I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun.  It's dress up for me, but make it adult.

This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya.  99% Zendaya.

The Fit- this can be your attire, or what has arisen from the Capsule Challenge, your makeup bag.  Hair and fragrance "fits" count, too

I went with a feature film inspired capsule for Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025 this week, with The Devil Wears Prada as my movie inspo. I actually think I'm going to take inspiration from a few of the outfits from TDWP for future looks here. For the first one, it's one of the outfits from the makeover montage for Anne Hathaway's character. 

The Inspo:

I made some changes to better suit my style and what I have in my closet, as well as the weather.

The Function:

No special occasion, other than wanting to put together a look for this thread. 

The Fit:

• Long emerald-green single-breasted wool coat
• Oversized rectangular sunglasses
• Faux-leather gloves, from about 5+ years ago
• Plaid tights, inspired by a look our fabulous @heartsmyface posted last month
• Gold earrings
• Leopard-print infinity scarf that I found while unpacking; this was from years back. Leopard print reminds me of our marvelous @Mellmars1185 and Sephoria
• Knee-high boots with 3" block heel and a square-round toe - ha, the toe shape of my boots match my fingernail shape - that was not planned, but it's a different way to go about being matchy-matchy! 😅
• A-line black knit dress - it looks like short dress, but mine hits just above my knee because I'm a bit vertically challenged. 😉
• Black quilted purse - I've had this for at least a decade - it's roomy, holds a lot of papers, my water bottle, wallet, keys, phone, a small makeup bag, etc. and the padding on the handles keep it from digging into my shoulders

The Fab:

💚  The coat - The Loft, circa winter 2022. One of the best things about this piece is that I thought it was 40% off but it turned out it was 75% off. Needless to say, I revisited the rack to see if there might be another coat that called to me.

The Fingernails:

These are my natural nails, with 3 thin coats of OPI Bare My Soul. Base and top coats are Deborah Lippmann Hard Rock Nail-Strengthening Top & Base Coat. Went with a square round nail shape.

@itsfi What a wonderful outfit! I love your style. Pairing the paid tights and leopard peint scarf will add som fun layers and depth to the outfit. I wish I could put outfits together like this. Maybe it takes practice? Have you seen the movie before? Your nail polish is going to go so well with the outfit. It is such a great neutral that will go with other outfits also. The jacket is definitely the star of the show. What a great steal  deal you got on it!

(I also don’t have either in my wardrobe). But black boots and gloves? Ohhh, that I can do 😃 especially this time of the year.

Awww, you're so kind @Mellmars1185; thank you. You can totally put together an outfit like this; yours would be even more stylish! Of these pieces, my default would be to pair the dress, coat, boots, purse, sunglasses and gloves - those are items I would would wear together, with a sweater, for work. Adding the scarf, tights and earring are inspired by the outfit from the movie, you and hearts. Between this thread and the makeup capsules, I'm rotating through more things from my closet and makeup collection - it's been a lot of fun, and, at least with the clothes, takes me back to a time when I spent more time and thought into putting my outfits together. It's been nice. 

I've seen the movie a few times, though after the first couple of times, I just fast forward to certain scenes to look at the clothes. 😆

@itsfi Thank you 😊. I have been meaning to clean out my closet for a while now. I like being able to vision mixing and matching different pieces but i can't even see what I have 😆. Last week I worked on my makeup/skin care collection. Next up are the clothes.

It is great that the challenges are helping you! My goal this weekend is to get a capsule together for Monday. I miss participating!

I need to watch this movie now. I may I have seen in the past but I can't remember! It will be fun to see all of th fashion you mention!

@Mellmars1185, it’s fun to see what the fashion was and to mix it up and put a spin on it that makes it more you. I feel like I love so many of the coats in the movie! I love coats in general so that helps. 😆

Happy New Year everyone! I was pretty low key and chill last week with my clothing choices and didn't get to posting an outfit. I'm sure those looks will be repeated on multiple occasions during the year so I'll try to remember to post another time.

