Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

Welcome to the 2021 Pan It Challenge !!

HUGE round of applause for the 2020 Panners ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ Despite an incredibly hectic year I couldn't be more proud of each and every one of you who spent even a second thinking about your projects.  It was a huge inspiration for me and I'm sure others as well.  Cannot wait to see your new projects and whatever this year has in store for us!

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you arenโ€™t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, Iโ€™m certain youโ€™ll see some changes ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades youโ€™re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of othersโ€™ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Donโ€™t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  Itโ€™s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be funโ€ฆ.if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you donโ€™t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@mishanyc thank you! I love this blush in mood exposure! I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll hit pan but Iโ€™m going to try! ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@BluePaisley Mood Exposure is my favorite blush of all time. ๐Ÿ˜Š Enjoy getting good use out of it.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@BluePaisley, yaaaay for meeting two more goals! Congrats! ๐Ÿ™Œ So awesome that you hit pan on the Bobbi Brown concealer; must feel great!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@itsfi Thank you so much!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

Five by Fall! Update no. 1:

Hard to use makeup when it's too hot to wear it, but I have finally made my goal of 5 uses by Fall on one item: Avon GlazeWear Summer Sheers lipgloss in Sheer Royalty. Actually used it 7 times before I got to post, so hey, good.

This is where I was:five by fall 1 013.JPG and this is where I am: 5byfallupdate1 003.JPG so LOL, not a lot of difference to see, but that's gloss for you. I'm close on a couple of other items.

*Note-- by use, should have said earlier, I mean use during one day, however many times, unless I wipe off & re-apply my makeup a second time and choose the same item as earlier. Not likely to happen, but...

Anyway, to finish, since this is a Rolling Pan for me, I'm introducing another lipgloss to use five times before Fall; a Sephora Collection gloss balm, that shade isn't on the tube so I don't even know which shade it is! It's pretty buy I've used it maybe 3 times since purchase:

Shade xShade x

That's it, thanks for reading, should have a new update soon!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

Nice job, @heavyhedon!!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

Nice work @heavyhedon! Agree with you - lip gloss is a hard one to work your way through. Wonderful that you not only met your goal before the fall, you reached for it more than you even set out to do. ๐Ÿ‘Š

Tarte Rainforest sm.jpg

Year ago I had lost this, and found it again last year. Forgot about it again until it came up for my eye shadow challenge. So I'm going to work on panning it. At least the 2nd shade for now. I use a light brush so it's going to take a long time, but it's old and I really loved this one. It'll take a while to see any progress so for now I'll add it in quarterly with my mist and go from there. This is the Tarte Rainforest After Dark.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

Nice addition to your project pan, @Samtian!! You got this!!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@haleyvvvv Thank you!!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

This is a pretty palette @Samtian! ๐Ÿ˜ Looking forward to seeing your progress as you work your way to hitting pan on this beauty! You got this!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@itsfi Thank you! It's a little hard on some of the shades but I'll do my best!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@Samtian - I used to wear this palette a lot.  I'm not sure if I still have it though.  Think I'll go look!  ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@Titian06 Did you find it!? Haha I just barely saw this.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@Samtian - No, I must have tossed it or what was left of it.  I did a major clean out a few years ago.  Thanks for asking!  ๐Ÿ’‹

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@Titian06 Sounds like it was a good thing to do though!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

Ah, this is where that soft sheeny eye look came from @Samtian , very cool.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@heavyhedon Yep! Thank you!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge ๐Ÿ†

@Samtian Pretty palette!

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚Update: 5 before fall (as of 8.22.2021) ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚
5 before fall - 8.22.2021.jpg

It seems I overestimated how well I'd work through the products I chose for my 5 before fall pan project. For the most part, at least - by the looks of it, Ellis Brooklyn BEE Eau de Parfum is the odds-on favorite to be used up by this time next month. ๐Ÿ™Œ It was also the dark horse choice as I wasn't sure how I felt about it at the time I started @heavyhedon's great seasonal pan project. This fragrance works best on me when I'm not wearing any competing scents - fragrance free shower gel, lotion, etc.  My nose picks up a warm, not-too-sweet honey and light, creamy vanilla scent with a tinge of something ever so slightly smoky. The initial burst is a bit sharp for my taste but it thankfully fades away fairly quickly. @BluePaisley

Though I won't get through the other 4 items before fall, continued progress looks promising as I have enjoyed incorporating these goodies in my routines. I've been using the I'm From Rice Toner at least once every day, and if I can keep that up, I'll probably be able to get through this bottle by the end of October.

We may see more progress on the Illume Eternal Nomad Thai Lily Body Butter next month; I didn't reach for it nearly as often as I intended but that will change going forward.

I ended up getting sidetracked with other base products so the Missha Misa Cho Bo Yang BB Cream No. 23 didn't get as much attention as it normally would have received so I didn't expect too much movement on this one.

Guerlain KissKiss Roselip Tinted Lip Balm - Pink Me Up, on the other hand, was a bit of a surprise - I thought I would have made better progress. Hmmm.... C'est la vie. Will continue to chip away at it.

One month down, one more to go before fall. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚
