Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Welcome to the Pan It Challenge, 2022 Edition!!

I'm claiming a 2022 that's greater than our wildest imaginations, also for my longtimers this will be our FIFTH YEAR doing this challenge. Thanks to all who've stuck around and everyone who's tested themselves and jumped into the madness. You all are amazing ๐Ÿ˜˜

ElleElleG_0-1641013614552.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you arenโ€™t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, Iโ€™m certain youโ€™ll see some changes ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades youโ€™re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of othersโ€™ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Donโ€™t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  Itโ€™s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be funโ€ฆ.if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you donโ€™t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@heavyhedon how do you like the Elf essence ??

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@Emy10 it's my favorite essence ever!!!! But guess what,,, they discontinued it!!!!! ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@lmaster  Ohhhh ๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘

Thank you for letting me know ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@Emy10 you're welcome,, you may be able to find it on Amazon or eBay

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@lmaster  its ok, i didnt want to buy that much. If it was still available in store i might have tried it.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

I like it a lot, @Emy10 , it doesn't irritate me and adds a nice layer of hydration that pumps up my moisturizer, and it's good to layer on itself, too, letting it dry in between.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Late update ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Here's where I left off:

March 2022March 2022

I projected that I would likely hit pan in the second shade, the more taupe-y color, since it was my favorite shade in the palette. Well surprise, surprise .... my projection was wrong.

Here's the April Update:

April 2022April 2022

I MANAGED TO HIT PAN IN TWO SHADES!!!! Pan in the deepest shade came first and it was completely unexpected. It had a pretty sizeable dip in it but the thought of hitting pan hadn't crossed my mind. This gave me a lot of motivation for the rest of April.

Here's where we were at the beginning of May:

May 2022 - 1May 2022 - 1

May 2022 - 2May 2022 - 2

HIT MORE PAN ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ The only thing better than hitting new pan is seeing that pan grow. Still absolutely loving this palette! In past years I found myself pulling in other palettes to maintain panning motivation but I haven't needed that thus far. Goal for this month is to get more use out of the golden shade. It's my least favorite shade in the palette and I often layer it with one of the other colors to get something I like. I can't imagine hitting pan on it any time soon but hopefully I surprise myself yet again.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Oh my goodness, yes @ElleElleG - it feels so good to see more and more pan. Love seeing the fabulous progress you've been making. The shadows in this palette are disappearing before our very eyes! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Great idea to mix your least fave shade with other colors - it's one of the many tips I learned from you and has been helpful in my panning progress over the years. I have this feeling you'll be hitting pan on that gold shade before the end of the year. You've got this!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Wow! You are my idol! @ElleElleG

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@ElleElleG --sweet success! What great motivation to bust into the gold shade, too.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Wow!!! Impressive!!! @ElleElleG ๐Ÿ™Œ

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@ElleElleG Oh wow!!! Amazing!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

I missed some update but here is where I am at:

finally finished my Dior concealer (already bought a replacement itโ€™s a favorite) and added in a new one that I want to finish and not replace. Benefit boing concealer.

also finished elf wow brow.

I rolled out my No7 powder bc I used it a lot and decided I wanted to use up mini powders so I have been working on my mini Charlotte tilbury powder and itโ€™s almost done.

I also rolled in my Charlotte tilbury contour wand that I worked on in my 2021 project bc I think itโ€™s on itโ€™s way to go bad and itโ€™s starting to separate in the tube. Iโ€™m going to try and use that or my fenty cream bronzer until they are both gone. Already have a backup of the Charlotte wand!

making good and steady progress on the fenty bronzer but will go slower since Iโ€™m working on 2 cream bronzers now.

also rolling in my oldest foundation- bobby brown to finish it I gave marked where I am at.

Making good progress on my Laura Mercier cavier stick and still wanting to finish and hoping I can this year.

Making steady progress on other items. All are products I want to finish other than the Bobby brown lippie my goal is 10 uses

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley, marvelous work! Love seeing the progress you're making toward your goals - we see more and more pan every time you post! That's awesome!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Super update, @BluePaisley , and I think Wow brow is the only ELF brow product I never tried.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley Wow, good job!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley impressive!!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

I've seemed to have neglected my ABH palette this last month!! But everything else has been used at least once a week ๐Ÿ™Œ

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Sounds like a strategically planned break to me, @lmaster ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@ElleElleG yeah that's for sure! ๐Ÿ˜†

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

April Summary: We're movin' along, some items at a better clip than others, as to be expected. Sad news, I have to swap out a product (Doll Hospytal lipstick) because it seems to be the culprit for some painfully cracked lips I experienced earlier in the month.

This month's All Stars include the Farmacy Vitamin C Serum and the Innisfree green tea lip mask. I've been using both items with some consistency - every other or every 2 days and it seems to have paid off, though I didn't realize how much until I took the photos for this post.

Needs Improvement:  I am a teensy bit nervous that the Kiehl's body cream may be on the outs - it seems to have taken on a more yellow tone than I'm used to seeing in it. I was reaching for this one more in late fall / early winter, but I'm worried I don't have that much time to wait to use it up, so I'm going to make it my primary body cream for May and to keep usage to a maximum, I might just decant some into a travel bottle and keep it with me in my purse and work desk.

The Tom Ford Soleil Flawless Glow Foundation is more of a warm weather go - to for me so the next few months should really see some more movement on this one. As a short term goal, I'll try to get half way through the bottle by the end of July.

I think I'll use July as a target as well for the Guerlain lip balm and the Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer - it seems like I might be able to finish both items by that time.

Focusing on a few shades for a month (i.e., top row for April) seemed to work nicely for me with the Natasha Denona Biba Eye Shadow Palette. Hard to tell with the photo, but the shades prairie and coco saw a lot more use and the indentations from where I dip my brushes are beginning to be more noticeable. For May, I'll focus on the last 4 shadows in the first two rows of the palette. And, of course, Tusk, as a base.

I swapped out the Doll Hospytal lipstick about mid-month and replaced it with the Westman Atelier Les Nudes Lip Suede Palette. The goal for this palette is to hit pan on at least one color by the end of the year. To get a jump start on this one, I'll plan to reach for it at least two times per week in May.

Skincare
Spoiler
I talked about most of the skincare products in the summary section. Based on the looks of it, I'm targeting end of summer for working through the Farmacy Vitamin C serum, and end of year for the innisfree green tea lip sleeping mask - I could provably get through the innisfree more quickly if I just used it exclusively, but I enjoy using my other lip balms as well. so usage on this one may go up and down depending on the month.

belif eye cream is a work in progress and I keep chugging away. My short-term goal for this one is to get to a place with it where I can start marking the frosted blue portion of the jar, and I'll aim to do that by the 4th of July weekend.
