I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun. It's dress up for me, but make it adult.
This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya. 99% Zendaya.
The Fit- this can be your attire, or what has arisen from the Capsule Challenge, your makeup bag. Hair and fragrance "fits" count, too
The Fab - What you loved enough to be inspired by or loved the most about your look
The Face - the proooodduccctsss, so I can add to my loves list, y'all. Or a pic of your face
Note: posting your actual self is optional. Feel free to post pics or lists of what you included. This really is about seeing what others are doing and getting inspired to try or retry things.
Also feel free to cross post to existing threads (and browse)
Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025
What are you wearing in 2025??
@danielledanielle ooh, yes I'd love to hear your thoughts! Hope your Wednesday goes well!
Ok, so your other post I mentioned on how you got inspo from one item, so the barrette is doing that here, which 🤌🏽🤌🏽. You're spot on Margot!
I've been evaluating accessories and statement items (lipsticks, jackets, shoes , etc) as of late because there's sometimes an internal battle of more accessories or less accessories I go through. I feel like there's no right it wrong, just a particular fit for each individual that I'm discovering for myself.
HOWEVER, there is something to be said a singular accessory when we think about iconic looks and pieces that evolve from pop culture. I opted to do the Gucci Digital Event yesterday, which I hate the because it's 250 points - but it was a good one. Two of the presenters were rocking Gucci scarves which they relayed the story of Princess Grace! Which I never knew... When it comes to Gucci. Now, truth be told, I have no idea how accurate the story is, but they had me at that point - a scarf made for a princess, c'mon? Now, I suddenly want a Gucci scarf 🤣, but I don't think that's my iconic accessory. This is also what supposedly started the Gucci Flora line as well. Apparently the story is the son of Gucci shutdown shop one day since a princess was coming to town, and she asked him if they have any scarves, because she loved them. They didn't make scarves at the time, but if Grace Kelly wants a scarf, you made a scarf. Then people kept asking about the scarf and voila, Gucci now makes a scarf.
Then, we have Gwyneth and also to the extent, Wes Anderson, who have had stylistic impacts in movies/pop culture .I never really thought about how much this specific look influenced style. I feel like it still kind of has a hold/place as what we currently called clean girl, but some of the items used are high end.
ETA: I also appreciate your thoughts and also how the character has a mix of high end and I guess what we'd call fast fashion, or even thrift. I feel like my favorite outfits usually involve a mix in that way, like if 90% is Gap for me, then 10% being elsewhere keeps it interesting, not too generic/catalog.. Although to think of it, I have tried to recreate looks that way too, if I like it, but there's always that piece that's not like the others, whether it's hair, lip, shoes, etc.
Do you find inspo in pop culture or visual mediums, too? Or is it this centering you've described more often?
ETAA: your shoe choice is also calling me back to the late 90s/00s and it's just so so food for this look. I'm also looking at the sole and thinking, "are they comfy? I hope they are comfy.." because I love when fashion and function are working together.
@danielledanielle you have no idea how much I resonate with some of the things you're talking about here - I feel like I could easily spend an hour over coffee with you a week nerding out on the intersection of art, history, fashion, and the like!
Yes, I began as a painting major, have been a musician all my life, and have always loved learning about art, pop culture, and history's influence on fashion and design. Your reference to the influence of the royals on Parisian designers like Gucci and the history of scarves is so apropos and I had no idea about that. I am all about the romance, history, and nostalgia of accessories like that. You might like this article about other influential fashion houses and scarfs as well: https://www.divine-style-french-antiques.com/a-little-history-of-the-french-designer-silk-scarf/ They don't mention Givenchy but you got me looking at some of theirs and I can so see one like this one on you after seeing how well you styled a similar scarf in one of your looks:
I think of scarves in the history of gifting as well. For example, my former stepfather worked with Japanese clients who would visit us when I was young, and the wife would always bring us the most thoughtful gifts: for me, it might be something like piano sheet music or a traditional Kokeshi doll but for my mother, this was almost always a scarf. I love Japanese gifting culture. But, I also think bringing back souvenirs as gifts used to be more widely expected of any traveler. My mother had an entire collection of boxed scarves brought back by relatives who had traveled thrown in her basement: a popular gift in part because you could usually find them in the duty-free gift stores at airports. She never cared for them but I was enthralled and kept some I've since lost. Now you have me jonesing to track down a vintage one for myself!
I love what you said about the balance of accessories being a fit for each individual. I've always been a bit minimalist of the Coco Chanel school that said after accessorizing one should always remove one piece and that would lead to the right balance. Yet I'm in awe of people who pull off layered jewelry and a more maximalist approach. And, also a big fan of the sort of, "elegantly wasted" look associated with the 70's rock scene coming out of London with bands like the Rollings Stones and "it girls" like Nico, Marianne Faithful, Anita Pallenburg that frequented London boutiques with clothes heavily influenced by Morrocan textiles and nods to the Victorian Era.
When I think of Margot, I also think a lot of the more streamlined influence of Kate Moss and Calvin Klein in the 90's which does feel a bit Clean Girl to me, and also the return to a more gamine look with a nod to 60's models and socialites like Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick with even a bit of Eartha Kitt glam mixed in. The red hair barrette also recalls a bit of 90's Kinder Wh*re a'la Courtney Love, especially in the sense that in the film Margot has indeed been wearing the same outfit and accessories since she was a child. And I think given the release date of the film there's a slight Twee element coming from the indie pop music of that time and the popularization of the Manic Pixie Girl in general.
