Show Me Your Declutters!

I received an order today with four new lipsticks,

(Lancome L'Absolue Lacquer...I will never ever stop mentioning these every-dang-where 😄😍)

but had absolutely no room for them in my containers. While the thought "buy more containers" crossed my mind for a brief second, I quickly dismissed it as I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with too much stuff. I'd been pulling out one or two here and there, but today was the big reckoning!Sorry I didn't stage a better pic, but that's 55 lip items that are now gloriously gone from my stash!Sorry I didn't stage a better pic, but that's 55 lip items that are now gloriously gone from my stash!

This is only the stuff I pulled today; I have a small train case packed full of the other lippies (and some palettes) that I've been slowly pulling over the last couple of months. Do I still have more I could get rid of? Yeah, most likely...if I was on the fence, I erred on the side of keeping it rather than tossing. And I didn't swatch every single keeper to weed out similar shades, so there's probably still a good bit of overlap in my berry-heavy collection. But my oh my, I feel soooo much better now. I found not only things I had forgotten about, but things I really had no clue I even owned in the first place 🤣

So...do you have too much too? Ready to clear up some space and salvage a little sanity? Share your declutters with us; we wanna see it!

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@ohheyitscindyk Yes you should, they look great on top of lipsticks too. The smell is super nice too. What I can suggest is than find a facebook page that's local that either do free stuff, or where they buy sell trade and even give away. I use a facebook group that's local to me, and I actually have a person that's coming to pick up some stuff today. I even have received some amazing stuff from that page, such as a brand new Murad blotting perfector. Also if that does not work, you can always donate, or even make little gift bags to give out to homeless people, since some products they would love to have too.

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

I donate almost all of my foils to a couple of local women's shelters, by default. I just toss them into a little shopping bag in my closet and drop it off whenever it's full.

Also, in many areas residents/recipients are disproportionately women of color, so if I'm ordering online I try to request complexion samples in deeper shades whenever they're available. One side bonus is it creates more demand, so manufacturers might make them more widely available. @ohheyitscindyk

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@fieldsofclover @ohheyitscindyk  I do the same over here, any and all random beauty samples/foils get donated to women's shelters/domestic violence centers. If specifically women's shelters don't accept samples, you might want to check just regular homeless/children's shelters too. The ones in my area are always looking for personal hygiene items (thinking specifically of all your hair samples).

Excellent declutter!

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@MissPuff Ahh thanks for the tip!

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@fieldsofclover I need to find a women's shelter near me that will accept samples. All the ones I've found so far only accept FS.

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

I found the one I mainly donate to by looking for dress-for-success programs around here... one runs a little "boutique" where women can pick out office-appropriate clothes, makeup, etc. for work or job interviews. They really appreciate the cosmetics and perfume samples in particular. @ohheyitscindyk

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@fieldsofclover Good idea, thanks!

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

Time to clear out a few more things. It's no massive pile of lippies, but the rest of my destashing activities will probably be in bits and pieces as I come across stuff to get rid of. 😊

Colored lip balms: these aren't "balmy" enough for my daily balm usage, and iake a mess with colored ones when I'm not paying attention anyways. If I'm heading out, I'd just as soon use a regular lipstick, so these are out.

Cleared out a few eyeliners. The twist up ones are too dry for my aging, wrinkly lids...they tug and I wind up with a patchy mess instead of a clean line. Loved the idea of the Tarte silver one, but never liked how it actually looked on me. The pink one (from today's What Are You Wearing look) is drying out, sadly. I had a hard time with it today, and it's probably nearly two year old anyways...time to let go. The double ended Tarte ones (gold tubes) are liner/colored mascara duos. The liners are actually pretty nice, but I have similar shades in other brands, and the mascaras are dried out.

The Pacifica lotion smells good in the tube, but turns to soured dirt on me. ☹️

Clearing out some lipstick samples as well. I hate digging them out of pods, and they just wind up sitting there, no matter how well intentioned I am about wanting to use them up.

Smashbox Lid Primer is nowhere near strong enough for my oily lids. IMG_20180806_005529424.jpg

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

I feel your pain on all the lip samples there. Also used the Pacifica Sugared Dreams. As far as eyeliners go nowadays, MJ is pretty nice for everyday, easy to apply and pretty forgiving if you are using the Metallics (Ro cocoa). Pencils pull, this does not. I’ve been using a gel liner with Shiseido’s eyeliner pen as well. It’s fairly inexpensive with prime and it looks like it isn’t worth its money but it works wonderfully.

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@eshoeUnidentified

I've tried a sample of the MJ liners and while I liked it ok, I wasnt impressed enough to spend that much (it was abysmal in my water line despite being HG for that purpose for many, and was my main reason for trying it). But I still have dozens of other liners I like...clearing these few out did not hurt my stash in any way 😅

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

Well, yeah, I have no hope in the waterline area, @RGbrown. That’s just a given for me. I think a wing that doesn’t look like Morse code is pretty successful.

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@eshoeUnidentified

There is hope for your waterline! Get a bottle of Inglot Duraline. It's a liquid mix-in that makes anything waterproof. I haven't been feeling like doing it lately, but mixed with any eyeshadow, it makes a killer waterline liner. It's the only thing that doesn't crumble on me within a couple of hours. The trade off of course is that it's a bit more work, but totally worth it when you want that little extra zing to a look! 👁

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

I wondered what that was for, @RGbrown. I

only guessed it was to make some sort of glued down glitter. When it seems everyone else knows what a product is meant for, it’s kind of embarrassing to ask😆

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@eshoeUnidentified

There's nothing to be embarrassed about! It's probably got a hundred and one uses that I don't know about, but I lurve it for my waterline. It's also good for thinning down dried out liquids (like the two mascaras I'm tossing lol).

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

This is so sad, but I gotta let all this go 😞

IMG_0673.JPG

The Clean rollerball has something cloudy in it, the Tarte lipglosses irritate my lips, the ABH glosses get all over my teethe, the Pixi balm gathers in my lip lines and looks gross, and all the Nars is really, really old (I never reached for it anyway). Sigh...

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@suzyo I don’t like throwing things away but it’s something that has to be done! Especially when makeup gets old or irritating! Why keep them ! They take up space and aren’t good anymore, so bye bye they go !🗑 It would be great if they were recyclable....

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@suzyo This is so sad but so understandable! I feel the same way about the formulas of those lippies as well!

Great job clearing it out! 👌

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@suzyo

Congrats on letting go! All are excellent reasons (even if it's still a sad thing to do) 😄

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

I'm so impressed by you declutterers.  I have a hard time letting things go but you guys are so good!

Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@RGbrown Great thread!  I just had so much fun going through everyone's declutter pics and comments.  I love watching YouTube videos of peoples' declutters (and sometimes get a little jealous!) but it's so satisfying to get rid of things that you've been holding onto but really don't like.

RE: Re: Show Me Your Declutters!

@CookieGirl1, I haven’t watched any YT videos about that but I know when I am deciding what to toss, it’s pretty frustrating thinking all of that product is going to waste. But then I remind myself, am I going to be a bad sister/friend and pass along stuff that I know doesn’t work/causes breakouts/smells unbearable? So that helps me to decide:) it’s just staying on task at that point😄
