I received an order today with four new lipsticks,
(Lancome L'Absolue Lacquer...I will never ever stop mentioning these every-dang-where 😄😍)
but had absolutely no room for them in my containers. While the thought "buy more containers" crossed my mind for a brief second, I quickly dismissed it as I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with too much stuff. I'd been pulling out one or two here and there, but today was the big reckoning!
This is only the stuff I pulled today; I have a small train case packed full of the other lippies (and some palettes) that I've been slowly pulling over the last couple of months. Do I still have more I could get rid of? Yeah, most likely...if I was on the fence, I erred on the side of keeping it rather than tossing. And I didn't swatch every single keeper to weed out similar shades, so there's probably still a good bit of overlap in my berry-heavy collection. But my oh my, I feel soooo much better now. I found not only things I had forgotten about, but things I really had no clue I even owned in the first place 🤣
So...do you have too much too? Ready to clear up some space and salvage a little sanity? Share your declutters with us; we wanna see it!
@makeitup305 Oh my, I just had a flashback to the past! 😍 ABH Sarafine was absolutely iconic! 💄
@QueenMarceline Rip beautiful liquid lippies lol. Great job!
@Samtian Hahhaa indeed! They should've probably gotten the boot last year but I just wasn't strong enough. 😂
I usually forget to take pictures of my declutters since I just put them in makeup bags and take them with me when I go visit family, but I recently did a big declutter of my whole makeup collection (nothing minimalist, though) and wanted to share before I pass them on or toss them out. Most of them (while on the older side) are still in really good condition so I'm hoping I can find someone who wants them.
I love the Melt stacks but never consistently used them. Same with the Boudoir Noir and Mulan palettes. The Mandalorian palette is pretty much brand new. The PMG was a purchase I still regret since it was an impulse buy. The colors were never cohesive for a full look to me. Brunet and the ND mini nice but the colors just don't suit me. Huda Sapphire is pretty but I have a lot of blues and it's not a color I reach for often.
I am a blush fiend and just need to let some older stuff go. The Dior was never the right color for me (too pink). I have plenty of highlighters and wanted to keep ones I reach for more often.
I've had these Givenchy powders forever and never got into them. I tried them again now that they're hyped up and I just came to the conclusion I'm just not a powder person. The bronzers are nice but I have plenty still and wanted to pass these on while they're still good.
Some random eyeshadow singles and a brow powder that's the wrong shade.
Some random products I've only used once. I hate the smell of the La Roche cream, hate the texture of the Ordinary moisturizer, the Jordan Samuel spray was intense, the Saltair oil is nice but I don't love the feeling of oil on my skin, and the Ouidad I don't even remember what I thought of. The Alterna I haven't tried.
@makeitup305 is that a Becca bronzer? I used to LOVE my Becca bronzer(s). *Sigh* RIP Becca.
@CookieGirl1 @heartsmyface yes, it was a bronzer but I can't remember what shade. It was really good, I agree. They had underrated blushes, too.
@CookieGirl1 they were the best!! I collected those little flying saucers like Pokémon. I don’t like my highlighter that intense anymore but I bet they’d still work great as shimmer eyeshadows.
@makeitup305 Ahhhh those Mac holiday duos! I won’t let mine go!! I WILL be panning them one day! (Unless the rerelease the exact shades cause they’re perfect!) Haha, I am sad to see them go even through the screen. Farewell beautifuls. 🥲.
@heartsmyface it took a long time for me to declutter them. The blush and highlighter shades in this are particularly beautiful, I agree. I just never used them and set them free lol
So much decluttering @makeitup305! I see some pretty cool things in there but if they don’t work there’s no point keeping them.
@JoSometimes I know, that's why it's easy to hold on to them but hopefully they make someone else happy. I had a couple of people come pick up stuff this week and I hope they enjoy them.
@makeitup305 That’s nice of you to donate/give them away instead of just tossing them out! 😊
Oh dang @makeitup305 at least you know when it's time to just let go!
@lmaster I’d have a much harder time getting rid of a Mothership or a big ND palette, even if some of them are past their prime by now. That would hurt lol
@makeitup305 great job with your decluttering! I have been doing a little bit off and on, a few products here and there, but I definitely need to do better. I just have so much, it's gotten overwhelming. I love your approach of passing on products you don't want anymore but are still good - I wish I knew some people IRL who are into makeup that I could offer things to. I just feel so guilty about throwing out anything that's still good and could still be used.
@caitbird I found a decluttering ‘cheat’ on Facebook. There are local moms for moms groups and my declutters get grabbed up very quickly when I post them by very enthusiastic moms. It makes me feel good I’m not pushing my stuff on people and that my products are going to people who can really use them.
I would never trust receiving items like that but I know what I’m offering is being properly sanitized if it needs it, before I gift it, so I have no issues with giving things out.
@caitbird My family members aren’t very into makeup so most of the stuff they have are products from my collection. I’m part of a Facebook group called “Give it to your neighbor” that’s specific to my (small) city and I’ll post pictures on there with the disclaimer that they’re used and they’re responsible for sanitizing. I won’t post cream products or glosses. I haven’t posted this yet since I want to be home in order to hand it to the person but I’ve had success other times.
@makeitup305 That’s similar to what I do. It’s so easy and quick decluttering things that way.
@makeitup305 that's a good idea, I should look and see if there's anything like that near me (there might not be, I live in the boonies lol). I should also ask my mom if she wants any of my giveaways - she's not as into makeup as I am, but she does use some.