The loafers, ooft; I'm not usually a big fan of patent leather when it comes to comfort but they're getting better as I break them in. I have a pair of J. Crew driving shoes that are more similar to what Margot wears I got off Poshmark I could have gone with:
I only remembered I had them after getting dressed though and think that would have veered into cosplay territory anyway. Plus it rains here non-stop, lol, so I can only wear them when it gets drier out.
Not going to lie, totally found a red barrette to buy on the cheap on Amazon after this though 😂
Love this conversation and learning about what you got out of the Gucci scarf class. It just confirms the attention to detail and influences I've seen in your styling and makes me even more excited to see more of your looks!
Awww, thank you @PDXXXX
Going to read through that article, I'm already looking forward to our next discussion/nerd out
Ok....I had fun with this one:
The Entire Fit
The Fit: I'm psyched for my Cheek challenge this round
Cheek Challenge Winter 2024/25, The Frost, The Glitz and The Wardrobe So much I tried to paint my face green (it did not go well). But, definitely tried some Elphaba Throp/Wicked inspo makeup to go with....
The Fab: Another Thebe Magugu! Been waiting to wear both the jacket and pants. The color is an odd pea green, something is never really pick out on my own, but I have come to really like the stuff he has available on RTR. Also, while sorting through some things I came upon this belt (near its last days) and leopard boots. So, I put them all together for a safari chic look
The Face: Black and Green are Elphaba 's main colors, gold was from UD Honey palette, a discontinued but loved palette that was LE 2019. Brought it back forthis week'sCapsule Makeup Collection Challenge amongstanother gone too soon love, Uoma Beauty's B@d@$$ icon in Elaine which broke 🙃... The Uoma bullet's were prone to this, I think I have a back up, but that's my last one.
Fantastic, Fabulous, Fit!
The first photo is so elegant, poised, and I second what @itsfi mentioned, this is so beautiful.
I love the elements themes and how your fit speaks to all the fab! So neat! Amazing look! All the photos are the moment 🙌 @danielledanielle
@danielledanielle you are always so chic! I love the nods to leopard. You manage to be both very streamlined while adding eclectic touches, that's an art in my book!
High compliment! @PDXXXX , thank you, never thought of it as eclectic touches, but I like it!
@danielledanielle absolutely stunning 😲😍
Thank you @makeitup305 , coming from someone who I think is stunning [you], that's high praise
😍😘
😍😍😍
That first photo @danielledanielle!!!

Magazine cover worthy
Kudos to the model and the photographer! 💟
This one did not evolve in a particularly linear fashion. Mostly, I wanted to try on and build a face around my new Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Fenty Glow as I wasn't sure how the color would look applied. And it grew from there inspiring me to try this scarf with a more formal look (honestly I needed to check to see which of my dressier pants still fit right now, lol) and then leading me to a fragrance I haven't worn for a while.
Here are the star items in this look - the new Fenty Lip Luminizer (it's described as "shimmering rose nude" - I had not read the shade description before trying and really like how warm/nude/multidimensional it is), CB I HATE PERFUME Number 703 Fire From Heaven and a Pendelton Scarf I got some years back on sale (I live in the PNW - Pendelton is a THING for sure - the whole town is draped in it):
First I applied Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation 13 La Cienega, Fenty Beauty by Rihanna We're Even Hydrating Longwear Waterproof Concealer Light 110W, and the lip gloss to get a feel for the color palette. I added the mauve blush shade from Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette Dragon and wanted to keep my eyes simple by just doing eyeliner and mascara.
Here is the outfit with the makeup - the scarf is the star here but I also wanted to balance it with a wide leg echoing the drape and volume it has:
And that led me to search for a fragrance that felt as much like a Fall hug as the scarf. If you're not familiar with CB I HATE PERFUME they're amazing. And I always get an extra nostalgic vibe wearing their scents b/c I discovered them in this fantastic thrift store/boutique called Palace that went out of business with Covid filled with the best thrift clothes, incense, and fragrances that felt like a really chic friend's apartment. Here is how CB I HATE PERFUME describes Fire From Heaven:
All in all a fun way to have a Holiday look ready to pull and currently floating on a cloud smelling the perfume 🙂
I absolutely adore this look, fit, and description, the scent description is so cool to read. You look so cozy and I love the patterns on your scarf! So cute! Great look ❤️❤️ @PDXXXX
Thank you @peculiarzmakeup 🙂 It was really fun to rediscover that fragrance. I think the Fenty shade I used was made for you, by the way.
I love it I might have to get it that is so kind you are so sweet, truly! Thank you and love this, great look ❤️ @PDXXXX
Oh this is lovely @PDXXXX . I get formal, but this could also be dinner party/evening of with a friend. I love how the gloss informed the clothing, but then the look evolved into its on thing. That scarf is very pretty. I love giant scarves..
Thank you, @danielledanielle. The Fenty is a beautiful shade, and it was fun to work from one product's inspiration. I love big scarves as well, and I love how they can be dressed up or down. It was a fun way to build a look I can go to if I ever need to be dressier in a hurry.
I don’t really have a full size mirror so this is the closest I can get
I always wear leggings or sweatpants
I love these boots but they are small on me
but thought it was a fun vibe while the weather gets cooler.
I tend to wear a lot of comfy clothes in all about comfort In makeup and in fashion.
love seeing your looks, you all always inspire me 😊❤️
