Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

ElleElleG_1-1672620471899.gif

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee  what a fun idea to do a fragrance centric pan project! I have struggled with my own fragrance goals this year, but it's been a learning experience haha. Good luck with your goals!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee Great idea to do a fragrance centered project!  I love panning the sample sizes, gives opportunity to switch it up and not get too bored!  Good luck ☘️

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Samtian we are ready to rock the last few months of the year for pans! 😸

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee Oh yes we are!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee Wooo you got this!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi  thank you as always for being so supportive ❤️ I’m looking forward to making some space for new 10mL fragrances so I can have some more variety and prettiness on my vanity without spending full-size prices lol

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Buh-bye angry skin!!! I’m so happy to hear that @KeriCherryDee. It’s work to be consistent with a skincare routine and I love, love, love hearing when folks find something that works for them.

What a fab idea to focus your panning efforts on fragrances. Your collection is gorgeous. You got this!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I've made some progress which is always better than none! Especially on items that just sit there looking pretty. I also found the lotion I had lost! Apparently someone didn't finish unpacking their suitcase last time they travelled...thanks Sephoria for helping me find it haha. Now that it is cooling off inside my work, and I changed areas, my eyeshadows finally started getting used again. Actually, looking at the photos of Bones, I've done better than I thought I had!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I have been slacking all summer on my panning project!  I finally sat down and took some quick photos last weekend to figure out where I was at on my 10 items.

Start of 2023

I had finished off the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask + Moisturizer 2.25 oz/ 64 g , the Princess perfume, and the MAC Cosmetics Lipglass .  The last two to leave the project were the MAC foundation and MAC concealer, they were duds for my skin and got decluttered in one last "back to mac".  My last update I'd introduced the Mac Lip Oil and the Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx™ Exfoliating Peel Gel and a bottle of Clinique Happy that mayyyyy have been in my stash since.. highschool?  Okay maybe not highschool, but a LONG time ago.

Current Status of the Project...

The PTR mask is being used. It's not a favourite, but I'll use it up probably in the next month or two. The May Coop Raw Sauce is meh. I have other essences that I prefer but I'm determined this will also be done in a month or so. I still have one more unopened... opps. The Vaseline lotion has had next to no use. Once winter really kicks in, I'll likely burn through it quicker. I think I can finish it before years end.The PTR mask is being used. The lip oil looks nice and does leave a bit of a stain. But I think it actually dries out my lips. Go figure. I'm going to try to use it up still, but... I'm not sold on it being done. I thought it would be a 'gimmie' item. I've used this eyeliner at least 4 days a week all year. And it's still only half done. How???Okay... these two... The Origins isn't a favourite formula, but the scent is divine and reminds me of iced tea. With winter coming up I'll be slathering on quite the layers of moisturizers so I should be able to use this up. The Smashbox is older than it should be and I'm horrible at remembering to use a primer so I feel like this will be easier for me to get on quickly in the morning. Since the Fix + is almost done I'll be able to focus on this more as a finishing spray as well. These are the two new products I'm throwing in to replace the two Mac base products I decluttered. Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@missjeanie  I see some awesome progress here, great job!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@caitbird Thanks!!  I was just poking at my panning items this morning and I'm hoping to have two of them finished next week before November!  Turns out leaving them out in a little box makes them easier to remember to use!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@missjeanie Ooh look at that pan! Congrats! Great work so far!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thanks @Samtian slow and steady!
