Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

I once tripped down the stairs with fresh gel nails on and they ended up looking like this.  All is see here is PAIN!!!!  😖

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

@heartsmyface you were ahead of the times!  You trend-setter, you!  Heart

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

With my skill level I'd end up with nails that look like limestone not quartz.  Lol

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

@ZombieMetroAnt 😍 OMG I LOVE this! Will you come over and give me a Quartz manicure please? I'll let you squish my Pugs 😂😂😂

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Free toothpaste!  This was in RMN's email yesterday - I received a mini version in the last Target box & really like it!  Heart

@NancieNano is probably all over this but just in case LOL! Gotta keep my freebie junkies in the loop 😂

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Any suggestions for a treatment that helps thin peeling fingernails? I've given up wearing polish because it seems to make the problem worse.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Sometimes, I find that my nails actually need a break from polish. I found an awesome article about how to maintain healthy, natural nails here: https://www.peacefuldumpling.com/going-bare-tips-for-healthy-polish-free-nails

When I am taking a break, I swear by Deborah Lippmann's  Cuticle Oil. Dryness plays a huge part in the health/wellness of our nails.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

@angel7594 Sometimes, after a couple of months wearing polish everyday, my nails will start peeling like that. The only thing I found that helped me was to stop with the polish, keep them very short and rub oil (I usually use some sample that I don't want to put on my face or even coconut oil) on them, then a heavy moisturizer (I love the waxy consistency of the Dior one) over the oil every night before bed for as long as the peeling part takes to grow out. They new nails should come strong.

I took biotin a while ago even though my dermatologist discouraged me (she doesn't believe it makes a difference). It may or may not help but I think it doesn't hurt to try. I liked the one from Olly called Undeniable Beauty.

If after all that the new nails don't grow strong, you may want to see a specialist because it could easily be a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Good luck with your nails! Lord knows we gals need our claws 😄

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Thank you @DaintyDiva! ❤ I had forgotten about that Dior nail cream. I need to pick one up. 🙂

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

I've been having this problem lately and I will say that adding a hair, skin, and nails supplement has helped me a lot.  I, trying to remember what all the ingredients are... i think biotin and vitamin c.

I think it's made by Nature Made... there are some really expensive ones out there but I didn't notice any difference between the cheaper ones and the expensive ones.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

@angel7594 I had the same problem several years ago after I stopped wearing acrylics (ew, I know). The best advice I have is to stop wearing any nail polish and use a topical nail ointment. They need to breathe. Also take biotin and make adjustments to your diet if necessary to get more nutrients from food.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

@angel7594 Have you thought about taking Biotin? It's supposed to strengthen hair, skin and nails. Also, putting Vitamin E on your fingernails should also work.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Thank you @makeitup305, I will try this! 🙂

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

@angel7594 Let me know if it works! Also, my fingernails get really weak from washing dishes and cleaning so make sure to wear gloves for all that stuff, it really makes a difference, at least for me.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Great advice about the gloves, I need to do this as well. Thank you again! ❤

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

@angel7594 @makeitup305 @ZombieMetroAnt Angel I was just asking Zombie about this is she raves about the Biotin supplements too! And also @NancieNano told me she's been rubbing Squalene into her nail and nail beds and that it's helped her nails a ton!

I just started using Essie Millionails Treatment on the suggestion from someone here on BT, and it seems to be helping. I've only used it on two manicures but so far so good. It says it forms a fiber shield but it doesn't feel weird and uneven like the old-school formulas I'm used to. It's smooth! Good luck and let me know if you find anything else that works for you. My nails have been in rough shape the past few months.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Thank you @pixiedust2! ❤

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Anyone have a recommendation for natural toothpaste? Thx!

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Yes! Here's what I use:

I've been using it for several years and like it a lot. It's fluoride-free which I like, but may be a deal breaker for some. Regular toothpastes are too minty-strong for me and I choke on them. The mint in this is much milder and it tastes more Vanilla than mint.

Re: THE HAIR, NAILS AND BODY CARE THREAD

Thanks for the rec. @pixiedust2 🙂
