Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

ElleElleG_1-1672620471899.gif

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I feel what your saying, It's going by sooo fast,  I can't believe it's over 🫨

Great accomplishments this first month of the year 🥳

Your making great headway on your hair care items, way to go! Look at the debt you've made in the Moroccan oil!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@CynthieLu, the other day, I mentioned a project deadline in February and the response was “you mean next week?” That stopped me in my tracks … and also reminded me I needed to catalog my project pan! 😆

Oooh, so the Morrocanoil - the original is a bit too heavy for my hair as a hair oil so I’ve been rotating its use - as an overnight hair mask on 2nd day old hair (to be washed out the morning of the 3rd day) and as a body oil. Whoops, I should’ve have noted that in the original post. Will have to edit that. Thank you! 😃

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

That's an excellent way to use! it if it isn't a good match for your hair, your skin and nails will be happy for the extra help in the dry weather @itsfi 😁💙

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I'm on a - panning my giant samples collection - mission and here are the successes (plus a few others I finished this month 😉) hurray!

Bonus items were the #Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser 5.41 oz/ 160 mL And the Pacifica caffeine spray body mist, both I had been trying to finish for almost a year 🙃

I added more samples for this next coming month, and I'm still trying to finish off two full size mask bottles ( Elisabeth Arden Citysmart Peel off Mask and #Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow AHA Night Treatment 2.02 oz / 60 mL , A Balm Stick and Vitamin C Drops By Tula among others but I'm happy to see these successes for the month 😁

Additions for February

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@CynthieLu  wow, great job getting through all those samples! I am also hoping to finish as many of my samples & mini/trial/travel size products as I can this year - I have so many 😅

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I felt strongly my collection was getting out of hand and I needed to take action @caitbird I had to take control of the hoard 😆

It felt really good to make some headway on the sample/trial stash, thank you sweetie! 🦄

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@CynthieLu Love a good sample project!  Those Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin™ Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream 1.7 oz / 50 mL samples are some of my favourites for winter!

Nice work on those deluxe samples @CynthieLu - I spy some sizable samples in that pic!! 😲 It must feel so good to work through them!

Oooh, for your foils for February, have you checked out the challenge @ather put together? Let’s see if I can link to it via my phone … https://community.sephora.com/t5/Savvy-Shoppers/Foil-Challenge/m-p/6441922/highlight/true#M95789

If this doesn’t link up, I’ll edit through my laptop with a link when I get home tonight.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I did have a few in good sizes 💕 large testers are my absolute weakness/favorite and when it's a gwp.. agh I'm so weak 😁

@itsfi finding this pan project thread has been so great at keeping me motivated and on track with using up things that were due to be used, and seeing everyone tackling make-up, Wow! That's dedication to hit pan on any powder imo, it's awesome to see!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Awesome empties @CynthieLu -- Glow Recipe is such a nice brand, I'm fond of many of their products too, especially that cleanser. I like your sampler line-up for Feb. Lots of fun/good stuff. Hope you have another great month of panning!
