The Fit, The Fab and The Face: Outfit and Inspo Thread

I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun.  It's dress up for me, but make it adult.

This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya.  99% Zendaya.

The Fit- this can be your attire, or what has arisen from the Capsule Challenge, your makeup bag.  Hair and fragrance "fits" count, too


The Fab - What you loved enough to be inspired by or loved the most about your look


The Face - the proooodduccctsss, so I can add to my loves list, y'all. Or a pic of your face

Love a good suit @danielledanielle and you have more than one here! 😍 Brilliant way to pair the leopard print with red. I've used both more frequently as accent pieces but that first look?!!!! Wow! And, another wow for that red lip - gorge!!

@danielledanielle I love everything about the red look and monotone dressing right now and you look fabulous. The leopard is just the right accessory. And using a skirt as a scarf/blouse??? You're opening up a whole new world to me.

Yeah, a skirt as a top/blouse gets me some extra mileage every now and then, key is the tuck and whether or not there's a visible line in the pants.  This is the dress:

The bottom is more ruffled than it appears here, so I had to tuck most of it into the front, but it worked

And, we're back with The Devil Wears Prada - inspired outfits. This was yesterday's wear.

The Inspo:  

Jacqueline Follet from The Devil Wears Prada 

The Fit:

The character has minimal screen time, appearing in only a couple of scenes; I think it's just two? I used her look from both scenes as inspiration, trying to capture what I find to be a quintessential French flair that her character embodies. Classic, timeless pieces serve as the foundation to her style, with elements of edge and elegance effortlessly placed about. This is an attempt to capture that feel, with pieces I already have in my closet that fit with my own style and comfort level. 

- Black halter top with bow tie, Ann Taylor

- Black trousers, Banana Republic

- Skinny red belt, from an old dress

- Black and white Tweed blazer, Alice + Olivia - this is similar to the one I have, but mine has a teensy amount of fringe on the end of the sleeves and along the lapel. The collar on it is similar to the red blazer worn by the character at the luncheon scene near the end of the film.

- Christian Louboutin black suede pointy toe pumps, to tie-in a French designer and add a touch of red

- Mansur Gavriel mini cloud clutch, for an added, and more prominent pop of red

- Alexis Bittar bracelet, picked this up at one of their sidewalk sales

- Alexis Bittar Drippy Silver earrings, to give a modern and artsy edge to an otherwise classic look

If I did this look over again, I would swap out the red clutch for a black purse and the tweed blazer for a red jacket, maybe a faux leather jacket.

The Follicles: 

My hair cannot achieve such volume or shape, even with products, so the mullet was a no go. Went with an updo instead, held together with a flat claw clip.

⭐ the earrings - these earrings give off a vibe that is far more cool than I or my intrinsic style, but it can be fun to go outside your comfort zone every so often or incorporate something outside the norm.

The Face:

When we are first introduced to Jacqueline Follet in the film, she is the editor of the fictional French Runway magazine. I felt it was only fitting to use French beauty brands for the face. Details on the products can be found at Week 13 - Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

I had a lot of fun with this one @danielledanielle. I couldn’t find anything in my closet that was even remotely close to that ruffly blouse Jacqueline wears to the gala - it’s simple with its design and lines but such a showstopper. My top with a little ruffle to it was not anywhere near the league of that top. 😆

Awww, thank you @PrettyPaint. It's been a lot of fun finding ways to put together a certain look with things I already have, makeup-wise and wardrobe-wise. I only started getting into tweed blazers a few years ago; have always loved the look of them but started picking them up when I'd find one that caught my eye. This one is a nice neutral but still adds an extra flair. I have one that is more white/cream with mixes of black, blue and gold that I need to pull out and make an outfit of. It's nice that the jackets go well with basic black, of course. The earrings!!! They're one of those things where I was like "should I get them?" and I wasn't going to but then I tried them on and, well, here we are. Hahaha!

The weather was really nice the other day (today, less so) and I was able to get by with a few less layers. 

The Fit:

• Black thin-striped shirt - from amazon
• Mavi bootcut jeans - from Nordstrom
• Black Michael Kors trench - I love trench coats; I just love coats in general.
• Mango burgundy purse - I like the retro-feel of this handbag; it doesn't hurt either that it's roomy 👜
• Kendra Scott necklaces - if I'm remembering correctly, these were part of her collection for Target a couple of years ago
• Deep red/burgundy belt - I don't remember where this is from - either Target or I took it from a dress I have?
• Brother Vellies 3" block heel, ankle strap pumps (shade: Midnight) - the side slits at the bottom of the jeans actually do a nice job of allowing the detailing of the button on these shoes to show through a bit more than they otherwise would. 

The Fab:

• The heels - had my eye on these Brother Vellies for a while; these can be dressed up or down, and will be one of my go-to shoes this spring/summer and maybe early fall. 👠 

The Face:

• The pretties from Week 10 - Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge - the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Face Essentials Long-Lasting Full Face Cream Palette makes for a quick and easy face taking care of my face and cheek makeup, and lips too. PAT McGRATH LABS Mini Eye Shadow Palette: Midnight Voyage gets me my eyeshadow and eye liner. I went for a simpler, one-and-done shadow with a deep aubergine liner.

@itsfi I'm loving the whole look. I have been so curious about the Make Up Forever compact - how are you finding it?

Thank you @PDXXXX! I've been loving the Make Up For Ever compact, more so than I thought I would. I like the convenience and how multi-functioning it is - foundation, concealer (for redness, not so much blemishes or dark spots, that I use another concealer), blush, soft highlight, lip color, bronzer and eyeshadow. I do need a setting powder, but that's not a dealbreaker. It's great for quick and easy looks, on the go, etc. I'll be interested to see how it performs in the summer months. I picked it up last year but didn't really start using it until late last year / this year and so far, one of my favorite products. 👍 I'll try to swatch and take photos of it in natural light tomorrow.

The Fit: Big ol' BR coat on its last days with Grace Elayae slouchy hat and my big Square Ol' Rich Lady sunnies.

The Fab: This is the only winter coat I have that's long and not black/brown/gray. I should've taken better care of it, but I also lucked out and got a second (different fit) one, so I think knowing that made me reckless.  If you don't look too closely, it looks good 😂

The Face:  that lip is a full Ami Colé combo.  Ami Colé Desert Date Cream Blush & Lip Multistick Flame + Ami Colé Soft Shape Waterproof Lip Liner Petit Cola with Ami Colé Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil Romance 

The Fit underneath

 this is all RTR, I wish the cardi had pockets 😔, but the skirt does.  This was warm and chic.
