Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Welcome to the Pan It Challenge, 2022 Edition!!

I'm claiming a 2022 that's greater than our wildest imaginations, also for my longtimers this will be our FIFTH YEAR doing this challenge. Thanks to all who've stuck around and everyone who's tested themselves and jumped into the madness. You all are amazing 😘

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@heartsmyface Oh I would have loved another! I think I’ll finish it eventually bc I love it so much. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. The Becca is nice too I just enjoy the shade of the PV one better. Yes the elf primer is nice I think it does blur out my pores and I like the putty texture.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley   Oh no it’s glorious when you find the perfect shade of anything! It’s so wincingly frustrating cause it was less than a week ago, but then again, highlighters do last FOREVER so there’s plenty of time to find a new love.  (Mine is the MJ O!mega Glaze in Worth the Wait which is also discontinued)
I was quite surprised I loved the ELF so much cause it’s only a few dollars and holds its own against high end brands.  I enjoy it for reducing shine if my highlight has found itself too low on my cheeks or for a quick no makeup touch up.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Becca Opal is so pretty. Look at all that pan!!! Great update @BluePaisley, you're killing it. It's no mean feat to hit pan on a cream bronzer, but a highlighter? Oh yeah, that is dedication.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@heavyhedon I absolutely love pretty vulgar in glimmers of BS. My absolute fav highlight, but you can’t get it now so I need to slow my use now that I have pan! I’m hoping I enjoy using my Becca one like I did this pretty vulgar highlight. I think hitting pan on this will be a challenge since it has less use.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley, I was so excited when I saw your pic of that PV highlighter! Yaaay, pan!! And great work all around, you’re making amazing progress. 😍

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you! I was so excited I go a little ham with this highlight Bc I love it soooo much haha.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

I think it's awesome that you go a little ham with that beauty @BluePaisley! If you love it, why not?! It must impart such a beautiful glow! 😍

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley Ooh great work!!! A highlighter pan wow ❤️

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@Samtian Thank you so much! 🙂 I was so happy to see pan!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley Some really great progress there 🙂 I seem to never be able to hit pan on my BECCA highlighters, they give such great pay off that I barely need any product.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@QueenMarceline Yes, it will be hard to pan a Becca highlighter for sure but even if pan doesn’t come this year on the Becca at least it will be getting a lot more use in a project than it normally does! So I’m excited to see what I can do with it.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@QueenMarceline Me too, and I have so many. IDK what I was thinking. I believe the year I bought all those LightChasers, I must have been soothing my soul with highlighter therapy sessions!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@heavyhedon Hahah you're totally right... I also have quite a few BECCA saucers so many we went through that highlighter retail session together. @BluePaisley I'm rooting for you, I'm sure it will get some very good use and we will see pan before no time 🙂

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

My panning efforts in January had its ups and downs. I touched each of the products in my Project Pan at least once last month and most, but definitely not all, saw regular or semi-regular use. Here are the products for this month's check-in:
1.31.2022 Progress - All.jpg

Every time I use the Touch In Sol No Poreblem Primer, I'm reminded why I like it so much, and hopefully this year, that will mean I reach for it more than I have in the past. 🤞 This really does blur imperfections, making my skin look smooth and pores minimized. I tend to use this primer when I wear something heavier than a tinted moisturizer and that didn't happen very often in January, so the progress isn't great, but there is progress.

Sadly, I cannot say the same for the belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb. I reached for this item twice in January - once on the first day of the year and then again the day I took this update photo. Whoops. ☹️ You wouldn't know it based on my January usage, but I actually do like this eye cream - this full size was purchased after finishing a travel size. The good news is that it shouldn't  be too hard to get more use from this product next month. 😆 Do better, Fi!

The Natasha Denona Biba Eyeshadow Palette was been the main or only eyeshadow in my makeup collection that I've used for the last 2 years of project pan. This year, I plan to use Biba again as a project pan product, but unlike in years past, will be including other shadows in my collection a lot more, so I think my progress will slow down a bit from what it has been over the past couple of years. My 2022 goals for this palette is to fully pan Tusk as well as 2 of the 3 sparkly shadows, and to hit pan on one of the other shadows in the palette. With one full month behind us this year, progress on Tusk (last row, last shadow) is good; we're moving along with the sparkly shadows (Rustic - first row, first shadow); Shine (first row, last shadow) and Monroe (second row, second shadow); and, as for that last goal to pan one other shadow, we're off to a slow start, but let's just say that it's a work in progress. 😂

So, you can probably see that the black eyeshadow (last row, 4th shadow) came to an unfortunate demise. I have no idea how that happened. 😮 I had not used the palette for a few days and when I went to open it for a photo, I noticed that the black shadow is gone. I have no recollection what I did with it.

Edit / Update: Well, now, I think I may have an idea what happened. I went to change my bed sheets earlier today and noticed a small pile of a smooshed / smeared black substance. I didn't know what it was until I was tidying up and reorganizing some of the makeup on my table - it's the Spot eyeshadow. How it dislodged itself from the pan and ended up on my bed sheets, I don't know (it's slightly driving me nuts not being able to figure it out). Ugh. What I think I will do is to take the Natasha Denona eyeshadow that was part of a recent gwp promo (it's a color from her Glam palette) and sub that one into the Biba palette in the Spot space.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Progress is progress, @itsfi!! Nicely done!!

Oh no about that shadow!! 😕 So weird, but glad you were able to get a replacement option!!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Thank you @haleyvvvv! 😊 Project Pan gives me something to focus on and a challenge too!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@itsfi  why have I never tried that primer?  It’s PINK and I am a magpie for pink primers.

And oh noooo!!!  Black shadow in the sheets!!!  😖😖😖.

That’s a good idea with the single,  that space would bother me sooo much.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@heartsmyface, the pink is definitely a draw of the primer; it doesn't hurt at all that it really does blur my pores! 😍

They also have a priming water and a sherbet primer that looks very interesting ... says the one whose no-buy list includes primers. 😂

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@itsfi Glad you rediscovered your love for the primer. Lol about the shadow and finding where it was... sorry you lost the shadow though!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley, at this point I’ve almost convinced myself that I did something stupid while not fully awake. 🤪 Everytime I look at it, I just think “what did you do, Fi?” Lol.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@itsfi Great job with that palette and lol to that spot shade mishap. 😂That counts as a project pan in my book. haha!