I was working on some more decluttering the other day and realized I have had a few brown pieces in my closet for a while, mostly staple items - coat, scarves and a handbag - and I’ve added a few additional items over the last 18 months. I don't usually put together a predominantly brown outfit but decided to go with a dark brown ensemble to pair with the mocha mousse inspired makeup theme a la this week’s theme for the Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025. And here we are!

The Fit: 

• Coat - this photo was the closest match I could find to my coat, which was by a local designer - it has brown buttons not black and hits me at the knee because I am vertically challenged. 😄 I found this at a cute boutique in Seattle, WA years ago, on sale! 
• Ann Taylor Loft (wait, maybe they've rebrandeed as just Loft?) Camisole (ecru) to layer under the sweater 
• C by Bloomingdale's Cashmere V neck sweater (heather oatmeal)
• Midi slip skirt (espresso brown) 
• Boots - faux suede slouchy knee high boot with a slighty pointed, slightly rounded toe, and a 3-inch block heel. I wish the zipper ran along though the entire length/height of the boot, but then it might not have the slouchly look to it.
• Fendi Spy Purse 
• Kendra Scott for Target layering necklaces - my recollection is that these pieces were from her second (?) collection for Target - they're usually hidden from view with the inclusion of the scarf but I'll occasionally  remove the scarf throughout the day.
• Oradina tricolor hoop earrings 
• Soft brown herringbone scarf

The Function: 

Mmmmm, it's .... Tuesday? I mean, it's Tuesday!! 😊 I don't have any specific occasion or event that I'm getting  dressed up for, other than I want to put my clothes to work, which I've been more inspired to do thanks to this thread - thank you @danielledanielle.

The Fab: 

• Cashmere v neck sweater - if I remember, I try to pick up one piece from this collection - some years, it's a scarf (for myself and others as gifts); some years, it's a sweater; others, it's a cardigan. 
• Handbag - steal, picked it up over a decade ago, from Bag, Borrow and Steal
• Earrings - the mix of gold, rose gold and silver makes it a versatile piece, as does the size and shape

The Face:

These were curated from a larger collection of makeup products for the week's mocha-mousse-inspired makeup capsule. Lemme know if you have questions about an item or would like swatches. This is probably what I'll wear most days this week, swapping out the lip product and adding the Danessa Myricks eyeliner or Byredo highlighter on different days during the week.

The Follicles: tryin' to keep the "f" theme going hair. 😅

Hair is styled half up, half down, held up with this clip.

The Fingernails: are not my natural nails - I wish! 

It's been a bit of a re-learning curve this morning to type out this post with these nails, which are imPress purefit press-on nails - length: short; design: Wake Up. Thanks goes to @sister13 for introducing me to the imPress press-ons. @ather, these come with the nail stickers already affixed to the back side of the press-on. I'll apply a nail hardener or base coat to my nails and let that dry before I apply the press-ons, for a little extra protection for my nails. The "short" length on these still give some good length.

@itsfi  I love this outfit. The jacket with the slip skirt. It goes together so perfectly! And the boots! Perfect for winter! A good cashmere sweater is a staple in the winter for sure!

I love how this weeks mocha inspired capsule works out to match this look! It’s like it was ment to be! 

And those nails are beautiful!! I bet having the sticker already attached is helpful! So smart to add the strengthening base coat so your nails aren’t getting damaged!

Thank you @ather; I've been having fun with this thread - it's been a great way for me to mix and match pieces I have and switch up my usual look, sometimes just by adding one or two items to the outfit I might not otherwise pair with it. It's similar to the makeup capsule in that regard. 

The press-ons have been a great something different to use every  once in a while working on growing my nails out. I'm still getting used to them - one popped off at night and ended up sticking to my blanket - hahahahaha! 🤣

What inspired me 💡 to create this look is Merit Cream Flush Balm Blush- Shade “Mood”. The shade is a burgundy color. Sadly, Merit announced “Mood’s” departure at the end of 2024 to incorporate new products. I’m very glad I got it at the right time and will be sure to make it last.

The Face

I’ve never done this, but I planned the face ahead of time to be very mindful about what I see fitting in with “Mood”
