Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

ElleElleG_1-1672620471899.gif

**Join us in the 2024 thread available here: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@BluePaisley Wow great job!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Excellent work @BluePaisley! You’re soooo close with a few of these beauties. 👀 So cool; I can’t wait for your next update! 🤞🏼

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

You should feel great about your progress!! That's wonderful @BluePaisley

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Woo June update! Half way done with the year already. My eye shadow portion has slowed down a lot, it's super hot and muggy at my work. I sweat a lot so I rarely wear it during the summer. I did decide though, after doing my single shades project, to include one of my cream shadows, the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerize Cream Eyeshadow I think that's the new color name, mine is so old it's still Marie Antoinette. Like I said, it's old so time to get some use on it!

As for the lotions and SK-II Aging Skin Facial Treatment Essence with Antioxidants ...the essence is finished woo!!!! I kinda misplaced the Ulta lotion after a trip. So I just pulled a different one out today to start on. Bath and Body Secret Wonderland. I also grabbed the I Love ... Peachy Passionfruit body butter to start working on as well. That one sits at my bedside mostly unused.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Whoa! Look at UD Bones @Samtian!! 😍 You are really getting some good use out of that pretty shade. Even with hitting pause or slowing down your usage during the summer, you are going to get a lot more pan throughout the year. The SK-II is almost done, that’s awesome! 👍🏼

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you! I'm excited. I heard a spot on a different crew is opening up and it's a job that would allow me to wear my eye make up all year. I still want out completely but it's progress.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Progress is a good. Keeping my 🤞🤞 and my toes crossed for you too @Samtian ❣️

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Samtian good job!! I've lost so many products and it drives me nuts

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@lmaster haha yeah! I'm like well I'll find you again someday...

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Samtian great idea to roll in the cream shadow. I have one of these too and don’t really like it bc it always creases on me.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@BluePaisley Awe I'm sorry! I hate when things do that.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

JUNE 2023 PROJECT PAN UPDATE

Monthly Summary - The theme for June panning can be summed up as “Slow and Steady”. No pan but we keep chugging along. On pretty much every project pan product. 🙌🏼

June All Star(s) - It’s a complete surprise but this month’s all-star is the Chanel lip liner!!! It was my go-to liner for June and I ended up using about 1/4” of it this month. Yay!

Needs Some TLC - Bobbi Brown Jadestone Palette. My plan is to finish up Monroe and then make the BB Jadestone palette my eyeshadow focus, with a couple of the shades from ND Biba.

June 2023 Pan - Hair Care.jpg

JVN Complete Blowout Styling Milk 3 oz / 90 mL is the frontrunner among my hair care project pan products. I don't tend to reach for the hair dryer as much in the summer months so we shall see how much of this beauty I work my way through, but it's looking like a real possibility that I'll finish this bottle before year end. Exciting!

June 2023 Pan - Lips 2.jpg

I'm pretty pleased with myself as far as the Chanel lip liner goes. <<pats self on back>> 😆 The product in the Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes feels like it's bottomless! I mean, that's great if we're talking about bang for the buck, but it's rough when it comes to panning. 😂 We'll just keep chipping away at these lip items.

June 2023 Pan - ND 1.jpg

And finally, what most of my check-ins have been about, Natasha Denona Biba All Neutral Eyeshadow Palette Full Size Biba Neutral Eyeshadow Palette.

June 2023 Pan - ND 2.jpgHello, Monroe. I see you’re still hanging on.  Hopefully not for much longer. 😉

That's all for me, panning peeps! How're you doing with your panning projects?

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Holy cow @itsfi you've done so well

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thank you so much @lmaster. I’m really trying to use Monroe as much as I can, alone or paired with other shades. 🤞🏼

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi Ooh that sly Monroe! Really great job using everything in your project!!! I don't know how you haven't made a mess of the Westman, I would have a long time ago.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Lol @Samtian, yes that Monroe is a little stinker! Holding on until the bitter end! 😝 The lip palette!! Omg, there so much product in such a small compact. It does get messy, usually the last week of the month, I’m more careful when I use it and try to clean up any areas where one shade has migrated into another with a lip brush.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi Excellent panning progress! I haven't made much progresss with the JVN blow dry milk lately. I wonder how it works on wet hair to air dry? You have done an excellent job with your Biba palette. Do you have any upcoming look ideas for the shades you reach for less?

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Mellmars1185, thank you! That's a good question about the JVN. I haven't tried doing that - using the JVN on wet hair and then air drying. Biba is the workhorse of my project pan items - 4 years and going strong-ish (not as strong as in the first couple of years).

Great question - I haven't completely finalized in my head what I'll do, but what I'm thinking at the moment is to keep working on rustic, shine, seed, tar & sculpture, maybe coco as well. The rest I'll probably mix with some unused and neglected lip balms to create a tinted lip balm. These are on the warmer peachier side so I may add some of my red/pink eyeshadows or blush that I don't reach for to add some color to get to a shade that is better suited for me.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

IMG_2752.jpeg

Alas, my Project Pan goals have been derailed and I am once again having to reevaluate the products I am using — and will probably have to get rid of some things. Since the end of March, what started as a few very small, no-big-deal blemishes have worsened into what appears to be months-long full-face dermatitis. My skin is flat out terrible. In the last six weeks it appears to have spread down to my abdomen and parts of my legs — aka the areas where I have been using up my frankenlotion and various older body care products. I had a few older Bath & Body Works products decluttered to me by a coworker. I had thought to myself that my body skin would be fine with older products or those that contain ingredients that I know would irritate my face, but I’m afraid that may not be the case. I’m taking a break from those products (as well as anything new) and going as bare bones/minimal as possible. If my skin improves by the end of July, I’ll know the culprits. Sad, but necessary. To cheer myself up, here’s a major pan in my Essence powder foundation. This will be the third one that I’ve gone through in about 7 months and it’s a great foundation for around $6. I hope everyone else’s panning ventures are working out far better than mine!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Y’all it’s been a week since I cold-turkey quit my products and even my mom commented on my skin looking better 😅 TerraCycle about to have a big box headed to it at the end of the month if this keeps up…
