I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun.  It's dress up for me, but make it adult.

This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya.  99% Zendaya.

The Fit- this can be your attire, or what has arisen from the Capsule Challenge, your makeup bag.  Hair and fragrance "fits" count, too


The Fab - What you loved enough to be inspired by or loved the most about your look

Ha I think I also have a knockoff of the Alexander MacQueen scarf somewhere in the depths of my closet- or were skull things and infinity scarves just super popular circa 2010ish?  Mine might be a knockoff of a knockoff.  

I LOVE the burgundy leather joggers!   And yes!  I love corsets cause they put some curves on me where there might not be any!

THE FIT & THE FAB: A.K.A. JAMES DEAN GOES TO THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE:

THE FIT: boat shoes by Superga, a classic breton lightweight knit shirt from Banana Republic, and a wool Burberry Trench I've had for about 10 years. This one is very much my everyday style which has heavy nods to the Beatnik and Mod eras and various 50's through 90's Icons.

THE FAB: James Dean and Beatnik style in general (top left). I'm a big fan of James Dean Films and his style, whether wearing a classic trench or the black double-breasted long coat he was often photographed in (similar to my coat pictured top right so you can better see the detail) or a breton shirt. Now, what is a breton shirt? The timeless, simple, striped shirt popularized by Coco Chanel you can see famously worn across generations in the lower right corner. It's been worn by everyone from Pablo Picasso to the Mods and artists of that generation like Andy Warhol and even been a staple of punk as worn on Kurt Cobain or Pete Doughtery of The Libertines. In a word...classic.

THE FACE: natural skin, light tones, natural cheeks and lips...I will crosspost on the What are you wearing today Pt2 thread. Hint: Dior Roswood.

And yes, this was truly just what I wore for a doctor's appointment today because doctors scare me and I like to look as fresh and clean without looking like I tried too hard to look fresh and clean as possible when I see them.

That coat/ jacket is made for you! I literally am so bad with clothing etiquette I don’t know what it’s called but it is so beautiful this look, I love the inspos behind the looks but you are the true inspo! Love getting to experience these and learn. Such a fantastic fit! @PDXXXX

@danielledanielle thank you. This could also could be titled, "how my stepgrandmother dresses" lol. I think we both showed up to an Easter Egg hunt wearing breton shirts this year. When I say I am all about 60's-90's fashion sometimes I think the age group applies as much as the decades 😂

The Fit

Okay, I realized I actually have 3 black dresses now. This one is a tweed fabric. It’s hard to tell in this photo tho. And I FINALLY got to break out my OTK boots. As much as I love summer, winter is an excuse to take these out. If anyone has any tricks to keeping them up this I’m all ears. 

The Fab

The inspiration behind this outfit is me browsing through Shein. It’s evil in so many ways. I did jazz it up a little with a petticoat to give it just a little more poof.

The Face

The one product I will highlight here is Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Icon The Fill Semi-Matte Refillable Lipstick The MVP. I had a sample of it lying around and put it to use. It passes the glass transfer test quite well! I’m tempted to buy one for myself.

@JoSometimes, black dresses are like lip products - the more the merrier! 😉

@JoSometimes  Ha, black dresses tend to multiply like that.  

oh for boots!  You can put rubber taping slightly above the widest part of your calf if you find they’re slipping too much.  You can find it at bike shops.  It’s generally sold to keep wider pant legs tight against your leg so they don’t get caught in the bike chain. The tape will slightly grab the boot and hold it in place.    Or wear thick socks and fold the top over to thicken things up even more where the boot wants to slouch.  
The boots you’re wearing though look like they’re designed to slouch so I’d just let them do their slouchy thing.

I'm so glad you posted the makeup look in the other thread as well @JoSometimes because I could really see how luxe the tweed looks, see your beautiful nails, and accessories. I love the whole view too. I die for anything tweed or fit and flare. Ugh, now you are tempting me to look at black tweed jackets and coats and making me want a long-sleeved or 3/4 sleeve, tweed swing dress too! Noooo...!

You look very "rawrr" interpret that anyway you wish.  Tagging @heartsmyface about the staying up hack for OTK, if she has/think of one.  I don't have one, as so I quietly long after these without having them. 

I love the MVP shade, noticed you tagged both Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick THE MVP and Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Icon The Fill Semi-Matte Refillable Lipstick The MVP ... I think you sampled the bullet, but letting you know to stick with the bullet.  The liquid is gorgeous, but extremely smeary.
