Welcome to the 2021 Pan It Challenge !!

HUGE round of applause for the 2020 Panners 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Despite an incredibly hectic year I couldn't be more proud of each and every one of you who spent even a second thinking about your projects.  It was a huge inspiration for me and I'm sure others as well.  Cannot wait to see your new projects and whatever this year has in store for us!

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

• Which item(s) you would like to work on
• How long you will work on said item
• Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
• Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

• share what item(s) you are working on,
• provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
• ask questions,
• encourage others,
• motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

• Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
• If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
• Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc. 
• Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
• Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
• Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
• Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
• Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

• Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.) 
• Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
• Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
• Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
• Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

@BluePaisley -- I love all the soft creamy matte shades, but the black is also lots of fun and the shimmers are gorgeous.

@heavyhedon Every time I see you post this palette it makes me wish I'd picked one up!  Maybe instead of these companies coming up with so many new palettes all the time they could re-release some old ones.

Oh my gosh, me too, re-releases would be wonderful. @greeneyedgirl107 . I am so gutted I didn't get the big version of this palette when it was out-- saved up and then it was too late!!!

@heavyhedon, I see … paaaaaan!! 😍 That’s impressive! The TF palette has some very pretty shadows. Nice work on meeting your lippie goals. It’s such a great feeling!

@itsfi - apparently, using a brush instead of fingers in those shadows is key to hitting pan, haha.

HI GUYS!! So glad to see that you all have continued your panning projects and supporting one another 💙💙

Here’s a long overdue update: My 2020 project pan was the ABH x Mario palette (by far the best palette ABH has EVER created!). I held on to that palette for ages, even extending my 2020 project into this year to squeeze out more use. I officially let it go a few months back and started to work on the ABH Modern Renaissance. 

(By this point these shades were a pain to use. The shadows did not last on their own and instead of making myself miserable I decided to end it here. Cannot believe this is no longer in my collection but I’m glad I enjoyed it before it completely deteriorated.)

 

Guess who forgot to take photos between May and October 🙋🏾‍♀️🙃.

At this point I do not have any specific goals for this palette. Modern Renaissance paled in comparison to the Mario palette for me, which I purchased at the same time. Love Letter and Venetian Red look very similar on the eye and regardless of the shades I use I tend to end up with the same look. I will continue to use for the rest of 2021 but then this too will be leaving my collection.

@ElleElleG Holy moly!!! Bye bye Mario :'( I need to use mine but I don't want to lol. It's precious. The bottom first two in MR did you de-pan them or use them up?!

LOL it was too good not to use @Samtian ! Those were completely used up. I didn’t have many favorites within MR but those were two I enjoyed from beginning to end

@ElleElleG Your panning progress always amazes me. Echoing @greeneyedgirl107 , I can’t believe I missed out on such a good palette! The rational side of my brain probably took over at the time and said I had enough ABH palettes 🤪

Ha! I got to that point after buying these two @Guessgal . The only other ABH palette I picked up was the Jackie Aina  and I got that months after the release when it was half off. I built a good collection of their singles over a couple of their Black Friday sales but I’ve also stopped by those 🤷🏽‍♀️

@ElleElleG Ooo I built a good collection of their products too! Except mine were in the lip department 🙈 I ended up buying so many of the ABH liquid lipsticks when they did BOGO deals on their site that I think I’ve run out of ones to buy by now 🤣

Oh, it's sort of heartbreaking when a great product isn't available anymore. It looks like you got a lot of use out of the Mario*ABH palette though!! And are making good progress on the Modern Renaissance. Nicely done, @ElleElleG!!
