I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun.  It's dress up for me, but make it adult.

This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya.  99% Zendaya.

The Fit: The two toned blazer, RTR and these slouchy, but satiny joggers from BR and a gold leaf bracelet from (?) 🤷🏽‍♀️. I'm dressed for the cold, but comfy and cool 😎 at the office

The Fab: Cream and gold.  I do enjoy this pairing and the pop of black in the blazer worked better than I thought it would

The Face: Prada Dimensions Multi-Effect Refillable Eyeshadow Palette 09 Primula , baby!  This is also Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Chocolate Cherriez 2-Piece Lip Set + Pouch at work, werking

The Fit: Rodejber pants ( I keep wanting to put an extra 'e' and 'b' but alas, that's the spelling, I think?), Boss Jia blazer, Aerosoles multi toned loafers and oversized old lady glasses

The Fab: the accessories.  I didn't have the matching jacket, and I wanted to incorporate the blazer, but thought it would be too much or kind of Halloween-y because of the colorways? Somehow the shoes and the sunglasses make it come together

The Fit: Boss Dress meets Fenty Hair Scarf

The Fab: It's Candy Coated Coquette Pastel Version Week in the Cheek Challenge and I think I took it very literally, very seriously 😂... There's also a touch of Mad Men meets Old School flight attendant vibes here

The Face: Fenty's Undefeated is THAT GIRL. She's a little cool, a little neutral, never defeated. Mac's Grape Expectations pairs with this PERFECTLY.  Cheek combo is posted in Spring Cheek Challenge 2025: Style Awakening

Today I'm wearing a barrel jeans "now" version while looking at inspo for "later" as it warms up. I ended up going nautical on both, as one of my rules of thumb is to ground trendy pieces with classic touches. So stripes, boat shoes, anything beachy, and barrel need apply. What about you - are barrel jeans and pants on your try it or pass list and what's your favorite way to style them?

"NOW" FIT:

Inspired by a lot of volume layered on volume looks I've seen for colder days. Also, um, no matter how much J.Crew I wear I look 90s or homeless, lmao - thanks Mr. Cobain! Beanie: J. Crew; Cardigan: J. Crew; Tee: Marine Layer; Jeans: Pistola; Shoes: Seevees. I've also rolled up the jeans here to counterbalance the volume and show off the shoes.

Two secret weapons:

Miller et Bertaux "Oh, ooOoh...oh" is one of my top five favorite fragrances. It truly does smell like some undetectable wood I might only find smelling the inside of my guitars. A bit driftwoody. Like Mahogony with sea salt.

And, of course, my deceptively dainty Nora Kogan ring. It's great for days when I need a little fierceness. I usually turn it around so people can't see what it says. And then, if I'm having a moment open my palm, read it and exhale, lol. I got it around the time she came back out with her enamel rings. They don't make one that says this anymore and I'm hoping it stays that way.

THE FAB: LOOKING FORWARD TO BARRELS ON THE BEACH INSPO BOARD:

(1) My favorite look today - classic Jackie O. touches like the silk scarf, big glasses, and gold bracelets.The black t-shirt keeps it from going crazy, and she still worked in mesh flats. Ten out of ten, (2) The silk turban is reminiscent of my favorite look in number one and ties in a very classic and nautical striped shirt, (3)  A light house from my hometown that always makes me miss the beach, (4) A chunky gold bracelet now on sale at J.Crew for under $19 - I always associate a bracelet like this with nautical looks and don't know why, (5) & (6) Two looks I like for the interrum here before it gets really warm, (7) Barrels on the beach!!! (8) Classic Superga slip-ons, they stopped making them and I only have them in black, but I love Supergas - they're like the Italian Keds - and hope I'll have a pair to replace my Seevees someday, finally (9) My own nautical shirt by MOTHER I plan on wearing with these jeans once it warms up.

Kudos to you @PDXXXX! When I first saw the barrel jeans trend I thought I would just be wearing dresses all spring and summer. But you’ve nailed an elevated 90’s grunge vibe and made me a little more interested in barrel leg jeans (though I don’t think I’m ready to fit myself into the horseshoe style🧲). I love mixing in classics with trendier pieces and like the striped tee and boat shoes - you’ve got that casually cool and comfy vibe going on here. Great idea to roll up the jeans!! 

