It's 2025 and we're on YEAR EIGHT (8) of the Pan It! Challenge 🍾
The "Rules"
To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections. For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
Getting Started (please share the following)

Thanks for posting this thread @ElleElleG! Excited to see everyone's progress throughout the year.
Amazing goals! I love the end date and amount of use that is so helpful! Looking forward to hearing your experiences with each! @itsfi ❤️
@Samtian, not gonna lie, I'm nervous about that Hourglass one - non-eyeshadow powder makeup products and I do not have the best history with the pan it! challenge. 😄
I want to compare how long it takes you to finish the Laneige lip mask. Full size would take me 11 months give or take @itsfi 😘
Absolutely @blackkitty2014! That's really good to know about your timing; thank you! I was planning on the lip sleeping mask being a multi-year project. 🤣 In the past, I've depotted product from the full size to the mini-mini's, but with this, I'll just work from the original packaging. I wanted the peach tea one but that, unsuprisingly, sold out long before I even laid eyes on this one.
@ElleElleG you picked a gorgeous palette to pan!!
My pan products to start the year off are:
@lmaster; nice mix of pan products for the year! It'll be fun to work through everything.
btw, your nails look great!
Oh my gosh @itsfi thank you, I rarely put anything on them tbh, I have gloves on constantly, hauling wood and dealing with the chickens and the barn, so that is nice to hear
Very neat to see your choices, goals, and progress! It’ll be fun to see results and how these products adapt overtime. Great job! @lmaster ❤️❤️
YES!!! Thx you for the tag @ElleElleG . I will join for sure
[Excuse the crappy lighting, our new house doesn’t have ceiling lights for the most part and it’s snowed 4+ inches in the last 36ish hours so everything is quite dim. Photos shown like 90% of the items I will be working on, but not all since some things are scattered in other rooms in my house and I didn’t feel like gathering them all.]
GOALS for body care and haircare panning and low-buy (practically no-buy) in 2025:
-Finish as much as humanly possible without driving myself crazy. These products are long-term commitments and I am buckled in with a crash helmet and fire-proof jumpsuit. I have arranged all of my BBW body creams in rough order by manufacturing date, plus discretionarily adjusted those arrangements so that I attempt to use the ones that are more yellow (aka likely contain greater percentage of vanilla ingredients) first. If you’re not aware, BBW has a pretty simple batch code system that can be found online, AND creams containing vanilla ingredients are more likely to expire first. Haircare I am working through with emphasis on the products I like least first, but I jump around my shampoos so my scalp stays happy.
-Eliminate backstock as much as possible. At any given moment in time, I do not need more than 2 things of the same category: the first being the thing that I’m actively using, and the second being ONE single backup of that category that is patiently waiting in the wings. I am one person with one face/body/scalp/set of eyeballs/etc so it still takes an enormous amount of time to finish full-size products, and I have finite storage space.
-I must be realistic about my collectors mentality that was likely fostered in my youth by my many family members who could
best be described as pack rats. I DON’T NEED EVERY SINGLE BBW BODY CREAM SCENT EVER RELEASED. I can have some variety here in the fact that I have usually 5 open at a time because they’re scattered around the house by all the sinks and my nightstand, but I genuinely should be able to have some seasonality and fun with these. Not feel like I’m slogging it out in the moisturizer trenches. Right now I have almost 50 (!!!), only a few of which are minis. I have enough moisturizer for years and I can’t rightfully enjoy potentially getting new ones while so many are sitting around and getting older.
-It takes so astronomically long to go through shampoo and conditioner on short to medium-length fine hair. I need one clarifying shampoo (honestly partner and I can share the giant Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special that I already buy for him), one moisturizing/gentle shampoo, and one conditioner. That’s it. That’s all.
-I can give myself some grace for occasional purchases, but it has to SPEAK TO MY SOUL. Like my favorite brands release something with my Zodiac sign, unicorns, etc.
GOALS for skincare panning in 2025:
-Finish as many things as possible, giving particular attention to oldest products first and those that have shorter PAOs or upcoming expiration dates.
-Same as above re: eliminating backstock.
-I tend to get a decent amount of stuff in PR/for review. So I probably don’t need to make as many purchases beyond my couple of staple products: cleansing balm, cleanser, daytime and nighttime moisturizers. If I’m not actually almost out of something yet, I don’t need to purchase new things. Because that’s how I end up with an almost-one-year-old Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask that I thought I’d open in like May 2024 and it has remained untouched in my backstock corner because I have tons of moisturizers open at the same time.
-Simplifying the routine is key. My skin is finicky and above all wants moisturizer. I’m too lazy for more than a couple of steps. Also, I don’t like wash-off masks anymore. I like to do my cleansing in the shower, get out, slap on moisturizer. Throw in some toner/essence/leave-on something or other a few times a week for actives benefits. But no wash-off masks anymore. So, I want to use things up that are getting older.
GOALS for perfume panning in 2025:
-Keep on making progress. I like smelling good and I like enjoying the most expensive products I own. It’s a consumable, not a collectible. (Repeat that mantra to myself daily).
-Once I finish a perfume, I will allow myself a purchase of something I REALLY want. All of my perfumes right now were received on PR/for review and while I looove my Valentino fragrances, there are others I want to add to my vanity that I like even more.
OVERALL, I am the type of person who needs my products out and very visible to make myself use them. Hence my Shelves Of Shame lol. If I hide things aware in drawers or closets, it’s so easy and simple to forget just how very present they are, and I’m more tempted by the new shiny things that a) I don’t need and b) I realistically don’t have space for. So, I am hopeful that watching things whittle down over the months will be more motivation in and of itself.
HONORARY MENTION to candle panning in 2025: I have so many. Way too many. No one in their right mind needs this many. It takes the fun out of picking a few for each season and enjoying the newness in the moment. Also, online blind-buying BBW candles and body creams during the frequent sales has resulted in me not being super-in-love with sooo many of them. I need to stick to what I know I like, and do less online purchasing of these kinds of items.
FINALLY, going into 2025’s Project Pan, I am always astounded by how much we all grow as beauty consumers and how beneficial this project is to curating our beauty spaces to what we really enjoy. Personally, I keep a spreadsheet of all my products so that I can remember exactly when I purchased/received them, and therefore pay attention to my habits and spread the love around. It has also helped me grow the list of ~fantasy self~ items that I keep as a reminder to myself that, next time I am attempted by the shiny new BUY NOW NOW NOW things, I probably don’t actually need it. I am happiest in my beauty space when everything is clean, simple, and spaced out. Crow Brain wants to see all my shiny treasures, because that’s how I feel about them. These things should make me feel happy and elevated, not dragged down by their bulk.
So, at the end of it all, good luck to all my fellow panners in however you are embarking on this journey!
@itsfi I do have a few BBW favs in my stash! My finish-this-year rotation includes At The Beach and Sun-Ripened Raspberry. The ones I know I won’t get to anytime soon are Cotton Candy Clouds, Sweet Whiskey, Luminous, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, and Black Cherry Merlot. There are a few more that I reeeally like but I haven’t gotten much time with them to decide if they’re a repurchase/fav or not. Moral of the story is I like smelling like food lol
