, it's pretty cool @itsfi
Now I have to do an Emily look at some point, that winged liner!
I was going through the various characters and just thought, I have to somehow include Lily. And then she fit in the friend group so it became a done deal. She was in this show Cold Case and I remember thinking “hey, that’s the homicide detective from that show!”
lololol, Gisele Bundchen is in the movie too, you say? 😝 I saw an interview once where she said that when she finally agreed to do the movie, it was conditioned on her character not being a model because she already plays that role.
Yeeeeessss, you need to do a look inspired after Emily, @danielledanielle! She has some fun pieces and looks; she’s more bold than I am with both.
OMG @itsfi ; you could be a stylist, I swear! I love how you deconstructed each of these characters. I'm dying over your Farragamo wallet story - wanting something so specific and finding it marked down or at an outlet like you did is THE BEST. This is so great!
You’re too kind @PDXXXX; thank you. I still remember discovering that the wallet was on sale. They had (maybe they still do) a few days when some of their designer items would be marked down and I happened to be during that time. It may sound weird, but that adds even more value to it. 😊
I was inspired today reading @danielledanielle's words in her Spring Cheek Challenge 2025: Style Awakening, saying she has declared this her "year of using her pretty things."
I can't count the number of "pretty things" I've collected I treat like they're too precious for real life. And it made me think how often we have an excuse not to wear THAT THING or try THAT LOOK. "I"m too old..." "I'm not skinny enough..." "It will be too flamboyant..."
It brought me to this kind of punk rock "shut up" and do the thing mentality inspired by some of the Fab women I'll show below. And in the context of looking to the blush challenge how pretty can have an edge and not always run sweet as pie and also be ageless (something hitting hard this week as I just had my 45th birthday a few days ago). All of the above brought me to:
THE FIT:
An IRO Ivory/Gold tweed jacket I've never worn. This is the kind of thing I buy thinking I'll wear it with suit pants or dressed down with jeans. And then never wear because I'm scared to harm it in any way. My hair was already in a headband today, which reminded me of some of the icons I'll list below and combined with the blazer rather 60s in general. So I decided to push it high/low and pair it with a punchy tank, leggings, heels, and zebra bangle bracelet (which I've also never worn) to get out of the vanilla route that could have gone.
THE FAB:
Pretty, pretty punk. First, I thought of Edie Sedgwick (bottom right), as she made wearing black tights as bottoms popular, as photographed in the picture for Vogue (by the way, how audacious do you have to be to be, like, "Vogue wants to come interview me in my apartment stylist not included so I'm going to wear dance tights and a ragged tee shirt." She was perfection.
Above, we see Courtney Love depicted in a rather floral mode with a softness not expected of her. And at her side, Debby Harry who has made looks like this ageless.
Finally below, a work of art by Del Kathryn Barton who has a portfolio spanning years, juxtaposing feminine elements and bright colors in a way that may be over the top but never saccharine.
THE FACE:
This was a practice run for this week's cheek challenge, as I just read about "Champagne Cheeks" for Spring 2025. I'd already applied most of my makeup, so I did my blush by combing #Makeup by Mario Plumping Cream Blush Veil in Just Peach, Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight Mesmerize and Saie Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Multipurpose Illuminator . I also used Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Brightening Concealer With Hyaluronic Acid Atelier L1 as a matte highlight to carve things extending from the edges of my lip below my blush line and from the outer corner of my eye to my temple above the blush highlighter sandwich.
Yes to wearing the pretties @PDXXXX! That tweed jacket looks amazing on you! Love the cut of the collar on it. Happy belated birthday!
Thank you @itsfi ! Yes, I do love the color of that jacket. I went through a period where I was obsessed with finding a new IRO jacket on Poshmark or on sale and fell in love with that one. IRO is a little heavy on the shoulder pads but also cut really nicely for the shorter ladies. Now I just have to let it out of the house, lol.
You must take it out of the house, even if just down the street @PDXXXX; at least for the first outing. No need to wait for something to wear it to. Just wear it outside and let that be the event!! It looks fabulous on you!
@PDXXXX oh, how I love everything about this! You look absolutely fabulous, you are *rocking* this entire look! The pretty jacket, colorful top, black leggings combo, the cute headband, that peachy, glowy cheek look? Perfection! 😍
YYYYYYAAAASSSS @PDXXXX
This immediately gave me Debbie Harry, so to see you mention it after seeing your pic, it's *chef kiss* I always enjoy your walkthroughs. I am so glad you're joining in on using the pretties. You are wearing that tweed!
Another look inspired by The Devil Wears Prada; this time, Miranda Priestly. The first of 4.

The Face:
Makeup extracted from a larger capsule for the Week 14 makeup capsule challenge. Add-ons are the tor and sculpture (greys) shadows from ND Biba. In a nod to Meryl Streep's guest role in Only Murders In The Building in which Selena Gomez is one of the leads, I'm going with Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Liquid Blush Hope for a soft flush of color.
"That's all." ~ Miranda Priestly, The Devil Wears Prada
for now at least. 😉