I like the look of 1 & 2 on your fab mood board. All the styles on your board make barrels look more approachable to me. 👍🏼 I'd proabably pair barrel jeans with kitten heels and/or sneakers and then style the top based on what shoe I was wearing with the jeans.

@itsfi I love the idea of styling them from the shoes up. I love look 1 as well - it has me needing to go through my tee shirts to see if I have a good staple black tee. Yeah, rolling them up seems so opposed to what you should do with a baggy jean on a shorter person but somehow it works with these. I was unsure but like it too.

@itsfi what?? Oh no, I've enabled you! I feel like as a trend they'll be much easier to pull off as it gets warmer with just matching tanks, tees, and sandals. I so want to see if you give in what they look like (or post a pic if you have one if you're on the fence)!

lol, yes, you have @PDXXXX! 😆 Barrel jeans are probably the one clothing item I'll allow myself on my no-spend / low buy, as I don't have anything like it in my closet. I'm eyeing an ankle length barrel pair - depending on whether it's a true ankle length on me, I can do a few shoe pairings. I have a few clothing pieces I can pair with it.

As I'm looking at the board, I'm sorta thinking the darker pair may go better with the various other pieces. 

• First column - light yellow cardigan + white ribbed tank + denim sandals
• Second column - green military style jacket + striped tee + Rothy's sneakers
• Third column - fitted brown (mine's darker than the one pictured) blazer + white sleeveless V-neck blouse + strappy heels
• Fourth column - black cashmere polo + loafers - it'd be fun with a cream-colored cropped trench but the ones I have are more oversized and that would make me look more boxy than I'd like

How did you pull that all so quickly @itsfi ?! I love how many outfits you thought of for a barrel look. I'm finding I really do like where mine fit right at the ankle in terms of low or high shoe options. I tried a pair that were more cropped as many are but didn't feel like I could pull them off. The color is suuuch a hard call. I feel like you could go either way with these outfit options. One thing I will say is going with rigid vs. non-rigid denim makes a difference as well if that helps inform your choice. I love how well you mapped this out!

@PDXXXX, I'm constantly saying to myself that I don't have anything to wear, or, that I don't have anything to wear with X. I could be standing in front of my closet or just out and about. I decided for spring/summer to pick out a few staples of mine and create a bunch of different looks on a white board with them. This way it's very hard for me to justify buying other pieces of clothing to go with any new <pair of jeans, dress, shoes, etc.> that I might pick up. When I thought about whether a pair of barrel jeans should be in my future, I told myself I needed to see which pieces (already in my closet) I would pair with them, both to justify making a purchase and also to keep me from picking up anything else. Ha! So I've sorta had the outfits put together, just waiting for a pair of barrel jeans that would be a good fit. I wear these mainly with other bottoms, including jeans and just decided to use them as a starting point. I'm trying to be better with not getting carried away with shopping.

Okay, yeah what is it with barrel jeans being something?  I have a pair that I got with a Cult Gaia X Gap collab, and that's it.  It's a matching set, and if I add anything, it's usually my Ami Colé bucket hat.  Very 90s, I suppose.

I think you're spot on twinning with 5 on your mood board.  But yeah, barrel jeans...🤷🏽‍♀️ I'm not sure if I'm pro or con, just wondering why they are everywhere now 🤔😶

Also, yes sailor details.  I think sailor kind lends itself to subtle androgyny, like wide leg or flared jeans, the stripes... And even a nice pair of boat shoes.   I remember getting a really decent pair of boat shoes from Old Navy, and yes, they were worn into the ground...to the ground.  They were a punchy orange red.

@danielledanielle I am with you. After all of the wide-leg mania last year, I saw barrel jeans and was like - this is not going to last; we're going back to a straight or skinny vibe. The first ones I tried on were horseshoe shaped and I was thinking, "what idiot is going to wear these?" Yet here we are. I like look 5 too. Most likely this summer I'll be in a black tank and Nikes with these. Dunno though, we'll see what lands in my collection plate 😂
